First Impressions are import unfortunately

I quite like Harbour golf course but also like to hit the driving range before teeing off. I heard that some nets were added so thought we would come back and play.

Loaded up some grandkids (teenagers) and drove 90 minutes to the course, it what was looking like a perfect day. We arrived about 50 minutes early which is perfect for me as I like to stretch and hit a bunch of balls and do some putting before teeing off.

The woman at the counter said we were much too early to check in and she was busy checking in the guests that are here to golf now. As I look around the pro-shop I see we are the only ones there but ok whatever. Once we were back outside and one of my grandsons said, “Welcome to Harbour GC”. It was their first visit and an unfortunate welcome.

At about 35 minutes before tee time and we are getting bored waiting I go into the again empty shop and ask again as we want to load our clubs and go hit some balls. The nets and putting green are near the first hole and a bit away from the parking lot so it seemed silly to walk them over and then come back. This time she says quite strongly, “I DON’T CHECK PEOPLE IN UNTIL 10 MINUTES BEFORE TEE TIME!” A bit taken aback as in 30 years golfing, I have never had to wait until 10 minutes to tee time as it would be cutting it close to get the carts all loaded and get to the first hole, obviously with no warmup. I asked her why they would have the nets and putting green if you aren’t given enough time to use them and I went back out to let my family know we had to wait.

I am not sure if she thought about what I said or just remembered that surveys are sent out but after a minute or two she came out to say we could now check in.

Also I am not sure now if this was accidental or not but one of our carts ran out of charge on hole two.

I rated the staff average as everyone else we encountered was awesome and more than helpful. When your initial contact is such a negative it starts the day poorly, luckily it got better.

New Golfer

I just moved to Elbow. I started golfing last year and really enjoy it so far. Twilight golf is great for beginners. It was nice to take my time and appreciate the game and beautiful scenery. $33 for 9 holes is reasonable.

Harbor Golf At Elbow

Cons - Poor signage and signage locations. 2 blind par 3 holes. 1 totally blind par 4, cannot see the fairway or the green so just guessing on direction. Also dangerous, GPS on carts would be helpful. No refreshment cart.

Pros - Despite hot dry conditions fairways are mostly good and the greens were excellent and consistent. Basic carts, but were clean, quiet and in good shape. Front nine is walkable, but recommend cart for back nine.

Fantastic course on the Lake

Excellent course that allows you to use driver off the tee if you want to get cheeky with the greens on par 4s. You leave the big stick in the bag and play conservatively without being penalized for distance on approaches. The short par 3s are a challenge being tucked away behind trees and shrubbery. Overall and excellent course that’s completely walkable.

Friendly staff

Right from the proshop to the starter and all the way to the attendant cleaning clubs on 18, the staff showed enthusiasm for their work and a smile for all the golfers.
