San Pedro Golf Course
About
San Pedro Golf Course is an 18 - hole championship facility located on the banks of the San Pedro River. The golf course winds through the mesquite and along the banks of the San Pedro on the front nine. The back nine travels through four canyon like settings and finishes up with the 457-yard par four split fairway eighteenth hole. The golf course stretches out to 7187 yards from the tips and there are five sets of tees to accommodate golfers of all skill levels.
The surrounding vistas at San Pedro are unmatched by any other golf club in Southeastern Arizona. From various points on the course, the San Pedro River Basin can be seen and this Mark Rathert design stretches along those river banks to the natural canyon like settings with the Dragoon mountain range in the background. The elevation changes and cool crisp air provide a setting that will bring you back for the challenge.
The bentgrass greens will provide slick playing surfaces with some undulations to test your stroke. The key to play on hole # 2 - is to stay clear from the left side, as the San Pedro comes into play early in your round. Your second shot to this 457-yard par four will test your long iron game! The fifth creates a great approach to the green on this par five. The par four sixth requires precision off the tee, as there are two bunkers along the right side with a narrow approach to the green. The seventh is a cute par three that is followed up with a par four and the 558 yard par five ninth that requires two well placed shots as the right hand side is guarded by a pond as you approach the green. The left side approach is definitely your safety valve.
The back nine opens up with a straight away 400 yard par four followed by a 197 par three with a very tricky undulated green that slopes from left to right. Walk away with a three here and be happy. Holes 12 - 16 will offer you both scenery & challenges coupled with a great test of golf. The twelfth is as good a par four that exists. The tee shot leads you into a narrow area that favors the left side, as this is a slight dogleg right. The second shot will let you know if you can thread the needle as the approach is a gem. Once on this bowl shaped green area you will look back and see the beauty that Mark Rathert carved here. The ride to the thirteenth tee brings you to the highest elevation on the course, where the San Pedro River Valley surrounds you - encased by three mountain ranges including Cochises' Stronghold - where that once heralded Indian and his tribe staked their claim. The 605 yard thirteenth will require position to the right center on both your drive and second shot, as you approach to this green. The fourteenth resembles hole # 12 but is a tad longer. The fifteenth hole is a scenic par three with a drop of 50 feet from teeing area to green. The sixteenth and seventeenth give you a slight breather as you approach the finest finishing hole in Southeastern Arizona - the par four split fairway 457 yard eighteenth hole. Water comes into play off the tee as well as on the second shot to this green that is also guarded by a bunker as you approach the apron.
San Pedro is tough but fair with exceptional playing surfaces and a range of tees (5) that will test golfers of all levels. You won't tire at San Pedro - enjoy the scenery and the natural desert like playing conditions that will soon be heralded throughout the area.

Worth the ride
There will never be a PGA championship at this course. But! This is the perfect place to have a great day out. You will play a fun 18 holes without putting a hole in your wallet. The large parking lot is directly in front of the real grass driving range. At the far right is an area to work on your wedges. The clubhouse is a stones throw from the parkinglot as well.
I would say the two real challenges are some of the fairways are narrow: as in narrow with no mercy. The other is the wind. Let's say this. If you are here on a golf vacation, play here first. Before you blow a hundred dollars to be upset with your self, drive a few minutes down route 10 and have breakfast in Benson. Play 18 at San Pedro and then head down to Bisbee by way of Tombstone. Eat in the very interesting town of Bisbee. Then head back up 10 for the rest of your vacation. Trust me,, it's worth it
Who let this course go to ####
This WAS an absolute favorite course, when I’m in SE of Az I make it point to play this course. I haven’t been here for maybe 2 years now and OMG! This course was so beautiful and Lush w/all the natural surrounding and peaceful serenity. 1st of all what happened to the Bunkers?! It looks like they removed the bunkers and let them grow out but it’s just an ugly pit of dirt and weeds. 2nd the fairways were soaking wet and muddy, there’s. I grass to water so dirt just turns to mud and this goes all the way to the green. Hole #2 was absolutely disgusting I would’ve quit then but I thought to myself it has to get better...WRONG! Tee boxes are trash, the only thing that looked good on the tee box were the colored markers.
I paid $20 and you bet I got what I paid for, so save your money and time. I have a feeling they are letting the course go to build homes I didn’t see any maintenance guys on the course, every course I play there's always guys around working the grounds. Such a shame 2020 has really been a tough year.

Muddy course.
Will not play again. Course very muddy, tees and greens in bad shape. Cart paths were full of pot holes, water and muddy. Fairways ok where not muddy and rutted., need toi clean ball of mud after every shot. Course needs a lot of work. Carts needed cleaning, could not see out front windshield.

