The Cliffs Resort
About
One of the gems of Texas, The Cliffs is perched alongside the scenic Possum Kingdom Lake with its “18 signature holes” highlighted by 100-foot elevation changes, massive rock outcroppings, narrow, tree-lined fairways, and an infinite number of ways to destroy your golf round. Remove your expectations when “enjoying” The Cliffs, because it is a totally different golf experience. Hazard after hazard awaits from every angle, sometimes making it difficult to “enjoy” your golf vacation. Canyons, creeks, cedar and oak groves–everything imaginable gets in the way while you’re hacking it toward the immaculate bent-grass greens.
The signature of signatures is the terrifying No. 15, a dicey par 3 that drops 100 feet over a cliff down to a miniscule green that is surrounded by the cliff wall to the left, water right, and sand in front.
Getting there : This course is located on Star Route outside of Graford, 75 miles Northwest of Fort Worth near Hwy. 16.

Excellent layout. Tough winter course conditions
Course layout is excellent. It appears they are doing work on parts of the course, which is a good sign. Several tee boxes were being rebuilt. The course does struggle with conditioning at times - bunkers need better drainage and sand, tee boxes should be rolled and flattened, and there are areas on the fairways where a perfect shot in the middle will roll off the course to an unplayable lie. This latter point is exacerbated in the winter when the grass on the fairways are thin as they are not overseeded. Overall, I really like the place. The layout is great and the staff are excellent. It is definitely a fun place with some incredible views. It could just use some consistent investment and TLC.
Great Course
Well worth the drive. Challenging holes, cliffside holes where a slice means you're feeding the fishes, one of the few courses where you get range balls with the green fee.
Good Course... Great Views
Good Course. Layout is good, difficult. Lots of blind shots or shots hitting over canyons. Fairways and greens were great. The bunkers not good at all. All were soaked with water and it hadn't rained in weeks. The bunkers were unplayable, but everything else was good.
Beautiful if not a little intimidating views
Wow, the beautiful layout and surroundings at The Cliffs never fail to impress. Not for the faint of heart as a couple holes are so pretty but a bit intense for those with any sort of fear of heights. Greens and tees are in great condition as are most fairways. Some bear spots on the fairways due to the lack of rain this summer and fall.
Course conditions.
Toughest front 9 I’ve ever played. Course was in great shape. Practice areas were great as well.
Course shape
Wry nice course, definitely tough!! Course you must play smartly.
Really fun
Great layout, really challenging depending on which tee box you play from. Beautiful scenery
Fun with my son
Spent a week at Pk with the family. Decided to get some golf in, so took my son for his first time to play the Cliff’s. Everyone from the pro shop to the golf cart gales were first class as always. Course was in as good of shape as expected in a 104 degree temp in Texas for late July. We played mid morning on a Monday with very little traffic and no pressure to hurry along. Love this course and as challenging as usual.
The Cliffs
The Cliffs has some very nice views and the course has a lot of potential. However, considering the price was $77 during the week it was way over priced! The greens aren’t recovered from being punched but the main issues with the course is not the punched greens. The tee boxes need to be completely redone. Most have little to no grass on them. The fairways were in terrible shape. Well over half of them are unplayable unless you move the ball - from the middle of the fairway - to some grass at some point in the fairway or even the rough. Bunkers were washed out and need a ton of work. The greens - as I said recovering from being punched - however there are large portions of various greens that have dead grass or even no grass at all.
The staff was welcoming, golf carts were nice and as I said the views were good.
All in all I was very disappointed with the course. There is plenty of potential, however a lot of work needs to go into the course.
Great layout but struggles with conditions
I play this course often and it has some incredible cliff views overlooking Possum Kingdom Lake as well as the rolling hills. The staff in the pro shop, including Mike the head pro, are friendly, top notch people. With all the rain earlier this year, the course had been growing in nicely and a month ago was in the best shape it had been in years. However, due to an issue with the sprinkler system, half the fairways were burned out. Greens were good and fast though. It was disappointing to see this happen and I hope the Cliffs HOA, which is responsible for course maintenance (Mike and his team do not have influence over course maintenance), will spend the money to bring things back to solid conditions.
