Challenging for a Novice like myself which I liked.
This course is one of 3 within 10 km of where I live and is probably the one I prefer the most. It is a challenge for a novice, with a lot of 300 plus yard par 4’s but most fairways are wide and level. The greens are not level but somewhat flat which I find adds to the game. Pace of play always depends upon the people playing and at Roanoke the players are all friendly and when I am golfing on my own I am never held up.
Love this Local Course.
Course review
Played the course a few times over the years...found the course well looked after but needs work, also found the owner to be a bit arrogant, compared to twin rivers, pembroke shores, white tail, Cobden and both renfrew a courses it’s a joke. If you go when it first opens bring your high rubber boots as it was built on a swamp. One good thing the price is right!
My Best Round Yet
Played this course again and it has become one of my favorites. The fairways have dried out more since my last round and the greens are in excellent shape.
The conditions were just right for playing and it showed in my score, it was my lowest this season yet. I BROKE 90!!!
I would recommend this course to anyone who from beginner to advanced as it offers a challenging yet forgiving fairway to green experience. Once one gets to know the course it becomes less of a challenge and more of a fun skill game to place the next shot for approach to the green.
The greens are in excellent condition and play quickly at times, depending on the weather. There are some tricky hole placements and not all are straight putts to the hole. This makes it interesting and enjoyable reading the greens to prove your skill on the dance floor...
I would really recommend this course.
Amazing Course. Easy but a challenge.
Amazing course to play. Easy to play but still a challenge. Long and wide fairways, some not level greens, plenty of different obstacles to keep your brain working shot to shot. I have worked at a golf course in the past and know what it takes to keep one in shape so kudos to all the workers at Roanoke. This course is easily in my top 10 and maybe in the top 5 for best public course I have played in the past 20 years.
Roanoke--Great Course
This little golf course comes in big with some challenging holes and well maintained greens. It plays well for beginner to advanced players. The greens can be a bit challenging, but are a true pleasure to putt.
If you like to walk the course then this is an easy place to do so. Relatively flat fairways and a few hills and valleys to negotiate -- easy walking. Golf carts are available too if you prefer to drive the course.
The only drawback is that it can be a wet fairway even a day or two after a heavy rain. The cart traffic on the wet fairways has caused a few ruts and might cause problems finding your ball. All in all not every fairway is like this though.
It is a well groomed course with plenty of forgiveness for errant missed shots. Most golfers would enjoy playing this course with it's long par 5's and tricky par 4 dog-legs.
Overall, I would definitely recommend this course to anyone who enjoys an good round of golf.
