Clyde River Golf Club - Darrach Nine

About
The Darrach Nine is one of three nines at Clyde River Golf Club, which sits just 10 minutes west of Charlottetown. Of the 27 holes at the club, from 22 there are breathtaking views that overlooking the Clyde and West Rivers as well as the lush, rolling countryside covered with centuries-old hemlock trees. There are also seven holes with water and over 50 sand bunkers strategically placed throughout all of the golf courses. Darrach's finishing hole is famous for being home to Prince Edward Island's first island green. Naturally, accuracy is required when maneuvering around the large, double-tiered green, which also has many subtle breaks.

Cash grab by the owners
Course in terrible conditions- fairways need mowing
Bunkers? Most courses have sand in their bunkers- not Clyde River - theirs “bunkers” are DIRT!
Golf carts are discussing filthy a- we had to towel the seats off - covered in dirt!
Staff unwelcoming and rude! Definitely in the wrong business! Owner only interested in $$$$$
Poor signage everywhere!
Do t waste your money on this cow pasture advertised as a golf course!!
Cash grab rip off
Upon arrival we could not find the “pro shop” - no signage
Eventually finding the “pro shop” we entered which resulted in no greeting whatsoever! Fallowing payment we went out to get our cart - it was covered in dust and dirt - we had to towel off the seat before using it. After placing our clubs on the filthy cart we had to ask another golfer the direction for tee #1 (again poor signage).
Heavy drizzle developed on the second hole - it continued til the completion of #4 which ended back at the “pro shop”. As we were already rather wet and the forecast had changed to more rain, we entered the “pro shop” to negotiate a full or partial refund. We entered to find the original “pleasant” employee and the golf course owner!
We pleaded our case for a refund - “no refund”.
We then suggested a nine hole refund might be appropriate as they did offer nine hole green fees - “no refund”!!
They offered a rain check- of little value to us as we were returning home the next day. We continued to press for some kind of refund to the point they took away the rain check!!
At this point the “pro shop employee” suggested that I had created such a disturbance that I should leave. ( to be clear the “pro shop employee, the owner and I were the only I dividuals in the “pro shop” during these negotiations.
My conclusions - (1) sand traps/bunkers NO SAND! Just dirt.
(2) fairways- terrible condition (3) greens - bumpy needing work (4) overall signage lacking (5) customer service? Lacking severely - need coaching in how to treat the customers - customers? You know them! They are the ones that make it possible for you to be employed!
Finally do not believe the photos and any other advertising offered by the golf course to suggest this is A GREAT place to go for a game of golf- do not go!!
Great value
I enjoyed plating this course very much. I was able to have a relaxing round with my son. Having played almost every course in Cape Breton such as Cabot Links & Cliffs and the Highland Links, I know my golf courses fairly well. Clyde River ranks highly among them for value. For $40 I was able to have an enjoyable round and play some good golf. The layout is perfect for my game and I highly recommend you come try this beauty.
Not recommended
I set up in early May as a member at Clyde River golf course. The few holes that run along the Clyde River have been sold. Those few holes made the experience at this course. They kept the back nine closed nearly all of May because the 18 holes they now have runs into the woods and be remain wet after any rain. I had 12 nine hole front nine scores but no back nine the month I played there. During the month of May the ball wash stations were there but not one had any water to clean the ball off so I used my drinking water. The course is in hard shape. The greens are some kind of wierd grass that's slow and breaks diffently than normal courses here. Putting is not great since these greens are so slow and rude members spit sunflower seeds near the cup so they must be moved just to putt out. Wrappers from bars and candy can be found on any hole because the members don't respect the course. It's normal to find five people on a tee box there even though it's a rule clearly marked on the score card. Beer cans will be found in the woods when you go for a pee. The bad experience starts when you reach the first tee box. The grass is too long on the tee boxes. Some members will let you play through but the rude ones won't. After a month of replaying the same nine holes and seeing how this course is going downhill I asked for some of my money back. That was two weeks ago and there's no word yet. I do not recommend this course!
Great courses
My only reservation would be with the greens. They seemed a little soft. Not sure if needed tighter mowing but otherwise I thought it was a very good course with mix of holes.
Hot Desl ok
We used this round to fill in time, would not have been happy to pay full rate
Good Value
This is an above average course. Fairways are dry and greens are fairly fast
Liked the back nine
Liked the course, price was right and the people friendly. It has a nice layout with some tough holes and pace of play is very good.
Fun Course to play
Great layout, friendly staff, good bang for your buck, could use some attention payed to detail such as better directional markers, sand trap maintenance.I enjoyed the challenge & would play their again!

Vacation 2017
It has been a dry season on PE, this course shows it. The Tee boxes are rock hard, lots of dry areas. Overall the course layout is okay.
Horrible
The best I can say for this course is "pasture". We played this course two years ago when we were last on the east coast and enjoyed it. The whole place has gone to pieces. The greens have at least 3 different types of grass (plus bald spots) are bumpy and almost impossible to putt. The tee blocks are weedy and so hard you almost had to pound a tee into them. Fairways don't appear to ever get watered. We had to try 3 differnt carts before we found one that moved and the one we got was questionable at best. I'd have been through friend if I had paid full up to play this. It wasn't even worth the hot deal that we paid for it. I'd scratch this one off your list. I know it's been dry here recently but this is a disgrace
Golfin eh"
Played on a nice 78° day with a nice breeze. The course was kind of dry and greens are a little bit rough. Unfortunately some folks do not repair their ball marks. Sand traps were not very sandy more of some kind of hard red dirt that is known for on PEI. Golf carts are gas powered and worked just fine but they are beginning to show their age. There was only one young lady who work behind the counter and she took care of your beverages and checking in. There really is no food to speak of at the course. They do have a couple of sandwiches premade in the refrigerator.
My wife and I were able to play using golf now and scoring one of the hot deals. We waited till the day before and the price dropped at 2 PM to $10 for the round with a cart. So for that price I love that golf course. Would have been very disappointed if I paid 40 or $50 for the round.
Water needed
The course was fine, staff very friendly and helpful. Tee boxes were very very hard. Broke a couple tees trying to puncture the cement like ground. Very little rain this year so fairways and greens very very fast.
Over all it was a good course.
A Great Deal
Played on a very hot day. The fat that there has been limited rain for the past month meant that the fairways were fast. The greens were in good conditions and fairly fast. I had great time playing this course.
Enjoyable afternoon.
Staff was ok, not much to say...gave me the cart key and pointed to the 1st tee box. Tee boxes were dried out and cement hard. The fairways and greens average to good. Scenery, excellent, Semmed a little over priced, but in the norm for the area. Overall a good experience.