San pedro
course is beautiful. Beautiful sites of surrounding mountain ranges nestled along the San pedro. Greens are improving
u314160267137, thank you for your kind words! We hope to see you again at the course very soon for another 5-star experience. Thanks for choosing San Pedro Golf Course.
Still improving...better than summer 2020
We played this course in July and it was not worth the drive. With hope of seasonal improvements, we tried it again. All tee times on Golf Now are Hot Deal Tee time. Their doing their best to get traffic and play. The course is a nice layout, and has a history of being a great track, yet it has experienced a few maintenance issues where a few greens a hurting, a few fairways got bald in spots, and the bunkers appear to be growing into moguls without sand. They are fortunate to have the San Pedro River water in order to combat the drought that other courses in Southern AZ are fighting. I will drive from Tucson again in late spring 2021 to see if it gets better after 'Winter Monsoons'.

Bad shape
The course is in really bad shape.
Most of the golf carts don't work leaving none ready when I got there. The cart I got had a tire go flat on the first hole. Took it back but there was no cart to replace it. They aired it up but it went flat again by 5th hole. They did bring me another by 6th hole.

Is It Closing Soon?
I've usually enjoyed playing San Pedro. It's moderately challenging and interesting. The course conditions this time, however, were appalling. The fairways were bare in some places, the greens were scrappy, and every bunker seemed abandoned, without sand and grass growing in many. The course overall was soggy. Course conditions have steadily gone downhill since the city of Benson took over. Given the current conditions, we were left wondering if Benson plans on abandoning the course entirely in the near future, which would be a shame.
Hi, tucsonsean. Thank you for reviewing the course. Let us first start by apologizing for the poor experience you had during your visit. Your feedback about the course is important to us. We are working to get everything up to par. We have projects ongoing to recover the fairways and greens. The current condition is by no means the standard we strive to achieve. Poor condition
The course is in very poor condition. Not much more to say than that

A bit dog eared
Fairways are getting better, but some of the greens still need lots of work.
There are water drainage issues, like on 17, where your ball can get stuck in the fairway "swamp"

Overseed Problems
We play this course often and conditions are often spotty. Appears that the overseed process had a lot of problems. Numerous fairways and greens are lacking grass and/or have bare spots as if the new grass did not take. Green on hole #9 is virtually unplayable - just give yourself an automatic 2 putt. Every bunker is unplayable (just weeds and rocks and mud with no sand). This is a good course to play if you can't get on anywhere else.

San Pedro Golf Course in extremely poor condition this year
I have played San Pedro many times and I really enjoy the course. I would normally recommend it. However, this year, the course is in extremely poor condition, including it's previously renown greens. I have always viewed San Pedro as a safe "go to" course, however, I was saddened to see the condition. I certainly hope that this is a temporary situation, that will be resolved as the COVID pandemic ultimately is contained. For the next several months, however, you won't find me at San Pedro again

YA KNOW??
Please show this to your town council. I just got out of the Army. I was stationed at Fort Huachuca for several years. I would play San Pedro about once a week. While I was there, San Pedro was always fighting for it's financial life. Now? I am about to come back to Arizona for a 2 week vacation. I was going to book a hotel in Benson. I was going to eat and shop in Benson. From the sound of your reviews, why would I travel down from Tucson to Benson? With 3 hotels just at the end of the road into San Pedro. With a pretty darn good place to eat right on the property; plus some nice places in town. You could offer some nice packages. People need a reason to drove down Route 10. You are the only golf course just off the inter-state, just in the back of a very real town. Vail? no.. the next nearest place like you? ( used to be a quarry) You're sitting on a real money maker
No Covid19 Protocols & Needs Maintenance
Let us start off by saying we have played this course several times each year over the past 3 years and love this course and many of the familiar faces we see staff wise.
That said.....
No masks anywhere by anyone in the clubhouse or by on course staff. Cups were not not modified at all so you had to fish you ball out of the hole (when you could actually putt - see more below in that). There was also a Vietnam War Memorial going on at the driving range - again - no masks, no social distancing.
Where are the former best bent greens in the southwest? Several greens were unplayable due to being burned out and/or full of Poana. Practice putting green looked great - no so much on the course.
Sand - bunkers were dried out, lacked sand and many had become overgrown.
Tee Boxes - some were just dirt......
Just sad that they are not following Covid19/CDC Guidelines and that their maintenance is lacking.
Much room for improvement required if you want us to come back.

Wait until after seeding
I have played this course for 10 years or more. The front 9 is a mess. Clover and greens 30 to 50 percent dirt. I know it’s dry. But water!
The back nine I was much better today. So o know it can be better
