Golfer Reviews
Not impressed
Based on the ratings for this course I expected a little more. The course condition is generally not good. Many bare spots. A lot of crabgrass in the fairways where the Bermuda has died out. #15 tee doesn't have a blade of grass on it (good luck getting a tee in the ground if it's not raining). The greens were really the only bright spot. All but a few were in good shape, reasonable speed and smooth for the most part. The front nine is flat with a few interesting holes, very playable. The back is a nightmare starting with #12. Possibly in the top ten of worst designed par fives anywhere. 15 thru 17 are just poorly designed holes. They tried to get creative in the hills but the results were not good. Pace of play was horrendous. Almost 3 hours to play the back. We made the 4th group on the 14th hole when we pulled up and it's a par 3. Price was about right for what we got on this trip since we only paid the cart fees. We traveled over an hour to get there. If you have to travel more than 25 minutes don't do it. Many other courses in the area that are nicer and a better value. Not likely to return given the travel time. If they ever get their Bermuda back on the fairways and tees it might deserve a better rating. They have a long way to go. Sorry.. Just my opinion.
Nice Time
This course is in okay condition. You can tell they are working to improve the course. The price is fair and the course is nice. Will be back!
Great potential
Nice course with a good layout. Front 9 is fairly flat and the back 9 has a lot of elevation changes. You don't need to hit the driver much on the course. Here are some thoughts on the course:
Pros:
Every hole was different. Course is laid out nicely.
Bunkers were well maintained
Course guide was very helpful since this was my first time playing this course.
Club house/restaurant staff
Cons:
Greens had spots that were burned up as well as the fringe.
Fairways had bare spots as well as some tee boxes.
Rough was mainly crab grass.
Overall:
I drove 1:15 to play this course and I'm glad I did. It has great potential as the layout is beautiful and well thought out. You have to hit shots left to right as well as right to left. If the greens and fairways were a little bit better, then I would have give it a 4 star rating. The staff in the club house/restaurant were cordial.
Course was fun.
Fun course to play. Would definately recommend this to others. Had a great day.
Lot of Potential
Interesting layout. Good greens with a few poor spots. Fairways still need to finish filling in, but the bermuda is making progress. The price is very fair and you get what you paid for. The snack bar is still a work in progress. boiled hot dogs and burgers cooked ahead of time and left in warmers on the counter, not so good. Fries were cooked to order and were great. I arrived via IN 237 (very windy and slow) and they need at least one more directional sign after you arrive near the course. Overall a place to play again.
rough rough
I would have thought with all the rain we've had in this area there would be be more grass and less dirt in the fairway...of courses can't do anything about the weather which was hot and humid..I probably won't go back...
Fun Course and getting better all the time.
It's clear that the improvements Lucas Oil is doing are making a huge difference. Only a few holes still need work, but will get their due in time. Fairways are mostly good, greens are good, and the latout is fun.
Free Course Layout Book :)
A Free Course Lay Out was given to us, which was really helpful and a nice perk. There has been so much rain, it's difficult to maintain a golf course right now and the carts were on the path, which made this a long day.
Greens were in good shape, and the owners have made tremendous improvements over the past 2 years. Fairways are in still in need of a bunch of work.
There are really some holes with unique layouts, including elevation changes. It's a fun course to play. There is a bunch of distance from tee to green, don't ever try to walk this course. Beer specials in the bar.
Beautiful course considering!!!!
It was under water 3 days before!!!! Literally totally underwater!!!! The greens just looked like they had been a little beat up. Not underwater. Spots in the fairway we just had to play GUR 3 times each. I can't wait to play here when it hasn't been submerged underwater! There are some holes where you have to hit an iron. I knew this. Told my buddy where to hit them. He didn't listen to me the first time! Very challenging. I loved it!!!!
Cool clubhouse and a solid course
The first thing I noticed when I got to the course was how cheap the food was and how friendly the staff was. Had to start on the back nine because of the senior outing on Thursday. Some areas in the fairways were dead; and some of the sand bunkers were really not in good condition. You wind though half of English when traveling hole to hole! It's a beautiful course with a limestone filled creek running around the whole courseI traveled 2 hours from Indianapolis to play the course for 10 dollars off of golf now hot deals. Would do it every time!! If you can't catch a hot deal it's only 30 through out the week. Love this course, love the people, and will definitely will be back soon.
The course is coming around
Myself and a buddy played this course for the first time on a hot deal, well worth the money. We liked it enough to go back out for 9 more. The greens are in excellent shape and the fairways are coming around, there are a few bare spots but it's getting there. The pond needs some water in it, looks like they are getting ready to fill it. The staff was very friendly, we'll be back again.
course is coming along
Ever since Lucas oil took this course over, it has continued to improve drastically. I play this course at least 10 times a year. They're doing great things at this course, and it's well on its way to being one of the nicest courses in the area.
Good for the money, but....
Happened to catch a hit deal to play this course, so for the moment money, it was an excellent deal. However, it took over an hour to get to the course, and the courses condition was less than stellar. To some it up, due to the pace of play, distance I had to travel, and condition of the course, and wouldn't travel that distance again, even with a hot deal.
this course is located in a beautiful southern Indiana setting
the greens are some of the best I ever played on. the fairways were some of the worst. a lot dirt/no grass fairways may be from all the rain/flooding from earlier in the year....??
Pretty rough
The winter and spring have taken their toll on this course. The greens were in pretty good shape and challenging with unexpected breaks and speedy. The tee boxes and fairways were grassless. Just dirt and mud. Also, there are several blind shots that would be better handled after a few rounds. I hope they are able to repair the winter damage once the spring rains end.
Great view
A lot of improvements have been made. This is a course to play when you want to get away from it all and enjoy enjoy nature as well as a good course.
Neat, tight course:)
This was the second time I had played here, first for my wife. The way the course flows through town on the front is neat. Cart paths/ city streets. 4/7 tips gives a pretty view. The back 9 paths made my wife nervous at times, hills, :) leads to some more pretty views.
All in all had a great day. Then on the way home, stopped and ate at the Swartz Fam restaurant just down the road.
Icing....
Fun and Challenging Course
Fairways were still not in perfect shape, but not to the fault of the staff. Every course in Southern Indiana seemed to take a hit this year due to the harsh winter. Let me first say I LOVE NUMBER 4 & 7 from the BLACK tees. Even if you decide to play up on the white or blue tees, take a ride to the Black tees and play those holes from the tips. Forget your score or play it as a par 5 if you want. I believe they play 460yds from the Black. I promise you will thank me regardless of your score and take your phone or camera to take a few pics with the buddies from the tee box. The layout of the back 9 is challenging and also beautiful. New ownership has really done well. Greens were GREAT!! Even though it is an hour and a half drive for me, I will be back and I look forward to it.
Good course for your money!!!
I have played this course over the last 7 years. I must say that since Lucas has taken over the golf course thing are moving in the right direction. With new ownership in place you can see that some major money is being invested back into the improvements of the course. New carts, cart paths paved, new sand and I mean sand bunkers!!!! Still needs some things done but I must say that it is great course for the area and priced within reason. I'll be back and cant wait to see what's next.
