The course is coming around
Myself and a buddy played this course for the first time on a hot deal, well worth the money. We liked it enough to go back out for 9 more. The greens are in excellent shape and the fairways are coming around, there are a few bare spots but it's getting there. The pond needs some water in it, looks like they are getting ready to fill it. The staff was very friendly, we'll be back again.
course is coming along
Ever since Lucas oil took this course over, it has continued to improve drastically. I play this course at least 10 times a year. They're doing great things at this course, and it's well on its way to being one of the nicest courses in the area.
Good for the money, but....
Happened to catch a hit deal to play this course, so for the moment money, it was an excellent deal. However, it took over an hour to get to the course, and the courses condition was less than stellar. To some it up, due to the pace of play, distance I had to travel, and condition of the course, and wouldn't travel that distance again, even with a hot deal.
this course is located in a beautiful southern Indiana setting
the greens are some of the best I ever played on. the fairways were some of the worst. a lot dirt/no grass fairways may be from all the rain/flooding from earlier in the year....??
Pretty rough
The winter and spring have taken their toll on this course. The greens were in pretty good shape and challenging with unexpected breaks and speedy. The tee boxes and fairways were grassless. Just dirt and mud. Also, there are several blind shots that would be better handled after a few rounds. I hope they are able to repair the winter damage once the spring rains end.
Great view
A lot of improvements have been made. This is a course to play when you want to get away from it all and enjoy enjoy nature as well as a good course.
Neat, tight course:)
This was the second time I had played here, first for my wife. The way the course flows through town on the front is neat. Cart paths/ city streets. 4/7 tips gives a pretty view. The back 9 paths made my wife nervous at times, hills, :) leads to some more pretty views.
All in all had a great day. Then on the way home, stopped and ate at the Swartz Fam restaurant just down the road.
Icing....
Fun and Challenging Course
Fairways were still not in perfect shape, but not to the fault of the staff. Every course in Southern Indiana seemed to take a hit this year due to the harsh winter. Let me first say I LOVE NUMBER 4 & 7 from the BLACK tees. Even if you decide to play up on the white or blue tees, take a ride to the Black tees and play those holes from the tips. Forget your score or play it as a par 5 if you want. I believe they play 460yds from the Black. I promise you will thank me regardless of your score and take your phone or camera to take a few pics with the buddies from the tee box. The layout of the back 9 is challenging and also beautiful. New ownership has really done well. Greens were GREAT!! Even though it is an hour and a half drive for me, I will be back and I look forward to it.
Good course for your money!!!
I have played this course over the last 7 years. I must say that since Lucas has taken over the golf course thing are moving in the right direction. With new ownership in place you can see that some major money is being invested back into the improvements of the course. New carts, cart paths paved, new sand and I mean sand bunkers!!!! Still needs some things done but I must say that it is great course for the area and priced within reason. I'll be back and cant wait to see what's next.
Lucas Oil Golf Experience
This course has greatly improved since taken over by Lucas Oil and should continue getting better. They are working diligently to replace the bermuda grass lost from the harsh winter. They are currently redoing the sand traps that have not been playable in the past. This should be one of the better courses in the area when improvments are completed. Enjoy!
Interesting course
A fun challenging course with its scenic drives from green to tee on some holes.
Fun Course
Course is still recovering from harsh winter and spring rains but is now in pretty good shape. Greens are very nice -- a few fairways still have some rough spots; overall pretty nice. We always enjoy playing this course. Front 9 very flat, back 9 very hilly -- but all 18 are a challenge. Back 9 still has a number of bunkers that are unfilled (front 9 bunkers are very nice). Lucas continues to put $$'s into this course -- it's going to be very nice by next year.
A "thinking" course -- you'll probably get to hit every club in the bag. High;y recommend playing if you're in the area.
Great place to play
A great place to play good value for your money friendly people in the clubhouse
Needs help
Played this course last year and after reading bad reviews thought that the course was in good shape and was fun to play.
The bad reviews were right on this time.
Some of the tee boxes were closed, a lot of the fairways needed a lot of attention.
But for $10 for 18 holes riding I wouldn't complain much.
AWFUL, AWFUL, AWFUL
Being in Louisville (about 1 hour 20 minutes away) and knowing the Lucas name is associated with higher end products, we thought we would give this course a try. BIG MISTAKE. To start with the tee boxes were filled with crab grass and uneven, then the fairways were in such a state of disrepair that it was safer to hit in the rough. We finished the first nine holes in about 1 1/2 hours (having to play hole 4 TWICE due to hole 7 being closed, more on that later). We made the turn and teed off. We get to our second shots and see the green, BUT NO FLAG. There is a hole cut, but no flag anywhere to be seen. Hole 11 is a par 3 and we ride to it and notice no flag again! We then proceed to backtrack to the clubhouse and ask if the back nine is open to which we get a resounding NO. What makes it even worse is that the same person that checked us in was the one that told us the back nine was closed. You would think that sort of information should be told to golfers as they head out. So we decided to go ahead and mess around on the front nine again. All said and done there were a total of 8 holes YES EIGHT HOLES available to ply from an 18 hole course, and even the holes that were open should probably be closed for repair. VERY unsatisfied and would STAY FAR AWAY if you want to play golf.
Fun hot day
Need rain. It was a hot day. Everyone was friendly. I want to go back again soon.
This course is not ready for skilled players
This course while having an interesting layout needs a lot of work. Maybe next year things will be different
Greens excellent
Really had a good time-Green's were excellent-Fairways needed a little work but very fun course to play and will go back
Lucas Oil Golf course - don't let the name mislead you, this course is bad.
I played this course a few years ago and said I'd never play it again but, with the Lucas Oil name and website, it had to be better, right? Only thing better was the cart paths and newer carts, same horrible ground keeper and management staff.
I played this course in late June 2014, the fairways and tee boxes had more bare dirt than grass, the greens were painted to make them look good and to top it off, the staff was not very pleasant. I don't know what tie Lucas Oil has but, it definitely is notting to be proud of. I think it's more a watering hole for area residence than a golf course, and the staff seems to match that.
I've played lesser priced course hat were twice as nice as this one.
