River Bend Golf Club
About
River Bend Golf Club combines some of the most unique play in the area with a course designed to provide an exciting golfing experience for players of all levels. Beautiful oak trees and meandering streams give the golf course its character, with elevation changes, multi-tiered greens and challenging areas of forced carry-including water features-and areas of forced lay-up in a links-style course, especially on the front 9. The back 9 is a more traditional golf course. All of this combined with the Texas wind makes River Bend a formidable challenge for even scratch golfers. It's one of the only only true links courses in south Texas. The staff is super and the course is very affordable. River Bend Golf Club has a unique practice facility that features an aqua range with an island green. A large putting green makes the Maverick a super practice area.
Distance: About 33 miles southeast of downtown San Antonio and worth the trip. Take Rt 181 from the Southeast side of San Antonio. Located off the 181 business loop (4th street here in the city), coming north or south off Highway 181. The loop runs north and south, like Highway 181, and runs about 1/2 mile west of it. The course and facilities are located in the Avalon Subdivision.

Golf is the best game!
I have played this course before and it’s always fun. My wife had never played it until today and she really enjoyed the different scenery. The staff is great. We went over to Lew’s and ate and met the new owner and he was super friendly. The food was good. Prayers of blessings on this course and restaurant.
Worth it
For what it is, it’s great. It’s a course out away from the city in a small town. It’s not a high end course but still very much worth playing. The layout is fun one of the better designs for having a fun round of golf. It’s short for sure so 2/3 drivable par 4s if you can hit it about 265/270 off the tee from the whites. Par 5s are reachable in 2 most days but with well placed shots. The Par 3s for me each require a different club which I like, 9 iron thru 6 iron. You can have fun out here. Is it easy yeah I’d say so and the score card would agree but it’s not straight forward no character easy.
The greens are currently in fantastic shape. Areas around the greens are decent the fairways are decent in most spots. It’s a course to me is in good enough shape to still be fun with very nice greens.
If you want to play a course you haven’t played in a while or it’s new to you, it’s 100% worth it if you want a fun round.
River Bend GC San Antonio
Nice little course. A little crowded on a Saturday morning, but still enjoyable. Just be prepared to be patient waiting on a T box.
Dead grass
Every single fairway was rock hard. Dirt fairways everywhere. Hard to find your ball even when you hit it in the fairway. Greens were actually nice looking, but they were sanded and also rock hard. Not receptive greens. Luckily I got a hot deal to play here because I certainly would not pay regular fees to play here again.
golf
well it was in decent shape ground is hard in fairways but greens were in good shape. we enjoyed it
Felt like I had the course to myself
One single ahead of me, short waits played in 3:06.
Greens in Bad Shape
We were expecting the course to be in a lot better shape after the rain recently, but the greens were some of the worst in the San Antonio area. There were vehicle track marks on most of the greens and fairways were pretty rough overall. Probably won't be back for a while.
