Legacy Ridge Country Club

About
Bonham’s newest golf course has the natives all excited about their new Bill Johnston design, created to serve as the centerpiece of a unique residential community. With the benefit of several unique landscapes at his disposal, Johnston built a front nine that starts high and weaves through lakes and waterfalls, smoothly transitioning into a parkland-style route highlighted by pecans and oaks.
The par 5 No. 9 stands out on the front, taking you back up the ridge with an approach shot into an almost cliffside green nestled against the lake.
The wetlands of Bois d’ Arc Creek line the back nine fairways, keeping water in play most of the nine. Johnston made this one fun with multiple approach shots over water, including one par 3 that plays into an island green.
Do what you can to work your way onto this course, because it’s rare to experience such a quality course in such an enjoyable, rural setting.
Getting there : From McKinney, take US 75 north to the Bonham 121 exit. Hwy. 121 merges into Hwy. 56 south of Bonham. Turn right on Hwy. 82 E.

Bent grass pasture?
This course would be solid if the greens were Bermuda and taken care of. I believe it’s probably incompetence from the people running the course, but the “bent grass” greens are for a lack of better words, trash. There is more goose grass growing than bent grass because these people don’t know how to manage bent grass in this Texas climate.
The folks there are nice, but they should be offering free rounds to people who agree to pluck goose grass from the greens, instead of charging them the ridiculous rate of $52 for a weekend play with greens in this kind of shape.
Lastly, I feel sorry for the members who get to play here and pay these folks who refuse to fix the problem with these greens. These geeens are 1/10, see pictures.
Poor turf conditions
Most greens had serious issues with weeds which made it impossible to make an accurate putt. Some areas were extremely dry while other areas were extremely wet. Course did not sell beer which I did not know until arrival. Overall not a good course and my group likely will not be back. Even though the round was $50, I expected more.
Awesome staff!
The greeting from the staff and their friendliness was super nice!! Great place to play!
FUN TO PLAY
I VERY MUCH ENJOY THIS GOLF STAFF, COURSE AND MEMBERS . PLUS I SHOT 4 UNDER 68 !
Goat ranch
I have a hard time accepting the fact that we paid $40 per player to play this course. It looks very rundown and like no one is taking care of anything. The rough was literally 5 to 6 inches tall And we had many lost balls because it was so deep, the greens had weeds all over them, hole number 13 In particular had a 8 inch strip carved into the green that went from one end to the other, None of the waterfalls were working as in the pictures on the website.. The tea boxes were not even tea boxes with several of them under construction. Literally, my front yard at my house was in better condition than this course. Honestly I feel that they sank all their money into the golf carts, which was without a doubt, the best part of the experience. This course has definitely made do not come again List!
Very disappointing!
Nice little spot
If you haven’t play in Bonham before please do, offers a challenge links style front 9 and a traditional back 9. Course is in good shape for July, tee boxs and greens in good shape with plenty of water to keep you honest. Always like playing the course and was glad I booked the tee time.
This place needs a mowing
The front nine is Hairy long as in a beard that needs trimming. It is hard to find your ball even when it lands in the fairway. Back nine is OK.
Caution - front nine is over grown
I like this course. Played it 06/12 but only the back. Front was closed due to flooding. This week both sides are open and the front is almost unplayable. The rough is so high you can not find your ball, I would recommend 'deal time' only through the end of the month and only play the back nine.
Great Value
$45.00 for a Sunday afternoon round! I have paid twice that at a number of other courses only to deal with unfriendly staff. Because of the recent rains there are some areas that are behind a proper cut but the course is still a challenge. The staff went out of their way to be helpful.
Great Deal
Greens are perfect and pace of play was good. Great mid-week round.
Back 9 was excellent
Front 9 still drying out but from view off it it’s going to be in great condition also. It was closed. I think the want it to be good before it’s open again! Staff was very friendly
Fun course
First time to play this course. We played the back 9 twice, due to the front 9 being flooded. Have had severe weather in that area recently. It is a great track. The greens and fairways are in great shape. Lots of trees call for some precise shots off the tee box. Staff was very friendly, will definitely be back to play the entire course.
Good and cheap track for the money
She’s not the flashiest, or the most sparkling jewel in the area. However, my son and I love coming here due to the pace of play, staff friendliness, the bang for our buck along the challenges of the course.
The front nine had been closed more than open this year due to the copias amounts of rain. It’s a link style front nine with a parkland wooded feel to the back nine. It could use some more TLC, but she fits our budget and expectations just fine. I’ll be back next weekend. Thanks LR.
