I'm a fan of Winding Ridge.
Rode 18 holes. The greens and tee boxes were in good shape. Fairways were mostly good. 4.5 hour round. I'll be back.
Winding Ridge
We golf at Winding Ridge on April 27 and in spite of 5he windy conditions, my son and I had an enjoyable time. We’ll be back
Winding Ridge Delivers
While the weather, primarily the wind, created a challenge, the speed of play and the memory created with family at Winding Ridge was sweet.
Expected better for the Cost
Biggest things I look for in a course is course quality and condition. At $50, I expected much more.
Greens: fairly consistent roll, but areas of patchiness
Fairways: Grass coverage was good (some thin spots OK)
Tee boxes: not level, very chewed up, difficult to find a comfortable spot to tee from
Bunkers: Sand was basically concrete. Bunkers were the worse I’ve played in my 3 years of golf.
On the plus side, staff was super friendly and the clubhouse cheeseburger was delicious.
Very accommodating
Sharon in the pro shop was great! Our #4 player couldn’t make it until hole #5. She gave him a cart to ride out and meet us which we were able to return at the turn.
The course was leaf-free for the most part. The fairways and greens, particularly the back 9 look great - and several are quite challenging - even from the senior tees
Condition
Course was in decent condition, considering the lack of rain this summer. Would definitelygo back
Might want to play in Spring
Most of the areas off the fairways are dry and scorched grass. The fairways are plagued with crabgrass and goosegrass. The greens have dead patches on most of them. The cups were torn up and a couple needed to be installed flush as the cups have a ridge/ramp that was about 1-2 inches around the cup. The greens and fairways were a bit soggy in places due to not draining well. So if I do play it again, will try for the Spring or during the wet season when the rough will not be cart path hard.
In regards to the course and layout, the use of trees being directly in the way was a nice touch along with the water hazards. The mounds were kinda inconsistent, some holes, like #10, had a ton of mounds while others had a couple of just ones by the greens. Not sure if that depression on #16 used to be a sand trap that just retained water and they gave up and just let weeds grow there instead.
The employee checking us in was absolutely terrible. Very confrontational. He wouldn't give us a cart stating we were to early even though there were plenty of carts available. Argued with one of our players about the cost of play that we had previously purchased through golf now. The rough was too high it was hard to find your ball even around the greens slowing down play. I won't play there again.
Great course
The course was in good condition. Challenging but not crazy hard. Sand traps need some work, several were holding water. Overall, I would recommend it.
