Legacy Ridge Country Club
About
Bonham’s newest golf course has the natives all excited about their new Bill Johnston design, created to serve as the centerpiece of a unique residential community. With the benefit of several unique landscapes at his disposal, Johnston built a front nine that starts high and weaves through lakes and waterfalls, smoothly transitioning into a parkland-style route highlighted by pecans and oaks.
The par 5 No. 9 stands out on the front, taking you back up the ridge with an approach shot into an almost cliffside green nestled against the lake.
The wetlands of Bois d’ Arc Creek line the back nine fairways, keeping water in play most of the nine. Johnston made this one fun with multiple approach shots over water, including one par 3 that plays into an island green.
Do what you can to work your way onto this course, because it’s rare to experience such a quality course in such an enjoyable, rural setting.
Getting there : From McKinney, take US 75 north to the Bonham 121 exit. Hwy. 121 merges into Hwy. 56 south of Bonham. Turn right on Hwy. 82 E.

Great course layout and easygoing round.
I was the first one out as a solo at 8am which
I played in 3 hours 10 minutes. Great atmosphere with the distinct layout of links on the front and woodlands on the back nine.
The greens were decent and the short stuff could use a little tlc in some places. However, this is my new favorite course as I was totally alone at times without a care in the world. I’ll be back again.
Good solid course and fun.
I like this course. It is very basic tee-green. Greens are bent grass and they have perked back up from the long hot summer. This course is prone to slow play because the country folk that plays here are in no hurry to do anything. Expect a 4-5 hour round even during the week.
Average course.
This course needs some TLC. Tee boxes are hard as a rock and many fairways have cracks in the ground. All greens have been punched and sanded this week, so putting is a bit of a challenge. 150 yard markers are posts that are not 100% accurate, so a range finder is a must. .
Greens in good shape
Greens were in good shape. Course is very dry. Very difficult to put a tee in the ground on the tee box and a lot of cracks in the ground. Some greens need a shot of pre-emergent.
Course is nice, some greens need some work, needs to be mowed around ponds, and some trees n ed to be trimmed on a few holes. Other than that loved it.
It was OK.
Staff is nice. The track itself isn’t bad but the greens are horrid. Overpriced for the quality, location, and having 0 water to drink on the course; not even a beverage cart. Probabaly won’t be back for a while.
Slow play etc.
Overall it has changed alot miss the old guy could talk with him forever about golf. I played the course growing up and I'm just going to say I've had better experiences.
Losing some greens
Great pace. Penalized for missing the fairway. First cut rough was brutal. Easy to lose your ball on the first cut rough. Some of the tee box were hard as a rock and hard to put tee down. The green are receptive and slow. They are losing 40% of the greens to weed.
Staff friendliness!!!!
Fun track. Greens were super soft and some are overrun with weeds. A few were unplayable. They do water everywhere. So it's not baked out like lots of other courses in the area. Sherry in the pro shop was the highlight of the day. She was extremely friendly and welcoming. Played in two hours as a single, which was perfect for the 105° day.
Great course, great people.
Course is the best course for a cheap price in Grayson county, greens are pure and the course has stayed in good condition even with the Texas heat. Great people running this course and in pro shop, they care about the right things.
Love the course
Didn't get to play.Be came ill.Rain check unavailable. Not happy with that !!!!!

Course was in good condition for the temperature.. temperature range from 99to105
Two Courses in One
I like this course. The front nine has no trees but water everywhere. The back nine has lots of trees and a little water. Staff is friendly and greens are soft but the rough is thick and nasty around the greens so take a lob wedge. I find the front nine more difficult than the back.
Really Fun Course
Played early on the 4th, got amazing luck with the weather for July in Texas.
There is water all over this course but the fairways are wide and the greens played terrific. Only thing keeping the course from a full 5 rating was the tees, but they weren’t bad, just not great. Hard to hit the trifecta.
A fun course that can challenge but is also fair. Lovely views with ponds and tree lined fairways and creeks. We saw a beaver on the first hole, and 2 deer on the 17th fairway.
Just a pleasant experience from start to finish. Staff was super friendly, just a real great course I’ll certainly play again.
Only a 40 min drive from McKinney, hit it up! 🤩
The second hottest summer on record was cruel on Legacy's Bentgrass greens for sure!
Since the temperature is now below 85, we are able to verti-cut and will overseed the greens mid-October.
The water coolers are at the front of the clubhouse and between #9 and #10. We offer coolers on the cart and sell 2 bottles of water for $1... plus other beverages. You are correct... no beverage cart.
