San Pedro Golf Course
About
San Pedro Golf Course is an 18 - hole championship facility located on the banks of the San Pedro River. The golf course winds through the mesquite and along the banks of the San Pedro on the front nine. The back nine travels through four canyon like settings and finishes up with the 457-yard par four split fairway eighteenth hole. The golf course stretches out to 7187 yards from the tips and there are five sets of tees to accommodate golfers of all skill levels.
The surrounding vistas at San Pedro are unmatched by any other golf club in Southeastern Arizona. From various points on the course, the San Pedro River Basin can be seen and this Mark Rathert design stretches along those river banks to the natural canyon like settings with the Dragoon mountain range in the background. The elevation changes and cool crisp air provide a setting that will bring you back for the challenge.
The bentgrass greens will provide slick playing surfaces with some undulations to test your stroke. The key to play on hole # 2 - is to stay clear from the left side, as the San Pedro comes into play early in your round. Your second shot to this 457-yard par four will test your long iron game! The fifth creates a great approach to the green on this par five. The par four sixth requires precision off the tee, as there are two bunkers along the right side with a narrow approach to the green. The seventh is a cute par three that is followed up with a par four and the 558 yard par five ninth that requires two well placed shots as the right hand side is guarded by a pond as you approach the green. The left side approach is definitely your safety valve.
The back nine opens up with a straight away 400 yard par four followed by a 197 par three with a very tricky undulated green that slopes from left to right. Walk away with a three here and be happy. Holes 12 - 16 will offer you both scenery & challenges coupled with a great test of golf. The twelfth is as good a par four that exists. The tee shot leads you into a narrow area that favors the left side, as this is a slight dogleg right. The second shot will let you know if you can thread the needle as the approach is a gem. Once on this bowl shaped green area you will look back and see the beauty that Mark Rathert carved here. The ride to the thirteenth tee brings you to the highest elevation on the course, where the San Pedro River Valley surrounds you - encased by three mountain ranges including Cochises' Stronghold - where that once heralded Indian and his tribe staked their claim. The 605 yard thirteenth will require position to the right center on both your drive and second shot, as you approach to this green. The fourteenth resembles hole # 12 but is a tad longer. The fifteenth hole is a scenic par three with a drop of 50 feet from teeing area to green. The sixteenth and seventeenth give you a slight breather as you approach the finest finishing hole in Southeastern Arizona - the par four split fairway 457 yard eighteenth hole. Water comes into play off the tee as well as on the second shot to this green that is also guarded by a bunker as you approach the apron.
San Pedro is tough but fair with exceptional playing surfaces and a range of tees (5) that will test golfers of all levels. You won't tire at San Pedro - enjoy the scenery and the natural desert like playing conditions that will soon be heralded throughout the area.

Great escape!
Beautiful weather & fun away from the Covid-19 . Greens & fairways were in pretty good shape! Considering all that’s going on, everyone working there was very pleasant & friendly.
Love Benson!
Great track just east of Tucson. We play here about once a month outside of winter.
Pros:
Great staff - love them!
Great layout (desert links)
Clean restrooms
Water Stations!
Cleaned up overgrowth around water hazards & other locations throughout course.
Cons:
Greens were not what we are used to at this course - pretty beat up.
Bunkers need SANDDDDDD!!!
Slow Play (5.5 hrs is a bit much - near perfect weather offset the long day)
It’s winter so we get that there dormant grass - so should you if you go (provides great roll out!).
This was a great escape from the covid19 virus!
San Pedro
Once again Driving Range was closed. This time due to the course not picking up balls after a tournament the day before. DISAPPOINTING
COURSE CONTINUES TO NEED HELP
Very cold and windy, which challenged every shot. Fairways and greens were in good shape, but bunkers are terrible. They are mostly hard pan and rocks, so avoid them at all costs. Course layout is very good, but some added maintenance could make this and outstanding venue. But being city owned, I doubt funds will be made available. Otherwise when playing, have patience.
you get what you pay for
The course is not in perfect shape but it is not as bad as some people make it.There are alot of courses an hour north in tucson for $80 to $150 that are in perfect shape if that is what you are looking for.
Greens are not green
We heard they haven’t watered for a week, which explains the fact that everything is dry and all the greens are brown. Sand traps are all dirt.
You May Want to Give This Course a Pass Right Now
The course has deteriorated compared to previous years. The greens were extremely slow, not much grass on the fairways or tee boxes and the bunkers are terrible.. Also, there was something goofy going on due to a frost delay. All groups had to wait for groups who stated on the back 9 to come around to the first tee. Made for a very long day for no good reason. A 5+ hr round! Usually the pace of play has been excellent at this course. On the bright side, the beer cart lady came around 3 times and was very friendly, but that was it.
Not impressed today!

Arrived at the course and could not see the first hole tee box due to fog. After putting and trying to wait the fog out, I went out into the abyss. Anyway the first 5-6 holes were an adventure with not seeing fairways off the tee, or greens from the fairways. After about the 7th hole, the fog lifted. The course layout is great with many challenges, but course care is somewhat lacking. And I don't know about their watering schedule, but there was standing water everywhere, which included some the worst mud stuck on the shoes after the round.. Anyway I hope that somewhere or someway the city gets the money, much less the desire to get the San Pedro course back into good shape.
Never again
This was one of the worst places I’ve played for awhile. No Driving Range, No Food (Monday and Tuesday) , saw cart girl finally on hole 13 (there is no turn so better get what you want before first hole), very old golf carts, the course was not in very good shape. Bunkers were awful. And of course you’re playing next to a water treatment plant (figures) I dont know who’s in charged but that was pathetic Don’t play here. Find somewhere else
Fun Course Fabulous Price
Located 3 minutes off I-10 in Benson this is a fun course very well maintained. Friendly staff nice carts and tasty restaurant
Decent course
Its a little rough around the edges from the gravel and dusty cart paths otherwise it’s still fun and challenging to play. Greens are excellent and roll true, bunkers could use more care and sand.
A Good Challenge
Course conditions are improving with fairways and greens showing most improvement. Tee boxes remain a little rough. Bunkers show continued muddy conditions not conducive to reasonable play. Course layout is very good and challenging. With a good owner and money invested, this course could be one of the best in Southern Arizona.
Course conditions much improved
We played this course 2 weeks ago when they were having some staff issues and the course was too wet and the grass too high. Today was greatly improved, a few areas still need to be mowed but so much better. It's evident the staff have been working hard... keep it up!
Very Slow Play
The course is showing some improvement with fairways being mowed since over seeding efforts concluded. Greens are good albeit slower than they appear. Bunkers are still mostly compacted mud/wet dirt. Biggest problem for the day was slow play.
Hello,
We are aware of, and apologize for, the current condition of the course. Due to unforeseen circumstances our maintenance crew lost over 80% of its' force. We have made some additions to the team and the course conditions are improving daily. We appreciate your business and your patience during this time.
