Chehalem Glenn Golf Club
About
Chehalem Glenn Golf Club sprawls across beautifully hilly terrain, providing a course that is not for the faint of heart. The course is defined by the dramatic changes in elevation, which can make it tough to walk. The steep hills make this a tough golf course even for high handicappers. Uphill, downhill, and sidehill lies abound and you'll also face forced carries to narrow landing areas as well as blind layup shots. The more open front nine is player friendly and the back nine is where it gets tougher with mostly tree-lined holes and more strategically placed bunkers. The golf course is as scenic as it is challenging with elevated tees and greens that overlooks the surrounding hills and valleys. The beauty and difficulty of the course has built Chehalem Glenn Golf Club a reputation as one of the greater Portland area's must-play courses.

4th green. Pretty typical of the course. That’s my ball by the pin from about 190 yds. Not bad, made for eagle. Photo submitted by markmcnwa on 11/20/2019

Chehalem Glenn Golf Course Photo submitted by AllenGoodall on 09/08/2015
Great course for an advanced golfer.
From tee to green each hole produced challenges in areas of both distance and accuracy. The course had excellent flow throughout and offered beautiful views of the surrounding hills and valley.
Played this course many times before, it is not being maintained well.
Used to play this course frequently in the past three years. Bragged to some out of town friends what a nice course is is, went to play and was embarrassed by the conditions. May have played it for the last time unless I hear of great improvement.
Great course - especially at cost to play!!
Fun, but challenging course! Second time we've played it. Even more beautiful than remembered. Wish staying in this area longer to play it again - will have to wait until next year when we return to visit the area!!
Good condition, good value.
Greens were punched with really tiny tines and not cut that day. Slow and bumpy. Still shot 77, which with a slope of 140, is no small feat for an 8-hdcp. Overall, the course was in good condition. 8.5/10. The Golfnow deal with cart included was what sold me. The course is a difficult walk.
Much Improved Pace of Play
Pace of play has greatly improved since my last visit. Greens were riddled with ball marks that have not grown back but putted fairly true. Best hotdog I ever had. $56 with a cart is a little out of my range for me to be a more frequent visitor. Pond water needs attention.
A true gem.
One of the best in Oregon and the Portland area. National park like settings on the back 9.
challenging but fun.
I like to play this course. Its fun yet tests me every time I play. Great staff and the course is always in great condition.
Beautiful setting, but very challenging and unfair design.
Course is very unfair to everyone except the single digit players. Forced carries to narrow, small sidehill landing areas are the norm, Blind layup shots are also prevalent. The high slope ratings are well deserved...similar to Ko'oalu in Hawaii. 4 1/2 hour+ rounds.
great challenge, lots of forced carries, and blind shots.
Don't even think about walking this course.
lots of hills, and long walks between tees.
Sand on both sides of fairway from 175-220 on almost every hole.
elevated greens make for blind approach shots.
not a beginners best choice
I enjoyed myself, and will return.
Very challenging course
This course is pretty tough, rates about 74-140 from the blue tees. It's a very hilly tract, with similar up and downs like those at Stone Creek. It's mostly tree lined, with a couple of open holes on the front side.
The greens are very undulated, hardly any flat putts. The condition of greens was not great, don't think wet May helped. Hopefully they will heal up quickly.
I would highly recommend this course, though high handicappers will certainly struggle.
Good, Challenging Course.....LONG Round
I personally really like Chehalem. Their greens are good for a public course, a bit bumpy but still maintained well, as is the rest of the course. It is a challenge to stay in the 70's from the blues/blacks for a mid single digit handicap. This round was not particularly enjoyable as the course was extremely backed up. We did not tee off untill 15 minutes after our tee time and proceeded to wait 35 minutes on the first whole while the group ahead(a family foursome) tried their best to avoid the water below and water left to no avail. The Marshall helped speed along play by asking them to skip the rest of the whole. This expedited the process but I we still waited on every tee box.
Would definitely play again, just avoid peak hours as it will be very slow.
Hilly Challenging Course
The course setting very hilly making for a challenging layout. There are many fariway as well as greenside traps on the course. On several holes you need to hit over cravaces and hit to layup areas in tight spaces. This is not a course for a beginning golfer. You can play the course many times as i have and not be bored with the layout. As a result of the course difficulty, the pace of play is slow at times. I always take a cart of this course. I enjoy the course.
A challenging golf course!
The course was in great shape. The greens were the fastest I've played this winter. It was forecast to rain, but it was clear. I was the only golfer for most of the morning and played 18 holes in 3 hours, walking.
Hilly, challenging course
Difficult to walk, so a cart is a must. Given the traffic hassles to get there, it's a bit overpriced unless a golfnow "Hot Deal" is used. Like most courses in the valley, very little sand was used in construction, so it drains poorly in the winter. But in the summer, it's a blast.
A bit overpriced but a nice layout
I'ts overpriced if you pay full green fees, especially after negotiating traffic to get there. Nice, challenging layout, but soft and not a good winter course. Back nine is quite hilly, so older players will need a cart.
great course
This is truly great course and we enjoyed very much.
Course was in great condition and course is challenging.
Pretty hilly in couple holes.
One of the best course in Great Portland area.
We definitely want to come back.
It's a very challenging course, missed tee shot from the back tees will be a hard par.
Oregon at this time of the year has more rain than sunshine, the course has some soft spots on fairways but the greens are still in good playable and fast condition.
The course had just been sanded heavily, but everything else was great!
I had a great time walking the course. they are working hard to keep it in good shape. The greens were sandy, but the courses is still a fun place to play.
Good value, playable, and has a hilly back 9
This is a lovely course & I've played twice here this summer . The price is right, the course is in good shape. Staff was very friendly and even had a woman marshal, which was nice to see. The holes are challenging enough without being punishing. The back 9 is far more hilly than the front and I was glad to be carting. I like that it's outside of Portland but not so far I won't drive down to play. Don't expect a grand club house or restaurant, and if you want a sandwich at the turn, call ahead.
Great Course
I play OGA often because it is a great meeting place 1/2 way between my golfing partner and I. It is a challenging course. It plays long in the summer, and holds up to the winter rain well.
