Management
Course is ok. Price is fair. But staff is not good. They don't know how to take care customer. Staff's knowledge is so poor. Once you play here is not bad, but you'll never come back again.
Always pleasant, great conditions. Very walkable.....
As noted a bit narrow but always fair, rewards good shots and demands some thought on almost every hole. Good variety. Local knowledge or previous play a must on a few holes....
Played in a walking threesome which became four on the back as pace was a little slow (4 hrs 20) on a beautiful afternoon.
Good Track
The course overall was great. Very tight course but everything is pretty much in front of you. For a public track, the greens were in great shape.
The only downside was I booked a 4some for $65 per player, which included a cart. When I checked in to the pro shop, I was charged $88. After showing them the email confirmation and the price of $65 they still didn't except the price right away. After going back and forth, they finally realized the mistake. Instead of refunding the card and starting over, he gave me $11 back(still not correct but wasn't going to go any further with it) I would have had no problem paying $88 because I thought it was worth it but they should honor the golfnow pricing.
Nice track good value
Excellent turf conditions, strategic Silva design, reasonable price, save a bit by using golfnow.
Narrow and Challenging Course
I'd never heard of this course before I saw it on golfnow but what a great course! It's a very narrow course and is a shot maker's course. Not a long course from the black tees, which are their whites tees, but definitely some course strategy involved. Definitely a course that sets up for someone who hits it straight or with a gentle fade (for right-handed golfers) but if you have a big draw or hook, it could be a long day. Most of the trouble on this course is left and long. But overall, I would definitely come back to play this course again.
Narrow and challenging, really good public access course
Pleasantly surprised by the quality and challenge of this NH gem. Early season conditions prevailed which is why I voted 4 instead of 5 on course condition. A 4 1/2 hour round is understandable on Memorial Day weekend, but would be a negative if it occurred during the week. My wife and I will definitely return.
Want to play it again !
Found this course on a whim for $22 including cart 2 hrs before I teed off. I was paired up with 3 other who did not know the course as well so it was an adventure for all of us. The fairways were extremely tight so ball placement was very important. There were many holes where you would hit a good drive on the fairway and you would have a difficult shot to the green. Now that I have the initial knowledge of the course I will want to play it again next time I visit NH in September. The rough was decent and not to hard to get out of and the greens were in great shape. I took a cart because it came with the booking but would definitely walk it the next time.
First-timer
My first time on-course at BH, and in spite of unexpected rain, newly aerated greens, playing terribly, and nearly taking out two of my own teeth in a bad ricochet (seriously- spitting blood for 3 holes), I look forward to my next round there! It was nicely laid out, cool mixture of holes and an appropriate challenge for all levels.
Even the food quality was excellent; the best chicken Caesar wrap I ever had, without question. Of course, with the golf ball to the teeth incident, it took parts of two days to eat the wrap, but it was great!!
Excellent course. Great experience.
Fantastic golf course. Great design. Lots of character among the various holes. Makes you think. Decent driving range. Great practice putting green. Greens in great condition for early season - fast and rolling true. Will definitely play again.
Great course!
Even after this long winter BHill came through for us.
Hidden Gem in Greenland
Breakfast Hill was a fantastic track and a challenging course for the recreational golfer. It's rolling hills and well placed hazards made it a game of pure course management versus grip it and rip it. The 17th "quarry" hole was fantastic - green nestled amongst the rocks. Greens were in fabulous condition and very fast - but the putts rolled nicely. If you need a nice course, a tremendous value and are not opposed to hills, then Breakfast Hill is the place to go.
Diversified holes
Course was well laid out with some narrow fairways.
Leaves were an issue in some sand traps and along the tree lines. Greens were previously aerated causing your ball to bounce on the greens. A few holes had provisional greens. Brush was cut in various areas around the course, however, not picked up.
Breakfast is Good at Any Time of the Day
I have always enjoyed the layout at Breakfast Hill. It is varied and fairly imaginative and makes great use of the natural terrain. It is well kept and all of that bent grass is a joy to play on. It is usually quite busy and deservedly so, as it is the best of the public courses on the NH seacoast. They are very aware of this, and are commanding an aggressive market price for their green fees. For these reasons, I like to play it in the spring or fall, and on days where the weather is less than great. I found the course to be conditioned just as I suspected last week, but the staff was having a sub par day. On the positive side, I could see the grounds crew had been busy keeping the course up and removing a lot of trees and brush from some of the rocky areas and marshes bordering several holes. On the front the 8th is a unique hole. You hit less than driver up the hill to avoid the cross hazard. You then hit a short iron in to an awkwardly perched green with trouble all around it. On the back, the 11th is a great par 4 that requires 2 big and precise shots to reach in regulation. To many BH will seem too short to challenge them, but the trade off is that more high handicappers are playing a length more suited to them and that helps the pace of play. The Grill is better than most public golf course 19th holes. It is a nice place for a post round drink, but if you are a tourist, Portsmouth and all of it's offerings are just down the street. I recommend a round at BH in the quieter months and if you can find an internet special to save a few bucks.
pace of play
Pace of play on Sunday afternoon exceeded 5 hours. Ranger on course showed litle to no interest in advising group to pick up the pace. Waited on nearly every shot......
Breakfast Hill GC
Relatively easy course with moderate to slow greens. The greens are sanded and respond well to high shots with minimum spin, i.e. they bite a little with a softer ball. Par 5s are reachable in 2 by the low handicapper. Most of the Par 3s are straight up and present few difficulties. You can shoot much lower on this course if a strategy is developed from the tee insofaras it is not always advisable to hit a driver off the tee.
very nice good pace great deal
We were allowed to go off early thanks to the starter. He was very friendly and worked us in when he had a cancelation pace of play was good 4 hours.
course is fairly new but in good shape some interesting holes.
you have a hard time beating New Englands summer weather.
Great course
Course had a lot of elevation changes and it was challenging without being over the top. Staff was friendly and helpful given we had never played there before.
Great course layout and value for the money
I golf here a couple times each year and always enjoy the experience. Very nice layout and course is always in good condition. Also a course you can walk if you like.
Not sure why more people don't golf here. I went out on a Friday morning and had the course to myself.
Great course for beginners as well as advanced players
This course was a delight. It is maintained by a conscientious and friendly staff. Greens and fairways were in good condition. Tees gave several choices using a four color code system i thought was unique. Gold, silver, black, maroon with maroon playing the longest. I used black which is equivalent to white for average golfers. The flags on the greens had a secondary flag beneath the upper flag indicating hole placement. Ie, a flag lower on the pole meant the hole is back while closer to the top meant the hole is closer to the front.
The clubhouse and restaurant situated in the same building and accessible to each other were in excellent condition. Fairly new looked to me. The course was a challenge for me as my score showed. i did manage to break 100 and could have done better and prob will next time around. I did manage one birdie, four pars and several bogies. The double bogies hurt.
Only drawback i prob won't be able to play breakfast hill before i return home to illinois after several weeks visiting my mom in massachusetts. I don't think golfnow will be offering the great discount rate of $16 before june 26 the day i'm scheduled to return home to illinois. You can believe I will play it before i leave if it is though.
