Tangle Creek Golf & Country Club

       About
Tangle Creek Golf & Country Club has an interesting layout that combines classic, links-style holes with parkland holes, meaning that there is a mix of open fairways lined with mounding and fescue and tight, tree-lined holes with dramatic elevation changes. Ponds and creeks throughout the golf course come into play on 10 holes and there are almost 50 sand bunkers strategically placed throughout. The front nine is mostly links-style holes with sloping greens and a creek cutting through the fairways. Tangle Creek Golf & Country Club’s back nine plays 300 yards longer than the front nine holes, offering many challenging par 4s and par 5s. There are many scenic holes on the course, including the par-5 opening hole, which plays down a valley then climbs up to a green that is perched atop a hill.

This is Golf Course where a major golf tournament should be held amongst a group of freinds that often play together
This is a great golf course with tough elevation changes, dog legs, some narrow fairway landing areas, lakes and such. No way to walk it without collapsing. We played from the blacks which were playing up and somehow we missed the "bite" that this course is capable of because many par 4's gotten shortened quickly. Play from the golds otherwise the course plays like only 6,000 yards. Its a must play with great conditioning. Too much top dressing on the greens when we played but this is required unfortunately after airation. So greens are a bit slower than expected. Its an hour drive for me, but I wouldn't do it again unless there was a special occassion to go out that way. I'll try the gold or platinum tees next time to really see what this course offers even though I expect it to give me a severe beating.
Excellent Golf Course
One of my best golf games played anywhere this year. If you love golf and a challenge, you will want to play a round of golf at Tangle Creek.
Very friendly and helpful staff. Leave the GPS at home, the battery powered carts come with the laptop sized screen GPS layout of the course with detailed yardage to green, hazards and any carts that are ahead you. Nice use of technology!
Excellent course, fun day!
A tough though fair tract not necessarily for a beginner.
Well this course certainly lives up to it's name. TANGLE ! From the opening tee shot the great vistas start while demonstrating it's teeth. The first is a long hole from elevated tee boxes not one but four sets at varying heights and angles to a right to left sloped fairway. Thick rough(grass) and then fescue follow the many undulating contours of the fairway from tee to green. Greens were a good size well trapped and even with recent aeration different levels and ridges added to difficulty in putting well. Must re visit when greens have grown back in from aeration to really see how they really roll. Long forced carries from all tee boxes are common over water deep fescue and marsh prevail. Blind shots and layups abound through out the eighteen holes, definitely need to be on your toes/game for every hole as each will challenge. Having said all this, the GPS on carts, provided needed help by giving good measurements to carry hazards, ends and beginnings of fairways and sand, playing without would not be enjoyable. Although it showed me the real condition of my game it was fun to play and the challenge did make it a very enjoyable round. The score card suggests tee boxes based on an accurate handicap not one we may think we have, play from the correct tee for your ability, if needed use 1-2 more clubs for the many changes elevations tee, fairways, greens, winds and move it forward if need be to enjoy the round otherwise it could be a frustrating walk in the park. Pace of play was slow in part due to the difficulty of the course, numbers of golfers, tee boxes used day of play and perhaps golfers playing from wrong tee boxes. Loosing a ball is not a rare occurrence given the slopes of the fairways, thick rough, fescue and sometimes long carries from all tee boxes. Play within your ability and the challenges will provide an enjoyable round.
Good course, great value.
Third time we've enjoyed this track this year. Good test, well maintained.
Nice course, little pricey!
Greens were just aerated but we knew that going in. Good pace, challenging holes, well maintained.
Very Challenging
Very challenging course. Excellent condition. Can't wait
                to play again.
Beautiful course!
The course was awesome and greens were super fast! Took my husband there for his birthday and it was well worth the money. Made a nice getaway jaunt for overnite.
We visited the pub/bar in the clubhouse after and this is the only complaint we had for the day. Food was less than average to say the least. Hard to believe you can mess up a BLT but there was no butter, mayo on the bread and it wasn't even toasted light brown. Someone in the kitchen must've been having a bad hair day.
Very Challenging and enjoyable experience.
Tangle Creek is a very challenging course that provides both risk and reward. The course is in excellent shape and the staff go out of their way to ensure your golf experience is top shelf. Tangle Creek provides a high end golfing experience at a reasonable cost.
Very Challenging!
Really enjoyed this course except for the refreshment service. Difficult to get food or refreshments after nine because of slow service, went back out very hungry because we didn't want to slow down pace of play.
Otherwise golf course was outstanding and well maintained...would go back again.
Great layout with many challanging holes requiring accurate long drives in order to clear waste areas around Tangle Creek!
Very nice club house and cordial staff. Course was in excellant condition, plays tough and longer then actual yardage. Requires long and well placed drives in order to clear hazards comfortably.
see below
The course is a pleasure to play. The staff are good. Howeer, the course needs better management of playing times. This is not the first time I have ever played thiis course. Perhaps having a few martials at key areas of the course that plug up would help move the game along. Alternatively, it is not uncommon for some courses to ask players to pick up their play.
great coarse in great shape
Tangle should score higher. It inst thier fault it,s Joe Public not fixing thier ball marks and some people ahead of us draging thier feet on the greens.how many extra putts had to be made because of the shape.
Great course but slow play.
I always enjoy playing this course, it's very well kept for the amount of golfers who play this in a day. The course always brings a challenge with fast greens and tight fairways, not to mention the fact that you need to keep the ball in play to have a chance at the green with fescue and EPA on most of holes.
Great course and I would recommend it to anyone up for the challenge.
However, I do believe the slow play needs to be addressed. 5 1/2 hour round for a two some is too long. I do understand that we were playing behind a few 4 somes but the marshals need to do a better job in keeping the pace of play. Most holes thought the round we waited up to 15min per hole waiting to tee off. On the 18th there were 4 cart and 8 guys watching each other hit on to the green from the fairway, we then had to watch 8 guys putt out. Left a bit of a bad tasted due to playing behind it all day.
I would never come back to this course
Ridiculous slow play at first hole. Starter didn't do anything to speed up, put later tee time ahead of us without asking. Then, every hole we have to wait 8-10 minutes. I have never been to a course with 45 min delay. Adding the 20 min late start, it was over an hour late. That would only happen in a tournament. What was the marshal doing? He was aware of the situation from the first two holes.
Course Clean
Course is kept clean, but needs to stop bugging players to keep up to pace. GPS on cart would say 14 minutes behind 1 second and next say 5 minutes ahead. Annoying!
hilly terrain, challenging tiered greens.
Difficult golf course, you must have your B+ game and stay on the fairways . Hole layouts very diversified with interesting elevation changes on some. Must play more than once to get a feel for the course, especially the greens.
Nice layout - too many ball marks!!
Tangle is a nice layout with enough fairway to play and rough that is punishing. Greens are a good size and good speed. No fun to play after a long day of play as the greens were a ball mark mess. Too many tournament hacks that don't care enough to fix their marks.
Tangle Creek is a good value for money.
Coming from Toronto, Tangle Creek is the farthest that I would want to drive for a round (given cottage country traffic) but it was well worth it. The greens were quick but a little patchy. The fairways were very well maintained. The fescue is very penalizing but it has been trimmed back (or so I am told) to increase the speed of play. Nearly every hole is interesting. For $50 twilight with cart, it is well worth it.
Great Course
Not for the weak or faint of heart. Beautiful course with many very challenging holes and a joy to play
Great course with challenging holes
the courses is in great shape and so are the greens. there are some challenging holes, but that is golf. thoroughly enjoyed my round. May play there again, only if it wasn't an hour's drive.
