Grande is back!
Anything you’ve heard about the conditions at Grande going downhill are WRONG! Course was in fantastic shape. I really enjoy the layout and the lack of homes and rolling elevation really feels like an up north course. 100% the best course in the area.
Fun in Michigan
Great course and staff. Will definitely be back again
Nothing negative here
Great course, great conditions only thing that would be nice "coming from my girlfriend who was plating with us" she said having 2 porta johns on the front and back would be nice, considering the amount of ticks in the tall grass. The course is huge and the carts have GPS so doubling back to the Jon would be extremely difficult. With that being said this course is a cant miss in Jackson County.
Still a Mid-Michigan Gem
The reviews of the Grande being in a state of decline are now a thing of the past. I'm sure like most you reading the reviews from the 2024 season were heartbreaking, especially if you played the Grande back in the day.
We played here on Mother's day, the weather was perfect, the number of other groups on the course was almost nonexistent. The reviews of the conditions of the course being in decline are now a thing of the past.
This is one of the nicest courses in Jackson County as well as mid Michigan. The track is interesting, the layout is scenic (from time to time you'd feel like you were playing in Northern Michigan). You'll have to think about your current and next shot, you'll want to stay in control of your accuracy, errant shots will cost you. That being said it's still fun for newer players(not a course for beginners), you will want to know how to play the game at least at an advanced beginner/intermediate level of play. Just make sure you play from the set of tee boxes suited for your level of play. I'm a low to mid 80s player and did fine from the Green Tees, my wife that plays 18 in the mid 90s did just fine from the white tee boxes.
The Pros:
The fairways were in great shape, they were weed free, mowed to perfection. The bunkers are well maintained and on our day out on the Grande were raked and free of debris, footprints, the edges were sharp and crisp. The greens, firm yet fair, rolled true, fast but manageable, and most importantly, at the time of this review great shape for Mid May in Michigan. They were pitch mark and scuff/spike free. The carts are pristine, heck, they were spotless, the built in GPS worked great, just know that the greens are GeoFenced and the cart will only go in reverse if you get to close to the greens and the natural waste areas. They have usb ports to keep your electronics up and running as week. The carts are Not EVs they are gas powered and they are governed to not go really fast. (kind of a drag). Dudes in the clubhouse were friendly and professional.
The cons:
At the time we played there were not ball washers on the course which was a head scratcher considering the quality of course. The carts didn't have them built in either. Just have a wet towel with so you can keep your balls clean along with your heads and shafts of your clubs. (so many jokes there so little time).
Bev cart... The day we played there wasnt any out on the course which we would have taken advantage of. I have to imagine the skeleton crew of staff is due to it being early in the season.
They serve Pepsi products for there pop , yuck! (Personal bias)
They do have a good selection of brewskis, but the real booze is limited in selection and are airplane bottles in size.
Bottomline: the 2024 negative reviews are a thing of the past the course is making a comeback! The Grande is a great track and the conditions of her are getting better every day.
Incredible layout
Over like 600 acres so many holes with fun layouts and green complexes. Wide fairways and big greens but challenges you with approach shots getting below the hole. Can score very well if your short game is on if not can easily struggle.
Got sent off the back, pace was great for a single
Starter sent me off the back cause I was a single and there was an outing finishing up. Pace was great. Course was in great shapes
Unacceptable
Greens in terrible condition, mowed grass everywhere and unacceptable mud pits in the middle of the fairway. I will not be back for 70 bucks a round.
Needs some work
Course could use some more attention to upkeep. It has gone downhill significantly over the past several years while rates have increased. Many damaged fairways and greens that appear to have been that way since before the heavy rains. Cart paths are in poor condition. GPS layout is not accurate to actual course. There was only one person working the pro shop counter and bar area. She did a great job but several groups were standing around and more workers couple would help. This is a great course just needs to be given the maintenance it deserves.
Not worth it
Who pays 72$ to play here? Grass clumps everywhere in the rough & not just a little. Assuming this is a build up over weeks. Tee boxes were beaten up and there were plenty of large dead areas on the greens. Course had no ranger, no cart service on a Saturday. They also allow large groups. We had to play behind an 8 some and there was also a 10 some on the course. Drove an hour to play. Won’t be making that mistake again.
Hidden Gem
A very beautiful course in the Jackson area. The course wasn’t busy and we had an enjoyable round.Course is in great condition and will definitely play again.
Beautiful track
Played the green tees and it was awesome. Easily one of the best public courses around Jackson proper. It’s really not even close… Track and conditions were money, and the practice facility is massive! Greens rolled true and weren’t super firm. The only knock is the clubhouse looking a little old and small for being on such a large property, but who really cares, it’s not a country club. Definitely coming back!
Hidden Gem
This is a pretty awesome track it definitely tests your game you have to pick your spots not a hit and go kind of course makes you think your way around. Not a flat area nowhere but very fun challenge. Also you get a up north feel. For me I feel this is a very under rated course. Only downside I for me the sign to the tees could be better that's it. 4.5 Stars out of 5 for me definitely going back
Very nice course
Was tentative making the drive out here with the previous reviews, but per management it was an irrigation issue which is now fixed. Highly recommend, layout is great with great views, has a up north feel to it. Wide fairways and sone tough/hilly greens. Highly recommend
Bombed out husk
This place has gone completly down hill. the back nine is unplayable, completely dead, greens cracked like a desert floor and hard a a rock, trees ripped from the ground and the root ball holes not filled in, and they have the audacity to charge $59, Did Vargo Golf buy the course? It looks like they sre prepping it to become a subdivision. Sad because it was once a great track, and it's destroyed now. Will never be back, although it will probably be closed next season, Stay away stay far away
