Fast greens and tight fairways
Don't spray into the rough or you'll be in for a tough day. Keep it in the fairway and away from the trees. Back 9 is much more challenging than the front. Lots of water in play. Lots of undulation. Fun course. I'd play it again
Fun course, nice challenge and slow play
There are a lot of fun, challenging holes to be had here. The course is always in very good shape and the staff is friendly. The problem is slow play the last few times I've been there. Even with a handful of rangers buzzing around the course moving people along, it's still a 5 hour round on the weekends. As long as you get your mind set to be out there that long, I can recommend it.
Friendly atmosphere
Staff extremely friendly and accomodating. Several times the rangers came around to make sure our round was moving smoothly enough. Even though there might have only been a 5 min wait here and there they jumped to make sure things moved more quickly after that. The course's layout is very good, each hole much different than the last. Distances are good, not short and easy, but not too long and tough. Price was maybe a little high for the area but with well maintained greens and fairways i cannot complain. I would play here again
Locusdt hill is a great little course with enough challenge to make it fun but not so much it is too diffacult.
Love playing at loucst hill they consistintly have some of the fastes smothest running greens i have ever played on. Add to that the prounced hills in the greens and putting can be a hole lot of fun there. The course is mostly flat making it fair for the higher handicapped golfer but there is plenty of water and ob to so hit it straight. I really like playing here because you dont need to particulary long to shoot well but the course does reward those who keep it in and play and have a good short game.
Greeat value for the money and never really that crowded either. It's WV little secret. shhhh dont tell anyone!
Out of shape!
I played this course 10 years ago it was a gem. I loved the greens they are hard and fast. The fairways are in need of some love. I played on a Monday which was serior day. After 3.5 hours for 9 holes I ask for a rain check for the other nine. Staff was glad to accommodate us. So I will give it another shot later in May to see the condition.
Really good fun course and challenging.
Course is returning from normal winter dormate. Fairways were in really good shape. Greens were really fast and challenging, and will be in great shape giving another week to ten days.
Great value
Locus Hill is a great value. You get all the amenities of more expensive course including great fairways and shot-making challenges. It's a fun place to play!!
Nice course, very pleasant environment
Frequent elevation changes, interesting water features, and decent overall design.
Nice track with plenty of character and uniqueness in each hole.
This course tests golfers of all levels. I like courses where you can hit driver on almost all holes and this is the case for Locust Hill. You should probably hit fairway woods or hybrids off of some teeboxes but are rewarded for longer accurate drives. The greens are challenging but fair and rarely offer a flat putt. Three footers demand attention. This course is well maintained.
Pretty good shape for January play.
Overall the course was in good shape for the winter. It was difficult at times to separate the fairways from the rough from the tee boxes. The greens had some season wear, but putts rolled smooth for the most part. Lots of straight away holes, had a few dog legs. Hidden hazards from some tee boxes made it a little frustrating for a first time player. It would have been nice if the score sheet had some hole pictures.
Incredible conditions for November in WV. 15-18 best closing holes around.
60 degrees and sunny on Thanksgiving day and only $25 with a cart, best rate in town when caught on Golf now.
every hole is different
ONE OF MY FAVORITE COURSES TRAVEL 1 1/2 HOURS TO PLAY . PLAY IT ABOUT TEN TIMES AYEAR.
your course rating / click and drag feature doesn't work properly
The course is well maintained; the greens are in excellant shape, as good or better than the much more expensive courses nearby in MD & VA (eg Musket Ridge, Raspberry Falls)
Beautiful layout, too many houses, VERY local clientele
The course is beautiful and requires a wide variety of shots. Not an especially difficult course in terms of tightness or distance, but enough varied terrain and design to be interesting. Large, undulating, and FAST greens - fair and fast. There was no one there but local people who knew each other, and I waited quite a while to check in while the pro and one of these locals talked about drivers. Could have shown a new customer more consideration - made me feel like an unwelcomed visitor, but you know how pros are everywhere, especially when they may be selling a $400 driver.
best greens for the money
decent fairways and tee boxes but what sets this course apart is the larger than average greens that put very nicely.
Good Greens
This course is somewhat challenging. All the holes are different, so you won't get bored. The greens are undulated, smooth and fast. The course has always been in good shape every time I've played it; any time of the year.
Wonderful Course
I may be a little biased, seeing as this is the only course i play. Aside from 2 or 3 rounds at most, once a week golfer. However I do like to take advantage of savings just like the next guy. Always a great course in immaculate conditions, hats of to grounds crew!!!!!
very well maintained and challenging course.
This course is very fun and challenging to play. The last four holes involved water hazards which makes it interesting when you and your friends are coming down to the finish. These holes can change your scores drastically. Overall the course is always in excellent shape.
friendly territory
From VA it's a nice drive to this course in WVA. I've played the course a few times over a span of 20 yrs. and always found it be challenging and in very good shape. Some very interesting holes like the long, down hill, dog leg left that makes you want to go right back and replay the hole if you bogey it.
Absolutely BEAUTIFUL greens!
Great booking. Second time my wife and I have played here. Staff super friendly, course in great shape, challenging, beautiful scenery for miles on some holes, and a great buy for what you get. We played at 97 degrees, w/ heat index 103, and still loved it!
