Hawk Ridge Golf and Country Club - Hawk's Island
About
Hawk Ridge Golf & Country Club offers two 18-hole courses and one par-3, executive course. The golf courses are spread across nearly 400 acres of ponds and mature forests. Hawk’s Island is the nine-hole course, situated southeast of the other 36 holes at the club. The terrain is mostly flat but there is some undulation in the large, bent grass greens. The signature hole of the golf course is No. 5, which requires a downward approach shot to a tricky island green that is flanked by bunkers on both sides. The Hawk’s Island Course is ideal for juniors or beginners, but it is also great for golfers who just want a quick but challenging round.

Course marshal
Excellent Covid-19 controls in place...good work.
One hour to play first 3 holes due to foursome not playing ready golf, looking for lost balls etc yet fully aware of twosome (us) waiting behind them on every shot.
Passed them by jumping from hole 4 to hole 5 and completed the remaining 14 holes holes in 2 hours...so still a great day. NOTE: It's now 8:00PM...You may want to send someone out there...they may still be there.
Little talk from a marshal might have made things move better.
Love the courses and the staff..will be back
Fantastic Staff and Facility
Always have a lot of fun here on either Course. Both layouts offer nice amounts of doglegs, hazards and positional play off the tee. The Staff is enthusiastic and genuinely happy that you're onsite which is a huge advantage. Practice Facilities are tops in Simcoe/Muskoka. Price point for a 36hole facility is to ride or walk is also great.
Having spent 15yrs in the Business with 5 of them as a Superintendent, I'm expressing the following in a completely constructive manner. The putting greens are in serious need of light frequent topdressings to go with all the vertical mowing. Ive been there 3wks in a row on friday afternoon and the greens are soft and puffy which leads me to think they're overwatering to be safe. A frequent combination of slightly higher mowing, vertical mowing, topdressing and rolling early in the week would quickly turnaround a lot of the recent reviews and could also cutdown on the water.
I will be back out mid afternoon this friday regardless because of everything in the first paragraph of the review. Ultimately I hope these reviews make it to the right people.
Thanks
It is not worth the $80.00 to play (including cart/taxes)
I played the Timber course and this is not an $80.00 green fee golf course due to conditioning and degree of difficulty. There is not much to think about when playing the course as there is not a lot of consideration to be made on placement shot making or processing mental yardage for the next approach shot as the course is not that long or troublesome. You will some sort of winter kill or ?? on every tee block, green and or fairway. There are weeds in the fairways and divot repair is not maintained. The rough is thin (lack of grass) in areas. The greens have very little undulation and in need of cutting and rolling. There are replacement hole positioning found on most greens as well as members and the playing public are not interested in repairing ball marks. I understand they did have an issue with the greens in the past year. That being said, other courses I have played overcame these issues and rebuilt greens within a years time. I am in no rush to back this year and certainly would not buy a membership considering the COVID restrictions in place. Incidentally, the golf carts are old and tired re-confirming this is not worth the $80.00 experience.
staff
Very friendly staff. Made us welcome and were all helpful when asked a question.
Course was in very good shape, greens a little slow but gave a true roll.
Would definitely play again as the variety of the holes made the play very interesting and enjoyable.
A little disappointing
We played here 3 weeks ago. It didn’t live up to expectations. We chose Meadows Nest as it’s the 18 that doesn’t go through a housing development, unlike Timber Ridge. Overall it was a decent day — great staff, good COVID procedures, course layout/routing was good, and the fairways were fine. The greens and tee boxes however were not. We played the whites and while the other tee boxes looked fine, the whites were chewed up beyond belief. We had a mid morning tee time so the extent of the damage can’t be solely attributed to players ahead of us. They were really bad. As for the greens, there were some sketchy conditions. As I understand it, they had some significant “issues” with the greens last year, so maybe it’s a case of them still coming back, but most were not what I’d call nice greens.” I’d play it again but not this year; MAYBE next year
First Time Here
I had played the Timber Ridge course at Hawk Ridge a few times and have always heard the Meadow Nest was the better of the two so was excited to play it. The course was in good shape although the damage from the greens that ravished the course last year was still very evident on some holes. Overall the course plays well and offers a challenging experience while still forgiving for those refining the game. Lack of Beverage cart on a day with temperatures reaching low 30's was very disappointing. I still like the Timber Ridge better as I feel it has more holes with character. Meadow Nest appears to be a lot of the same hole with little elevation change or obstacles requiring you to alter how you attack the holes (same club off tee followed by same mid irons into green etc) where I found Timber Ridge to cause you to think a bit more about how to play the hole. All in all though an enjoyable experience and I look forward to playing either course again in the near future, just maybe a day when not quite as hot lol.
Big Test
Very challenging layout. Greens good size . Sand traps very soft. A few water hazards, enough to make things interesting.
Nice course
Unfortunately golf now purchase no longer includes a cart.
Course is in good shape, greens are good, bunkers need some work though could use so new ssnd but overall the course is in good shape
Great Day
The course was better than last year when they only had temp greens. Greens were slow so good for me. The pro shop didn't have our reservation from Golf Now even though I called it in not booking it online. They fit us in and let us play anyways. The staff is always great there. The Golf Now tee times show walking but the one we got was with a cart. Golf Now needs to get their listings correct They are losing bookings.
Missed my round
While I enjoy this course, I missed my round. I woke up with a mild fever and overall feeling of illness. Given the current climate, I thought it best to not play. I tried to re book the round but because it was a hot deal it was out of the question. An unfortunate way to lose $110.00 but it is what it is I guess.
Going down hill
This course is in bad shape right now. Nothing us cut and greens are insane slow. I think it will get better but it needs some work and some money put into it. Always great layout and potential is there.
Great value
Friendly staff and starter, pace of play is very good. Challenging for intermediate player but rewarding.
Golf now price was excellent for the value and quality of the course.
Will return again.
Heck of a Batch at Hawk Ridge
We golfed 9 holes to kick off my good friends Bachelor party. It was a perfect day for a round and the course was in great shape. We were kept well hydrated by the beer cart and the pro shop. We all rented carts. These were in great shape and easy to drive. Made for a fantastic start to our weekend. Friendly staff, well maintained course and great location for a getaway.
The coarse was very disjointed as far as the layout.
The coarse had more par 3s then I like and the sand traps were lacking sand.
Do not think I will play it again
I doubt your comments. Course is in great shape considering the heat wave they just went through. I guess you didn’t play well
Nonsense, I played this week and everything finally looks good,
