Great looking course!
Great Lakes exceeded our expectation, especially when compared to other public courses in the area.
Very hilly fairways, but the challenge was apt.
Sadly, facilities are lacking (porta-potties on 6 and 17), but the staff was friendly and the greens were in excellent shape.
So quiet out there, too. Definitely need a cart, though, as some of the holes are quite a distance from one another. Cart paths are all concrete all the way.
Great Layout
Course offers a wide variety of holes and terrain changes, which is uncommon for Houston. Some long par 4's and short ones mixed in. Greens break way more than first appearance. My gripe is there are no yardage markers on the course, no sprinkler heads, nothing marked on the cart paths and nothing in the fairways! Everything is an educated guess. Spend $100 on some paint and at least mark the cart paths at 250, 200, 150 and a 100
Favorite Place to Play
The pace of play is a bit slow lately, but I love playing at grand lakes. Very few houses on the course, grass is easy to read, greens are great for the price, and the price is always great. I love the peace and quite I get there.
Weird
No clubhouse, very crowded, they ran out of carts, teed off 20 minutes past tee time. People were very friendly. The course is not in great shape. The greens are very small. Lots of bumbs and ravines. Tee boxes in disrepair. Parking lot was gravel in some areas, grass in others, and it was overcrowded. Despite all that, it seems to be very popular.
Amazing course
The course was in amazing condition. It is a long course, but the layout is awesome. Only one problem there is no driving range or practice greens. If that does not bother you and you live close get the membership.
Gary Player would Approve
Grand Lakes is a Gary Player designed course . It’s definitely not cookie cutter . Every hole has different challenges . 5 years ago the course needed lots of work . Today it’s a completely different course . Almost every hole is tree lined . . Every week they are making improvements . The Fairways have gotten much better since all of the waste areas have been removed in the last few years .My favorite improvement is that the greens are comparable to The Woodlands greens where I live . Bunkers are plentiful and are being improved also . It’s always been important to me that Customers service is a priority and at Grand Lakes it is . Since there is no Clubhouse they allow golfers to bring their own coolers . It’s nice always having whatever snacks or drinks I want to bring . So if you want to find a reasonably priced course that will challenge your game give Grand Lakes a try . Will Mattern ⛳️😀
Course Conditions Great
This has to be the most improved course in the area. Greens are excellent, fairways good. Traps are not bad. The superintendent has done a great job of getting this place in good shape.
