Dogwood at Garden Valley Golf Resort
       About
The older Hummingbird Course, which has taken a back seat to the now-famous Dogwood Course, still offered some adequate golf even though the quality was not up to the standards of its more popular brethren. Highlighted by extreme elevation changes, the course’s signature hole was the 566-yard No. 2, which required two shots over a hill followed by a tricky approach back downhill to the green. Hummingbird course was closed recently and only the newer Dogwood course can be played.
In 1992 John Sanford was blessed with some amazing terrain for the Dogwood Course addition. Cut out of the thick East Texas forest with 100-foot-plus tall pines, this course is most often compared to the famed Augusta National because of the abundant crape myrtle, Carolina jasmine, hollies, and dogwoods–not to mention the more than 1,500 azaleas that bloom beautifully in the spring.
Although there are only two par 4s over 400 yards, the Dogwood is plenty difficult, playing to a 132 slope rating. Water is in play on 12 holes, the elevation changes are extremely confusing, and the bent-grass greens are lightning-fast.
The regulars know that a good start is imperative because the first four holes are the easiest on the course–two short par 4s and two easy par 3s over water. You’ll need that momentum as the holes grow increasingly more difficult.
The par 3 9th hole plays 212 yards with an intimidating body of water lurking left. Hole 11 features a lake to the left and behind the green. No. 13 is the most difficult, featuring a testy drive through the chute of trees off the tee and a massive lake that protects the green.
Getting there : From I-20, take Hwy. 110 (Exit 548) south. After .5 mile turn right at the sign for the golf course. Travel about 1.5 miles and turn on FM 1995.

Don’t waste your time
This is no longer an 18 hole course. The fairways are pitiful with no grass. Paid for 18 only played 9. This course is not even close to what it was 20 years ago when I last played here.
Lots of Potential, Just Mismanaged
Course has such great potential, but until someone else makes an investment in this track it will remain meh
Perplexed
Staff was great, friendly golfers and residents, but this course has so much potential. A few months of TLC and this will once again be a true hidden gem.
Nice layout.
This was once a dream course. Currently it is just average. Still worth playing but nothing special.
Needs TLC
always wet and soggy when i play here. greens were ok at best. course really needs help with maintenance of course. carts are terrible!
TLC
This was a beautiful course, it just needs some TLC.
Worth giving it a shot.
Make. No mistake this is what it is. A small town course catering to down home people and for that it is great. The greens had some crab grass and pie Anna in them but hey it was great to get out and chase the ball around.
Nobody seems to care about the course anymore
The day I went, I really needed to use the range to try and figure out my severe slice. but it was closed. I lost so many balls on my tee-offs due to my slice, which I was not happy about.
I booked through TeeOff and got the promo rate of $53, but honestly if the quality of the course, cart paths, carts, and greens don't improve, then I feel that $53 is too expensive. Oh yeah, I almost forgot to mention that the parking lot is like an area during a war that was pummeled from a mortar attack. The weather was awesome tho.
Disappointing
Great course layout. Terrible maintenance. Paid $35 so that’s fair. This course has gone downhill in a hurry. Greens are horrid but I knew this before hand. Just don’t expect good course maintenance when you play here and everything thing be ok. It is what it is.
Bad upkeep
Nice layout. Course is not in good shape. Pro shop is poor.
No cart person around the course. It’s only $35 to play so that’s not bad. If you just want to go play golf just for fun then this is the course for you other than that I would not recommend this course.
Trash
charging $50 is criminal...by far the worst course I have ever played. Carts were trash, cartpath rattles your fillings loose, no range, greens were weeds and dirt. Don't waster your time.
