P.A.R. Country Club
About
This course stands out among the small-town courses of this region for two reasons: it’s very demanding, and it has one of the better layouts you’ll find. The course rolls through the hills on the banks of Proctor Area Recreational Lake, and while the lake doesn’t come into play on any holes, there are seven ponds scattered throughout the course, many strategically placed in front of greens. The medium-sized fairways are tree-lined and there are only a few dogleg fairways.
Your best scoring opportunities are on the much-more-forgiving front nine. The first two holes are among the easiest on the course. No. 1 is a 282-yard par 4 that offers the chance to drive the green, and No. 2 is a short par 3. Work your way through moderately difficult holes 3-7; the easier Nos. 8 and 9 will then give you the chance to wrap up the front in style.
The back nine can destroy your round, particularly holes 13 and 14. From the tips, No. 17 plays 583 yards and is listed as the number one handicap. By the time you reach 18, you’ll be glad to see the short par 4 under 300 yards.
The only negative might possibly be the average condition of the greens, but as a whole, this course is a must-play if you’re in the area.
Getting there : From I-20 driving east, take Hwy 36 east, then take Hwy 377 (Hwy 67) north. Turn left at the Proctor Dam and PAR sign and drive about 2 miles. Turn left on the paved road to the entrance gate.

I got so many bad lies today even though I hit 10 fairways today, when you’d putt on the green and it would hit a bunch of bumps and were very slow, not worth playing here for $40
Stress conditions
The course was stressed because of the drought we are experiencing. Understand that they are probably doing all they can under these conditions.
Rough conditions
Understand how the extreme heat can hurt a course. The greens were slow & had dead spots.. hard to score well on the course.
