San Pedro Golf Course
About
San Pedro Golf Course is an 18 - hole championship facility located on the banks of the San Pedro River. The golf course winds through the mesquite and along the banks of the San Pedro on the front nine. The back nine travels through four canyon like settings and finishes up with the 457-yard par four split fairway eighteenth hole. The golf course stretches out to 7187 yards from the tips and there are five sets of tees to accommodate golfers of all skill levels.
The surrounding vistas at San Pedro are unmatched by any other golf club in Southeastern Arizona. From various points on the course, the San Pedro River Basin can be seen and this Mark Rathert design stretches along those river banks to the natural canyon like settings with the Dragoon mountain range in the background. The elevation changes and cool crisp air provide a setting that will bring you back for the challenge.
The bentgrass greens will provide slick playing surfaces with some undulations to test your stroke. The key to play on hole # 2 - is to stay clear from the left side, as the San Pedro comes into play early in your round. Your second shot to this 457-yard par four will test your long iron game! The fifth creates a great approach to the green on this par five. The par four sixth requires precision off the tee, as there are two bunkers along the right side with a narrow approach to the green. The seventh is a cute par three that is followed up with a par four and the 558 yard par five ninth that requires two well placed shots as the right hand side is guarded by a pond as you approach the green. The left side approach is definitely your safety valve.
The back nine opens up with a straight away 400 yard par four followed by a 197 par three with a very tricky undulated green that slopes from left to right. Walk away with a three here and be happy. Holes 12 - 16 will offer you both scenery & challenges coupled with a great test of golf. The twelfth is as good a par four that exists. The tee shot leads you into a narrow area that favors the left side, as this is a slight dogleg right. The second shot will let you know if you can thread the needle as the approach is a gem. Once on this bowl shaped green area you will look back and see the beauty that Mark Rathert carved here. The ride to the thirteenth tee brings you to the highest elevation on the course, where the San Pedro River Valley surrounds you - encased by three mountain ranges including Cochises' Stronghold - where that once heralded Indian and his tribe staked their claim. The 605 yard thirteenth will require position to the right center on both your drive and second shot, as you approach to this green. The fourteenth resembles hole # 12 but is a tad longer. The fifteenth hole is a scenic par three with a drop of 50 feet from teeing area to green. The sixteenth and seventeenth give you a slight breather as you approach the finest finishing hole in Southeastern Arizona - the par four split fairway 457 yard eighteenth hole. Water comes into play off the tee as well as on the second shot to this green that is also guarded by a bunker as you approach the apron.
San Pedro is tough but fair with exceptional playing surfaces and a range of tees (5) that will test golfers of all levels. You won't tire at San Pedro - enjoy the scenery and the natural desert like playing conditions that will soon be heralded throughout the area.

Nice Course but very uneven
The course is always fun to play but the conditions are very uneven.. Most areas were very hard and the greens have very little grass to them.. The greens ran true and weren't terrible except for green #18.. The ducks are taking it over and it needs repair badly.. Some sand traps were partially filled with water and other areas very soft but mostly the course was very hard and dry. Either the sprinkler system got away from them or they got a heavy rain NO one else in this area received..Don't get me wrong we enjoy the course most of the time but it needs more even consistent watering and a lot of TLC..
good value
This is a fun and challenging course. Good overall value. Greens and fairways are good overall.
Excellent Course Layout, but needs help....
I've always considered San Pedro to be an excellent course and layout, but it seems it always needs "attention" in various ways. This course could be one of the best in southern Arizona if the course conditions and facilities could be upgraded. Tee boxes and fairways were good. Bunkers were in need of work with many in bad shape (hard or holding water). Greens were OK with speed, however coot droppings were highly evident on some greens near lakes, ball marks went unnoticed by prior golfers, and shoe scuff marks were evident on many greens.
In any case this course is good to play occasionally as it can be very challenging if you don't know the course. Too bad the course can't acquire a quality owner with sufficient means to make needed improvements.
San Pedro
Staff in the Pro Shop was really helpful and accommodating. I booked 2 separate twosome Hot Deals through Golf Now, 1 at 11:24 and 1 at 12:04. We arrived quiet early in the chance we could somehow play together as a foursome. I explained our situation to the lovely lady who was working in the Pro Shop at the time and without a blink of an eye she agreed to not only my request to tee off as a foursome but even allowed us to tee off earlier than our first twosome. The course was in great shape, the greens were very fast and mostly true. I made some very long putts and a few 1 putts thrown in for good measure. Kudos to San Pedro for helping us out and although the course is an hour drive from Green Valley , it’s well worth the effort. The mountain scenery in the distance is a bonus.
Fast greens
Played this course twice while staying in Benson. First round the fast greens exploded my scorecard. Second round I had a better idea about how to play them. The rest of the course is fun and challenging to a high handicapper like me. Will play again when we’re back in AZ.
San Pedro -- Fairways are in poor condition
Tee boxes are well maintained, greens were true and fast, fairways had dead grass, alot of bare dirt, and weeds in fairway, bunkers had little sand and mostly had raked dirt. There was standing water in many of the bunkers. We were disappointed in the overall fairway conditions and the rough was even worse. There are no distance yardage signs i.e. 200 yds, 150 yds, 100 yds in the fairway.
We played this course last year and the course was in a very similar poor condition. Needs alot of work and grounds maintenance grass seed in the fairway.
Great for all handycaps.
Five different tee box's making this challenging for all. Most enjoyable course.
GREAT DAY FOR GOLF
WE PLAYED FROM 10-1:30, AND THE COURSE WAS CLEAN AND NEAT, GREENS WERE MODERATELY FAST, AND ESPECIALLY SMOOTH. WELL TAKEN CARE OF. DESPITE NOT HAVING RAIN FOR 5 MONTHS, THE COURSE WAS HOLDING UP VERY WELL.
Bent Grass greens
Probably the best greens in all of Southern Arizona any time of the year, just wish I knew how to read them
course was in pretty good shape. greens were brown but rolled pretty smoothly, and held well. fairways were fine. front nine was quick, back nine we had to wait a lot, maybe because the back is so much harder, much tighter fairways, lots more lost balls. great service by the beverage cart operator. only suggestion by me is to get rid of all the weeds right at the edge of the fairway. this would be extremely easy, just concentrating on places where balls are likely to go, and just for the weeds closest to the fairways. this would mean fewer lost balls, less time wasted looking, and faster rounds. it would also make the course look much nicer.
Review
Was looking forward to playing the course, but was disappointed-maybe because I did not play well. The greens were in poor condition, as well as several portions of the fairways. Sand in bunkers was inconsistent. Wind was severe on several holes. All-in-all not a pleasant experience.
Challenging with great views and great greens
This is one of my favorite golf courses....the price is right and and the greens are true and fast. This links golf course very well designed to keep you interested and will challenge you. Try it....
Canadian 4-some
The course was in good shape, the greens were true and the pace of play was excellent. We enjoyed the course but the cart paths were a bit rough on some of the holes. Overall waws good value for the money.
The course can be challenging
The look of the course is deceiving as the weather makes the greens and fairways look brown and uninviting.
The greens are receptive to approach shots and roll smoothly. The sand traps have plenty of sand. The fairways are wider than they look off the tee.
The only issues were a couple of places that don't drain as well as the remainder of the course and the driving range was not available.
The woman in the pro shop is always very helpful and kind.
Sunday San Pedro
Ive played this course many times. They have made several improvements. There was some spots where there standing water like they over watered. I just moved my ball.
Fun course.
