Dogwood at Garden Valley Golf Resort
About
The older Hummingbird Course, which has taken a back seat to the now-famous Dogwood Course, still offered some adequate golf even though the quality was not up to the standards of its more popular brethren. Highlighted by extreme elevation changes, the course’s signature hole was the 566-yard No. 2, which required two shots over a hill followed by a tricky approach back downhill to the green. Hummingbird course was closed recently and only the newer Dogwood course can be played.
In 1992 John Sanford was blessed with some amazing terrain for the Dogwood Course addition. Cut out of the thick East Texas forest with 100-foot-plus tall pines, this course is most often compared to the famed Augusta National because of the abundant crape myrtle, Carolina jasmine, hollies, and dogwoods–not to mention the more than 1,500 azaleas that bloom beautifully in the spring.
Although there are only two par 4s over 400 yards, the Dogwood is plenty difficult, playing to a 132 slope rating. Water is in play on 12 holes, the elevation changes are extremely confusing, and the bent-grass greens are lightning-fast.
The regulars know that a good start is imperative because the first four holes are the easiest on the course–two short par 4s and two easy par 3s over water. You’ll need that momentum as the holes grow increasingly more difficult.
The par 3 9th hole plays 212 yards with an intimidating body of water lurking left. Hole 11 features a lake to the left and behind the green. No. 13 is the most difficult, featuring a testy drive through the chute of trees off the tee and a massive lake that protects the green.
Getting there : From I-20, take Hwy. 110 (Exit 548) south. After .5 mile turn right at the sign for the golf course. Travel about 1.5 miles and turn on FM 1995.

Worse Course Ever!!
In your system you have to give it a star but given the option I would not even give this dump one star!! First, they didn't haver our reservation from GN. The website says 18 holes but that is false. There are only 9 holes some of which the tee box was moved down the fairway. The course condition was almost not playable. We suffered through10 holes and left. There was a group broken down in front of us waiting for their second cart replacement. I would apprciate a credit. You need to remove them from your site!!!!! I also called today for a credit and will call again tomorrow!!! Worse golf course ever!!!!
Worse Course Ever Played
This course is absolutely terrible. Not worth even writing. I will be demanding a full refund!!! Totally misrepresented.
Had to give it 1’s as there are no 0’s. Didn’t even care to finish the round!!!
Not open on Tuesday
Course is not open on Tuesday and still have tee time on golf now. I drove two hours to get there. And didn’t get chance to play. Also can’t cancel
It's just a 9 hole course now!!!
Garden Valley is now 9 holes. All of the good holes ( 11-17) are no longer in existence. Condition was 6.5/10 for the operating 9 holes.
Back 9 Shut down
Was not told by staff back nine was shut down. Which is a shame bc the back 9 on this course is beautiful. Staggered holes along the front nine . No one picked up range balls . Went out there and picked up a few myself so I could warmup . GV is a beautiful course when you can play the whole thing . I will not be back to play a staggered front 9 .
Course needs a buyer!
Growing up in Lindale in the 90s, Garden Valley was a great course where I learned how to play. Now it's disappointing to see how much the course has been let go.
They recently closed off half of the course. So you basically play the front 9 twice. Which isn't too bad until you realize that the pace of play is affected by groups doubling up on hole 1/10.
The A/C either isn't functioning in the clubhouse or it's just turned off.
I truly hope they find a buyer soon that has the money to restore this beautiful course to its former glory. I feel bad for all the residents at Garden Valley who have supported this course over the years. They deserve better.
Course is only 9 hole. They don’t tell you that when you pay. If you pay for 18 holes, you play the same 9 and are just mixed in with people that tee off on the first 9.
Don’t bother booking tee time on golf now ap
Everything else was fine but we booked a day in advance only for the course to double book the 10:30 time with another group. They constantly were on our heels and when we offered to let them play through they yelled and insisted we stay ahead of them. This is what happens when you double book.
Small but fun
This is a 9-hole course that is great if you are a beginner. Play later in the day as it is not as crowded.
Keep expectations realistic...it is a $27.00 course.
Back 9 closed
This 18 hole course is only 9 holes. The back 9 are shut down. Staff said owner was trying sell back 9 to real estate developer Course to remain 9 holes for foreseeable future
Lady at the front desk was rude and the cart we had barely even worked. 8$ for a small bucket of range balls. Would recommend the course find someone a little more friendly to work their pro shop.
This is currently a 9 hole course
The course condition of the 9 available holes was fine. Can’t wait to play again when the remaining 9 reopen.
Going down fast!
Over the last few years Garden Valley has gone from one of the best courses in the area to one of the worst. I arrived for this round to discover the course had been reduced to only nine holes instead of 18. Conditions are poor, no driving range, bad carts, and now only nine holes makes the pace of play slow too. Shame, a great lay-out that was once a gem! Hope it makes a comeback, but won’t be back until it does.
