Legacy Ridge Country Club
About
Bonham’s newest golf course has the natives all excited about their new Bill Johnston design, created to serve as the centerpiece of a unique residential community. With the benefit of several unique landscapes at his disposal, Johnston built a front nine that starts high and weaves through lakes and waterfalls, smoothly transitioning into a parkland-style route highlighted by pecans and oaks.
The par 5 No. 9 stands out on the front, taking you back up the ridge with an approach shot into an almost cliffside green nestled against the lake.
The wetlands of Bois d’ Arc Creek line the back nine fairways, keeping water in play most of the nine. Johnston made this one fun with multiple approach shots over water, including one par 3 that plays into an island green.
Do what you can to work your way onto this course, because it’s rare to experience such a quality course in such an enjoyable, rural setting.
Getting there : From McKinney, take US 75 north to the Bonham 121 exit. Hwy. 121 merges into Hwy. 56 south of Bonham. Turn right on Hwy. 82 E.

Tremendous Potential
First of all, let me just say that the only reason that I didn't give this course a higher rating is because the course is not in great shape right now. Some of the greens are a little bumpy and some of the fairways and other areas of the course could use some work, but it was still playable. I drove almost 2 hours from my home to get there, and I was a little disappointed in the overall condition of the golf course, but not deterred from playing it. This golf course has the potential to be one of the most beautiful and challenging golf courses in North Texas. I even thought about what I could do with it if I hit the lottery and bought it, I would shut it down for a year and put a couple of million dollars worth of work into it, and when I opened it up next February, people would be lined up down the freeway trying to get a tee time to play it. I realize that it takes a lot of money to run a golf course and keep it in great condition, but you don't just throw a diamond ring in the trash because it got a little dirty!!! You polish it and wear it! This could be a 5 star diamond 💎. I look forward to coming back and playing it again in the future, I just hope that they are able to polish up this diamond a little more.
Great place to play Golf
I 've played Legacy ridge many times this year and have never had any regrets. Staff is great, course is always in very good shape considering the weather we've had. This is one of my favorite places to play in N/E Texas.
Big course feel for good price in rural country town. Approx 45-1hr from most Far North Dallas Suburbs
Played for first time on Monday 12.30.2024.
Location - Although an hour drive from Plano/Allen/Mckinney it is an easy country drive once you head east of I-75.
Food/ Concessions - Had 9:30 tee time.
***Suggest taking your own food snacks*** No Cart person on staff. Or at least a quick option on the turn. When approaching the 9th hole I was excited to make the turn and replenish with a snickers/coke, or something easy and quick. When I reached the clubhouse at the turn to find no "quick" option to get anything before having to continue my round. The staff was there helping others and no one in the grill area to help. The course needs to improve in this regards.
They need one person dedicated to just snack and drinks. Or at the very least a vending machine would suffice. Especially when the golf course is full with foursomes thats easy cash revenue for the clubhouse.
Price - Compared to the green fees costs to in town courses I felt it was a great value for a full round during the holidays.
Course:
I played day after big rain and it was still water logged in many areas. It was very windy
(TX winter golf). With the large amount of rain the day before the course was still very
playable. Although not much ball roll due to wet fairways and it did require a need for free
drop away from standing water/mud, etc. on some holes. (still playable)
Depending on which tees your hitting from there are water hazards on or near almost every hole on front nine. OB didn't seem to come into play for me.
Greens are fairly patchy and I would considere them below avg right now. It looks to be Bent-Grass with really good potential of being really great in a future seasons. Right now, almost every green has some visible area with fairly large areas patchy spots. On a handful of holes it did affect some 10' or less putts.(bumpy) It looked like all the greens are still in recovery mode from a prior infection to the greens but also considering it is Dec/Jan it should improve once into the warmer months. With that said the greens were super soft which helped stopping the ball on the green when hitting approach shots.
Good times! I will be back!
Good Pace
Nice to play in 3 hours. Nice staff.
Will return
Great layout - off season conditions
The layout for this course rivals high-end country clubs that rewards accuracy and punishes errant shots. Unfortunately, the greens were in need of repair but overall the experience was well worth the 75 minute drive from the Frisco/Prosper area. Having the cart included and the BYOB rule makes this course a fantastic value.
Improved Conditions
This course has perked up within the last two weeks. We had three inches of rain, so the fairways are recovering from the cracks of Summer. The greens are 80% recovered from the weed infestation of Sept-Oct.
Good Value
Greens and fairways are poor. Greens have weeds and fairways have some severe cracks in the ground. The course is playable, but I would advise playing after they get 5 inches of rain.
GREAT VALUE
BEST VALUE ON GOLF NOW IN THE DALLAS / NORTH TEXAS AREA
This course needs 5 inches of rain.
The greens are surviving but the fairways are suffering. There are cracks in the ground everywhere. I would recommend waiting until mid-October to play here..
GOOD PEOPLE
PLAYED IN THE RAIN ALL DAY AND HAD A FUN TIME.
PEOPLE RUNNING THE CLUB ARE THE VERY BEST. GO OUT AN PLAY YOU WILL HAVE A GREAT TIME. CHECKOUT THE PRICE FOR GOLF AND CART !
Needs some TLC
The greens were perfect back in June after we had 15 inches of rain, but the Summer has toasted this course. Greens have weeds and the fairways have acute dry cracks. The course is playable but I would recommend waiting until the area has had 3 inches of rain to play.
Course has potential
This course has great potential with layout and such but the greens are unplayable. Do not golf here if you are looking to putt on good greens. If you are looking for a nice time trying new golf shots from the tees and fairway this is a good place to come, not if you are looking to finish holes by putting the ball in the hole with your putter. First review I’ve ever left on here but feel like it had to be done. The Greens are just not playable.
This course could be amazing
This course used to be decent, never great but decent. Every green is filled with weeds, the clubhouse only offers hot dogs and chips. They have a beautiful clubhouse but only utilize the front entrance as the rest of it is just dead space from what it looks like to me. It is a shame with golf getting so popular that they dont just make a move and make this place about the golfers and stop trying to make it a wedding venue. Charging over 50 dollars on the weekend for a course you can't even putt on. Get rid of the bent grass greens if you cant keep up with them or make them work. They have a lot of work to do and from what i seen they are going to run it into the ground.
