Colts Neck Golf Club
About
Colts Neck Golf Club is one of central New Jersey's most popular courses. The diverse course offers everything from Scottish-style bunkers to sparkling lakes. Tall golden fescue rough borders the fairways and the greens are large and undulating. The course is seemingly short at only 6,236 yards but it shouldn't be taken lightly. It's much more challenging than it appears. The layout finishes with two of its toughest holes. The 17th has a tough green fiercely guarded by out-of-bounds and the course saved the most difficult hole for last. This par 3 will test even the most seasoned golfers. In addition to the golf course, Colts Neck also has a 25-station driving range that stays open late. It's a great spot for getting in some practice after work.

Long Drive
Even though I had 2 three hour commutes from Brooklyn, NY, the pace of play was awesome, 3hr round. Course layout is nice, not too difficult, great for a Sunday afternoon drive down the fairway.
FUN COURSE
If you are a decent player looking to put up a good score this is the spot. This course is not long even from the blues but what makes it fun is the layout. This is a placement/shot makers golf course. Every hole is birdiable but nothing is too easy. They do have a stretch of 3-4 holes on the backside that are fairly difficult and the finishing hole is an intimidating par 3. 9 times out of 10 the greens are soft and rolling quick. Practice green and range are average. Best thing about this course is playability, quality or fairways/greens and visual appeal from the tee box.
Great condition, nice layout
Colts neck is a very nice layout. The rough is penal but not US Open-style so you can advance your ball but still have to consider the lie. Greens were firm and running quite nicely, but I prefer fast greens. Carts have GPS with all of the latest views, etc. The starter was very friendly but he was the exception.
I did have one pretty big issue - the battery on our GPS died after 6 holes. Because the club is so reliant upon the GPS units the course isn't marked well so we struggled with distance all day. Since you don't go near the clubhouse again after the 3rd hole it was a bit of a struggle. Considering the surly nature of the staff we were reluctant to call the clubhouse and get a new cart driven out to us and then feel obligated to tip them for something we should have had all along. Also, at the end of or round the pro shop was closed so there was no one around to listen to a complaint, including the cart staff.
Other than the cart issue I'd recommend this course. Just leave your yourself enough time to play as pace of play isn't monitored. You also should bring your own drinks as there was no one driving around with beverages.
colts neck
Course was in terrific condition, but pace of play was slow. It seems when the members play in the afternoon, they like a 5-plus hour round and they don't let you play through. Also, halfway house was closed as usual and pro shop staff not too friendly if you are not a member.
No amenities
Very nice course but halfway house not open no cart girl and if you're not a member you can even buy a beer terrible amenities.
Excellent Condition
Course is well maintained and staff is very friendly.
great course
Today was one of the more enjoyable rounds of the season for me. Really beautiful course with some very challenging long par 3s(my buddy stuck it to 3 feet on the 223 yard par 3 somehow). The staff was very friendly and we managed to finish in less than 4 hours which might have been in part to people staying home bc of a nasty weather forecast(it started to rain as were on the 18th tee). I felt like the course was hard but fair from the back tees. My only complaints which are both very minor would be $9 for a small bucket to warmup, and that we got lost a few times trying to find the next tee box(that might have been more on us then the course but it felt confusing at the time lol). We had lunch in the bar/restaurant area after our round and the food was great. Overall I thought this course was excellent and I will definitely be back.
Solid course
I play here frequently through golf now. The course is always in great shape and pace of play is always smooth. Not a long course. A couple holes have awkward layouts. And the final hole 18 par 3 is a pretty tough finishing hole. 195 yard with water lining whole left side and fescue, water and traps to right. If your not on the green then you're usually lost.
Nice layout
Course was well maintained and the layout challenging. Very nice senic area. Cards with GPS very helpful except from tee area where most cart paths did not go back to the tee box. Minor issue however. Would love to play again.
Consistently a let down.
While the course is in better than decent shape and a fun layout, they seem to lack on attention to detail with amenities. Half way house is frequently not open, water jugs empty on the course, beverage and food cart being stocked out. For what they charge, not a good value.
Long course but fun
WE had a great time. The course wa sin great shape especially the front.
Very slow and short course
The pace of play was very slow and the layout is such that you are playing a lot of short irons. Not good if you are looking for a chance to work your medium irons.
semi private seclusion
in beautiful horse country near Jersey shore Colts Neck Golf Club is an unusual treat. A smallish plot of land and a quirky layout with a par 37 front and a par 34 back (with 4 par 3's). But yet except for 1 and 2 no fairways run next to each other. Since it is semi-private there are not a lot of rounds played and the conditioning is very good. Greens are quite fast but not overly contoured. Bunkers are well maintained and fairways are fully grassed.
Played an under 4 hr round on a Sunday teeing off at 11 am. That in itself is a miracle; worth the price. No really memorable holes until 18 which is a very difficult par 3. But nice rolling country; probably could play here without a driver; even the 5 par fives are more positioning than brute strength.
Of note though. Nine does not come back to the clubhouse and their halfway house was closed on a Sunday. There is a cart girl but if there is no member in your group you cannot buy beer. Nor can you purchase it in the clubhouse. So, if i were a Mormon i might give it 5 stars.
Beautiful
My first time at this course and I really loved playing here. Really well maintained and in tip top shape!
