interesting tee boxes
I'd give it 3.5 if I could. We played the back tee's and some tee boxes were in strange places. On hole 10 you have to play a big cut off the tee to avoid a tree directly in front of you. Overall course is in decent shape and greens are fine. Worth the price.
Too Much Maintenance
The overall experience wasn’t too bad except for the fact that there was too many holes with green maintenance or overall course maintenance occurring causing a distraction and making it hard to focus on hitting a good shot and having a good round. It doesn’t seem right to have limited access to the course when you’ve paid for a full experience. There shouldn’t be anyone playing if there’s maintenance occurring. It was not a first class experience.
Horrible staff especially the starter
The starter is one of the rudest people you will ever speak to in your life I've talked to multiple people about this and they said the same thing, The guy came up on me like I owed him money on the street like it was a drug deal I was almost scared and in shock like what's happening He then demanded a receipt which I gave him He then claimed I didn't pay for golf even though I was walking out of the pro shop as this was happening so obviously I just paid He then came into the pro shop with me to try to claim that it said I didn't pay they told him yes he did pay a chills right on there he paid online He then said oh whatever and I said You know what man I've heard this about you a lot of people say that coming here is a bad idea cuz you're such an I won't say the word and he said well that's me not the course Then I play the course the greens are in the worst conditions I've ever seen there is hardest cement you can hit a wedge from two yards away and it'll bounce like you literally landed on a cart path there's no way to set anything down and besides that they're raggedy somehow even though they are fast The course layout is horrible it's like a public community course layout would be where they just threw a bunch of random dead straight holes and then a couple stupid dog legs that are unreachable for no reason together like they had land to make a golf course and decide to for no reason, it we'll just put the holes here I would never recommend playing here it's nowhere near worth the money I wouldn't play here for $10 ever again and neither will anybody that I know
Solid
A good example of old fashioned golf courses.A lot of fun to play with very few surprises.Greens are big and tricky to read.Staff are very friendly.Playable for good players and better as tee shots need to be quite accurate
Bright spot of rainy day
The course shined on this rainy day. Only thing that should have better was pace of play. Groups combined themselves into a sixsome and sevensome and the group members refused to listen to the course marshal.
A pretty decent option in the Penfield area
My only real complaint with Eagle Vale is the poorly designed 11th hole. The tee shot is simply too tight with a hazard all the way down the left side of a dogleg left hole and the forced carry over a pond in front of the tee box that is a little too long to hit something less than 3-wood. There is simply no bailout, and double bogey or worse is way too common.
It's not the only hole where the target area off the tee is way too cramped, but at least you aren't facing forced carries. The fairways are pinched in quite a bit by encroaching houses on several tee shots.
The greens are usually very quick but without a lot of slope or undulations, so they're a bit more boring than a lot of courses in the area. But the conditioning is very good. The fairways are pretty pristine.
All in all, a good challenging course with a lot of nice holes.
Overrated and Underkept
Every time I place this course I get more and more disappointed. Conditions have drastically gone down hill over the past few years. They’re now at the point where the county courses have better tee boxes and greens. The greens were the worst greens I have rolled on in years. Dead spots everywhere, look like they’ve not been rolled in weeks. No one repairing pitch marks that look days old. Looks like the mow before repairing anything on the greens too because there are tearouts everywhere. Every put could turn into a midterm route if you didn’t spend a good deal of time trying to repair the many spots in your line that would cause a putt to go array. I can’t complain too much about the price because I got a great golf now deal, but how this course is able to charge $60 for a round on the regular is beyond me. Even with the golf now deal it was not worth the 4.5 hours to play. There are courses in every direction Shadow Lake being one of them that bring in less money but the course is always in substantially better place. Something is going on at Eaglevale though and the effort is just not there to keep the course up to the level they claim it to be. Would not recommend it. A real shame too because I’ve had a lot of fun at this track in the past.
Course is in great shape
I haven’t played Eagle Vale in probably 20 years and didn’t remember a lot of the course. Some trees have grown up a bit but the course was in great shape. The only comment that I will make is that a few tees (par 3s) are “crowned” making it difficult to find a level lie. We played later in the day and even after all of the foot traffic the greens were still rolling nicely. Several of the greens had a lot of ball marks so there are a lot of lazy golfers not taking care of things. I repaired many but on some holes you couldn’t spend that much time.
