Course in horrible conditions compared to years past
I've played locust many times due to the proximity to my house. The course conditions have steadily worsened over the years. Literally every green is full of fungus and dead lumpy spots where there is zero grass. Fully half of the fairways are bare dirt with some weed sprouts here and there, the teeboxes are a ridiculous mess of weeds and bare dirt.
Really bad how far the place has fallen. It looks like blue ridge shadows now. Definitely not worth $55, or even $15 for that matter.
If you're considering it, I'd pass and look for another place until they get around to fixing the issues this place has.
Getting Better
Played Sunday course has rebounded from a Mid Summer irrigation issue. Greens rolled true in better spots. Staff was awesome. Course is putting in lots of work to fix issues. Fairways spotty but very playable.
Locust Hill Back Nine
The Course only had the back nine holes open on the day that we played as they were aerating the front nine holes.
Some of the tee boxes are lacking grass. There are definitely spots on each of the greens were grass is missing. Also the fairways are spotty with grass.
Nice course
Nice people, good value for the money. Lots of weeds but weather has not cooperated. Greens fast but in okay condition. I would go back and hope to play s not better
Recommend course.
Poor condition
If you look in the dictionary under cow pasture this course would probably be the picture they give you. Greens fairways and tea boxes are all in dire need of repair They do not have any water coolers on the course anywhere. The only thing they have going for them is they are the only course in 20 mile radius The locals don’t have much of a choice
Everything was green but some parts of the course were in rough shape. Can't beat it though for a 30 dollar golf now round on a Saturday morning.
spiraling down
I moved to this area 8 years ago and was very much impressed by this course when first played, hadn't been back for a while and played recently. What a shame. Tee boxes are in horrible condition, fairways are at least half dead, greens have so many ball marks you can hardly put without hitting a bump. The fringes have been taken over by weed (crab-like) grass.. I'm no expert but I think this can be blamed on the weather only to a certain degree as all courses in this area are struggling but this just seems to be poor management of the course. The Eastern Panhandle of WV is starving for a decent public golf course.....help!!!!
Play Elsewhere
Tee boxes, fairways, greens all in poor condition and not because of summer weather. Course is not being maintained and it shows it. Played the course 4 yrs ago and enjoyed it, but will not be going back anytime soon. Many other courses in the area in far better shape and a better use of your golfing $$$.
Grabgrass
Course in very poor condition, played this course when it first opened and was considered top in the area. Now not so much, what a shame.
Horrible Everything
Course was much too expensive for the abysmal quality. Have played much better courses for less than half of the price. Greens were in terrible condition, tee boxes had few places that weren’t torn up, and staff was rude. Will never be returning and I sincerely hope nobody else does.
HUGE disappointment!
I’m glad this was a “hot deal” and I only paid $20 for 18 holes. Poor upkeep on the tee box and greens, very patchy and rough. Sand traps were actually dirt and rock traps. Walked into one and my shoes didn’t even leave tracks. Gentleman at the counter when we checked in was far from friendly. He literally tossed the cart key on the counter to my husband. Weeds along the fairways were way too high. I will not be returning, even for $20.
Less than stellar
Started off poorly with the older guy working the pro shop tossing the cart keys on the counter after verifying my reservation. Young lady working in the snack bar is the only reason it was remotely pleasant. Each tee was good but almost every green was burnt to a crisp. Very little difference between the first and second ruff and the bunkers were not sand but instead topsoil with huge rocks mixed in. Water hazards were dirty without filtration which totally took away from why they were there. Paid 19 with tax but definitely would not pay the club price to play. I can mark this course on the “do not return list”
This place has gone downhill
I use to enjoy playing this course over the years but sadly it appears they have completely lost it. This use to be a great “bang for your buck” course. I’ve watch this course drastically decline over the last 3 years. The fairways are patchy, the greens have a ton of dead spots, and anywhere else is weeds. Telling customers the reason is because we had a lot of rain or not enough is not a valid excuse. Other golf courses deal with the same weather and they look much better than Locust Hill.
First time at Locust
My husband and I played this course on Saturday morning. It was just ok. Mike was very friendly and helpful. However, the play was very slow.
There wasn't a course ranger to keep people playing along.
It definitely isn't a course for women. There were a lot of very difficult holes, even from RED.
We won''t be going back
We are sorry your experience here was not very good. We too are not happy with the way the golf course looks and have been very busy over the last few weeks working on it. We are recovering from a major irrigation issue back in July 2019. We have completely over seeded the greens and are working on the fairways now. Give us a few more weeks and try us again you will see vast improvement.
