Everything Good except the grass part.
Everything was fine, clubhouse, carts, scorecard, neighborhood, course design.... Except the actual grass, the most important part of golf, was horrible for a private club. The fairway was like playing from somebody’s abandoned backyard, couldn’t even make a divot for how thin the grass was and how hard the ground was. Bunkers were like playing on the surface of Mars. Greens were like a patchwork quilt made of Velcro and dirt.
Great
Loved this course. Great layout and outstanding service. The also have motorcycle golf carts.
Timber
The conditions on this course have come a long way. The greens are what I’ve noticed the most improvement, just walking on them has a completely different feel. Fairways cut down low all the way around make even an off T shot recoverable. Staff in the club house super welcoming. I’ll play a lot here this summer.
Great for the money
The greens weren’t in the best shape and were relatively slow but they were just aerated so that could’ve attributed to part of the problem. The course is played out nice and was a good value for the money.
Fun course!
Fun course to play. Great atmosphere and nice place to come with friends. Super accommodating- even for a beginner!
Needs Work
Greens not good. Many dead spots etc. Course needs a lot of grooming and was pretty wet everywhere.
Nice course
First time playing this course due to limited options with the virus going on. This course played great, pace of play worked well. Only thing that didn’t work was the greens needed some work.
Will give this course another try once the virus restrictions are gone and it warms up.
Great Course and Staff
The course is in great shape and the greens have improved 10 fold. True firm greens. The staff is very friendly and very helpful. I have been playing this course lately and it has quickly become one of my favorites.
My only complaint is they do not have Don Julio 1942 Tequilla.
Still a swamp
I really want to like this course; friendly staff, good location, reasonable rates. But this course is just plain awful after a moderate rain or extended wet weather; it literally is a swamp.
In spite of several CPO signs, people drive carts through standing water and low areas without thinking twice. Apparently there is no enforcement of the CPO policy since I’ve never seen a marshall making the rounds.
Instead of pushing new outdoor decks and Finn carts, put some investment into drainage.
Excellent place
So friendly. Brand new carts. Finn Cycles are epic. Clean and fun. A must see
Amazing!
This course has improve a bunch since i’ve last been here! The greens are beginning to look a lot better and over all the course look good. I love the updates in the clubhouse and the friendly employees. Would recommend.
Wonderful day of Golf
I thoroughly my experience at Timber Truss like I always do! Jon and his staff were professional as usually and took necessary precautions to keep everyone safe and healthy during this pandemic. Great place to escape the indoors and play 18 holes!!
HM
I enjoyed playing this course. It was very muddy in areas but I think once it has an opportunity to dry it will be a very good course.
Great staff and had a fun ride on a scooter that holds the golf bag.
Jon and his staff are very helpful and friendly. I rode the course on one of the motorized scooters (can’t recall the name of it) and had a blast. I had never seen these before but it made the course that much more enjoyable. I went with a girlfriend but would like to go back for a couple’s scramble I’ve heard about.
My favorite public course in the Memphis area
This is one of my favorite public courses in the Memphis area. New ownership is investing considerable effort in not only improving course conditions, but making the overall experience better than it's ever been. The owner and new ground superintendent are working hard on the greens after the course was allowed to decline under previous ownership, but I expect to see good results there soon. The addition of the Finn cycles as an alternative to carts adds a whole other element to the experience. Can't do that anywhere else in Memphis. Beyond that, it's a fun course and the people who work there are friendly and all about creating a unique, relaxing, not particularly stuffy golf experience. I see the complaints from last season about course conditions, but anyone who is the least bit fair minded understands it takes a little time to put your stamp on a golf course. Let's see what this course is looking like after a little more time under new management and warmer weather. Also, the chicken salad sandwich at the clubhouse is memorable.
