Great course with lots of variety
This was my first time playing Forest Park since the redesign and I really enjoyed the overall feel of the new layout. The course offered lots of variety in terms of doglegs, some holes with water, and elevation changes. Overall this was a very enjoyable round. If there was a negative we were the first ones to tee off and I was surprised at the turn to find that we had to wait for a group to tee off. They were nice and it did not slow us down too much be we did end up waiting on a few holes on our back nine. That being said this was a high quality course and I would highly recommend a round here.
A day at Forest Park.
The course is great, 3 nine hole courses, each with different challenges. the overall beauty of the park is at every turn. the architecture of the Museums combined with the lakes and ponds are incredible. I would recommend the course to everyone who wants to spend a wonderful day, even if the game go's south, the views are fantastic!
Fantastic value and great setting
There is no nine hole I would prefer to play in St. Louis. It's a great value and the course offers fantastic views of Fires Park and the Medical Center. The waits can be frustrating on some weekends before noon. Junior golfers play at a big discount. New restaurant next door as well at the tennis center. Enjoy!
where's the sand?
Great golf experience in the middle of Forest Park! I had only one major ddisappointment. Sand traps are a vital part of the game. Avoiding them is best. However, with some practice, hitting successfully from the sand is possible and can be rewarding. I actually enjoy the challenge, WHEN THERE IS SAND. The traps here are not even filled with the coarsely of Meremac River sand. They are full of dirt and gravel. The dirt was dry and raked today, at least. What a shame! Considering the rates charged here, there is no excuse to not improve the quality of the sand traps.
good course, bad management
We, a twosome, played behind twosomes and foursomes with a good pace of play, finished in 1:45. There were 3 singles behind us who should have been paired-up.
At one point, the single who was two back from us
"told" us we needed to pick-up the pace of play. I feel that poor player/course management created that lack of etiquette and caused strife out on the course. If I want stress, i'll go to the office!
no pays
we played here often and always people just walk on and play just jump right in. sometimes the park on the street and go on about hole two then quite on hole 8 before the club house. this is a city course needs the money as all course. sometime they just come down from the driving range and walk on. the course is fun great sites everyone should enjoy this. could use some special at the 19 hole they use to offer 1/2 off apt if u played
Distances unknown.
I've played here a couple times. Great little public course especially since it is in the middle of one of the greatest city parks in the nation.
Fairways and greens are great, rough is nice too. The tee boxes are a little bit spent, but whatever.
My complaint? If you leave the clubhouse without a scorecard and don't have a GPS watch, an iPhone app for distances, or a rangefinder you are out of luck. Yardage is rarely marked and there is no yardage on the # signs. Good luck guessing!
Time for me to get a rangefinder.
Hidden St. Louis Gem
I have lived in St.Louis for the majority of my life and never really gave Forest Park golf course a try. Man am I glad I did. This course was beautiful and the course layout was excellent. Very friendly staff, in the pro shop and outside. I will definitely be back to play again.
Dogwood & Redbud 9's
Doesn't hurt to have the best round of your life. Course was in really great shape. Greens were mid speed and also in great shape. First 9 was a little slower in play than the back. They have 3 nines so that really helped for the pace on the back. I think it's a gem for the city. Got a great deal on golf now. Will play it again soon.
Gem in Forest Park
Played the Highlands 9 hole course. Despite pretty constant, and occasionally heavy rain over the 12 hours prior to play, it had cleared up by the time we teed off. Course drainage was excellent, and we only saw a few slightly soggy spots.
I think the weather scared some people off, as we pretty much had the course to ourselves, and when we checked in, we were told not to feel rushed if we wanted to hit a full bucket first.
Our group of three are all vastly different experience levels, but this course is amenable to beginners without being too easy for more seasoned players. Very affordable, very walkable, and very accessible. Having a course like this in the middle of Forest Park is a true win for St. Louis.
Nice muni!
Course is reasonably challenging and in nice shape for the most played course in the city. Great views of the city and park and an overall enjoyable time when the pace of play is sufficient.
Redbud Course is somewhat challenging but a little dangerous with balls landing in your fairway from other fairways.
It was a beautiful day which helped tolerate the slow play - waiting on every shot. I think that the club overbooked. Enjoyed Redbud more than Hawthorne which was not very interesting. Played Dogwood and Redbud last year - I like that combination better.
STL City Best Kept Secret
Course was in very good condition Fairways and Greens. Pace of Play Was Great, Since No One Started In Front of Us. Started Out Wet Early But Dried Out By End of Round.
Too slow but great layout
Could be a 4 star if the pace of play was improved.
Played Dogwood
I like this course but occasionally have trouble finding playable shots that end up hidden by leaves and dogwood fluff (for lack of a better word). The bunkers were rock solid also. Don't think the grounds crew touches them much.
Lovely day
The Highlands is looking great! Greens were quick . Nice grass.. Gave us a 2 for 1 ladies rate! We will be back
Best 9 Hole Course in Forest Park
Challenging yet fun course. Holes 4 and 8 are so fun to hit driver on. Only bad part is the tee boxes and greens get torn up becuz of all the tourneys. Hole 7 is pointless. Despite that I love this course and play it every chance I get.
Good course, WAAAAYYYYY too slow
I've played this course before and was very excited to play again. I got an early tee time thinking I would be able to play it in 4 1/2 or under as I had before. This time it took me 5 1/2 hours. I was assigned to play Redbud-Hawthorne. However, when I got to the 1st tee at Redbud, there was a traffic jam. I ended up starting 20 minutes late. Also, there were two groups ahead of me that were actually playing as a sixsome. So when there was a backup, with them playing as six, the delay was even worse. After a few holes, things opened up a bit. Then when we got to Hawthorne, and the same thing happened. Also, the course markings are not very good. There is a 150 yd marked in the middle of the course but the 100/150/200 yard markers are invisible unless you happen to run over them on the golf cart. It would be nice if you could see them from anywhere on the fairway. It's a nice course to play but be prepared to spend more time than you bargained for.
Great early bird deal.
I played the dogwood and hawthorn courses at forest park. The course was in good shape and held up well considering the large amount of rain the area received in the days leading up to my play. The bunkers were the only let down, as they had been unable to drain, leaving them unplayable. The online tee time reservation was simple and the course was fun for an average golfer like myself.
