Chehalem Glenn Golf Club
About
Chehalem Glenn Golf Club sprawls across beautifully hilly terrain, providing a course that is not for the faint of heart. The course is defined by the dramatic changes in elevation, which can make it tough to walk. The steep hills make this a tough golf course even for high handicappers. Uphill, downhill, and sidehill lies abound and you'll also face forced carries to narrow landing areas as well as blind layup shots. The more open front nine is player friendly and the back nine is where it gets tougher with mostly tree-lined holes and more strategically placed bunkers. The golf course is as scenic as it is challenging with elevated tees and greens that overlooks the surrounding hills and valleys. The beauty and difficulty of the course has built Chehalem Glenn Golf Club a reputation as one of the greater Portland area's must-play courses.

4th green. Pretty typical of the course. That’s my ball by the pin from about 190 yds. Not bad, made for eagle. Photo submitted by markmcnwa on 11/20/2019

Chehalem Glenn Golf Course Photo submitted by AllenGoodall on 09/08/2015
Tough course
This is not an easy course for a high handicapper. Very well maintained and greens were fast.
Tough greens
Very fast, lots of undulations, one temporary green on back side. Some other course work going on, but otherwise it was a great course to play. The 15 bucks per person for a cart (18 holes) seems high, but not having a cart makes for a long day. The 18 hole walk across all that elevation change (and there is a lot) wouldn't be as much fun as with a cart.
Beautiful, Challenging, Novice beware!
This is a beautiful course, one of the nicest in the Portland area, and an excellent value - greens fees are half what you would expect to pay at comparable courses.
Greens and fairways are well maintained and the course stays reasonably playable even in our Pacific Northwest rainy season - a boon for the all-seasons golfer like myself.
For the intermediate-advanced amateur, this is a true challenge. From the back tees, a true 72 rating. Plenty of risk/reward shots and course management strategy plays a major role here.
But this course will eat the unsuspecting novice alive. If you don't have a trustworthy 185+ yard club off the tee, you'll be visiting a lot of drop zones (which are not nearly as well groomed as the rest of the course).
The course is also physically challenging to walk with lots of deep ravines to cross - I recommend riding your first time - they have very nice power carts.
I was a little disappointed in recent changes made to the 9th hole. It used to be a truly monstrous par 4 requiring a precisely shaped, 220+ yard draw off the tee followed by a long approach to a very elevated and well guarded green to get home in two. It used to be Chahalem Glenn's signature hole and if you ever managed to par it, you knew you had accomplished something truly special.
Facilities are clean and neat, staff are friendly folk, and there is a good driving range and practice green.
course was under repair
I would have appreciated it if at check in I was told that the course's fairways were being plugged since I was only able to play 16 holes but paid for 18. This should have been advertised on the web site.
feels like a mountain course
lots of steep hills, challenging holes , difficult to walk but i enjoyed the challenge, except for a weird par 5 #12 that seems to make no sense
Very challenging beautiful course
Most challenging public course around. Very well priced and well kept. Really enjoy playing this course!
This is a Full featured Coursee.
I liked it a lot,. the staff is very friendly and helpful. Course is in good shape,.Would be a hard walk for seniors with any walking problems. There are lots of elevation changes, long carries over gullies and sensitive Area. The views of great scenery are good. For Walkers in the spring the course is very soft, and in some places muddy.
Great shape
Beautiful day with course conditions to match. Limited restroom facilities and no water on course are the only negatives. Spendy for winter rates but in such good condition on a well designed course that it was worth it.
Fun course to play!
Very fun course to play. Holes 6, 9, 11, 12 are tricky off the tee. Well drained in the winter when you can also get some good deals.
Nice course!
1st time playing here, the course is very well maintained. Greens were recently aerated, and were a bit bumpy. Very pretty, scenic back nine. Look forward to playing here again soon.
Nice and hilly
Greens were sanded some patchy no grass areas fairways nice they gave us a 25% coupon off our next play in October only still good we plan on playing again before the end of October
Beautiful course, good value
My wife, her sister and her husband, and myself, played the course on 8/27/13, and had a great time. The course was in very good shape. There are a couple of holes that are a bit long for the average golfer, and acouple that are laid out strangely, but, overall it is a very beautiful, and enjoyable course. We would definitely play the course again!
Great course for an advanced golfer.
From tee to green each hole produced challenges in areas of both distance and accuracy. The course had excellent flow throughout and offered beautiful views of the surrounding hills and valley.
Played this course many times before, it is not being maintained well.
Used to play this course frequently in the past three years. Bragged to some out of town friends what a nice course is is, went to play and was embarrassed by the conditions. May have played it for the last time unless I hear of great improvement.
Great course - especially at cost to play!!
Fun, but challenging course! Second time we've played it. Even more beautiful than remembered. Wish staying in this area longer to play it again - will have to wait until next year when we return to visit the area!!
Good condition, good value.
Greens were punched with really tiny tines and not cut that day. Slow and bumpy. Still shot 77, which with a slope of 140, is no small feat for an 8-hdcp. Overall, the course was in good condition. 8.5/10. The Golfnow deal with cart included was what sold me. The course is a difficult walk.
Much Improved Pace of Play
Pace of play has greatly improved since my last visit. Greens were riddled with ball marks that have not grown back but putted fairly true. Best hotdog I ever had. $56 with a cart is a little out of my range for me to be a more frequent visitor. Pond water needs attention.
A true gem.
One of the best in Oregon and the Portland area. National park like settings on the back 9.
challenging but fun.
I like to play this course. Its fun yet tests me every time I play. Great staff and the course is always in great condition.
Beautiful setting, but very challenging and unfair design.
Course is very unfair to everyone except the single digit players. Forced carries to narrow, small sidehill landing areas are the norm, Blind layup shots are also prevalent. The high slope ratings are well deserved...similar to Ko'oalu in Hawaii. 4 1/2 hour+ rounds.
