Grander than the last year
It is clear that the grounds crew is working this place back into shape from last year. It is still not what it once was 7 years ago. They eliminated many sand traps over the last few years. Then, I'm sure based on recent storms, removed many trees this year compared to last year. I would say it made the course easier, but allowed the grass on the greens and fairway to grow better. Overall conditions have improved. It is fun course. Not the best value, but one that you won't regret going to once a year.
Top five best in southern Michigan
Absolutely beautiful, challenging, and in excellent condition.
Up North Golf Experience
Loved it and didn't have to drive 4 + hours up North!
Grande golf course is a pleasant and fun course to play!
Grande course gives the feeling of playing northern Michigan courses. Great views, layout and conditions! I would definitely be going back to this course.
Great venue, great views, great conditions.
Outstanding round, pace of play was as fast or as slow as we wished it to be. Basically, had the course to ourselves. When I asked about lack of business, they said, Monday afternoons are usually slow. Hadn’t played course since Covid and they had removed many trees which gave course a more open feel. Highly recommend this course to anyone who loves golf!
Fun , bring your swamp buggy No one there Crazy
I have wanted to play this course for several years after playing Calderone a few times after my party moved my buddy moved down to Jackson now he lives up east of Lansing. But he had a heart attack in January so it was time to see him and play some golf with my good buddy Dave. So we thoroughly enjoyed Jaron and we played Cascades before, but not the grand with an neon all this was quite something only about a half dozen cars in a parking lot 1 o’clock in the afternoon on a Monday. We scored a great deal of $70.07 zero for two go golfers so for $35 each it was a bargain. It normally is $54 senior 59 for average show. Well,
We really enjoyed this place. There was a lot of swamp cherries with bugs and you had to get the ball over a lot of stuff out there but it was a fun course really good shape absolutely humongous huge Greens Great and we really thoroughly enjoyed it and I guess I would play it again. The GPS worked well but as a pain in the butt shutting you down but once you get off away from highway 127 it’s nice and quiet. We played the disease right behind the red T so we were only at 5500 yards but I score extremely well. I can’t believe I shot a 7837 and 41 my buddy did not fair so well he shot 108. We bought a few beers at the turn over on line and Cogle summer Shandy so like we had the place to ourselves it was very eerie, but we had a great time. The golf cart pass are pretty bad but so they really have the course in nice shape. I guess I would still give the nod to Cal around slightly better but this is very close very serene give a shot. Give a try worth it.
Pleasant surprise
The layout and conditioning of this golf is pure playable and challenging with very consistent greens
Plays like a 4 1/2 star course tucked in lower Michigan and is underrated in my opinion
Excellent
Great Staff challenge course from the right set of tees great greens up north feel to it
Grande
Absolutely a great course! Thought the holes were wide enough so didn’t keep losing balls. Greens were tough but in great condition! Enjoyed this course very much, looking forward to playing it again, real hidden gem!
Great pace of play
We moved out of state and haven't played The Grande in years. We were pleased with the course conditions and pace of play. Lot's of choices in the area and glad we chose The Grande.
Grande is back!
Anything you’ve heard about the conditions at Grande going downhill are WRONG! Course was in fantastic shape. I really enjoy the layout and the lack of homes and rolling elevation really feels like an up north course. 100% the best course in the area.
Fun in Michigan
Great course and staff. Will definitely be back again
Nothing negative here
Great course, great conditions only thing that would be nice "coming from my girlfriend who was plating with us" she said having 2 porta johns on the front and back would be nice, considering the amount of ticks in the tall grass. The course is huge and the carts have GPS so doubling back to the Jon would be extremely difficult. With that being said this course is a cant miss in Jackson County.
Still a Mid-Michigan Gem
The reviews of the Grande being in a state of decline are now a thing of the past. I'm sure like most you reading the reviews from the 2024 season were heartbreaking, especially if you played the Grande back in the day.
We played here on Mother's day, the weather was perfect, the number of other groups on the course was almost nonexistent. The reviews of the conditions of the course being in decline are now a thing of the past.
This is one of the nicest courses in Jackson County as well as mid Michigan. The track is interesting, the layout is scenic (from time to time you'd feel like you were playing in Northern Michigan). You'll have to think about your current and next shot, you'll want to stay in control of your accuracy, errant shots will cost you. That being said it's still fun for newer players(not a course for beginners), you will want to know how to play the game at least at an advanced beginner/intermediate level of play. Just make sure you play from the set of tee boxes suited for your level of play. I'm a low to mid 80s player and did fine from the Green Tees, my wife that plays 18 in the mid 90s did just fine from the white tee boxes.
The Pros:
The fairways were in great shape, they were weed free, mowed to perfection. The bunkers are well maintained and on our day out on the Grande were raked and free of debris, footprints, the edges were sharp and crisp. The greens, firm yet fair, rolled true, fast but manageable, and most importantly, at the time of this review great shape for Mid May in Michigan. They were pitch mark and scuff/spike free. The carts are pristine, heck, they were spotless, the built in GPS worked great, just know that the greens are GeoFenced and the cart will only go in reverse if you get to close to the greens and the natural waste areas. They have usb ports to keep your electronics up and running as week. The carts are Not EVs they are gas powered and they are governed to not go really fast. (kind of a drag). Dudes in the clubhouse were friendly and professional.
The cons:
At the time we played there were not ball washers on the course which was a head scratcher considering the quality of course. The carts didn't have them built in either. Just have a wet towel with so you can keep your balls clean along with your heads and shafts of your clubs. (so many jokes there so little time).
Bev cart... The day we played there wasnt any out on the course which we would have taken advantage of. I have to imagine the skeleton crew of staff is due to it being early in the season.
They serve Pepsi products for there pop , yuck! (Personal bias)
They do have a good selection of brewskis, but the real booze is limited in selection and are airplane bottles in size.
Bottomline: the 2024 negative reviews are a thing of the past the course is making a comeback! The Grande is a great track and the conditions of her are getting better every day.
Incredible layout
Over like 600 acres so many holes with fun layouts and green complexes. Wide fairways and big greens but challenges you with approach shots getting below the hole. Can score very well if your short game is on if not can easily struggle.
