Stephen F. Austin Golf Club
About
Nature lovers and golfers who take particular pride in spending time outdoors will love this course. Loaded with wildlife and featuring fairways that weave through native pecan trees, Stephen F. is a beautiful 18-hole course set near the Brazos River.
The course originally opened in 1955, with both the design and construction being done by local golfers. The course has been ravaged by floods over the years, but continues to be one of the favorite rural courses of those who have played it.
Put your driver in the bag and play for accuracy. The course is under 5,900 yards from the back tees, and on many holes even drives that find the fairway will not result in a clear view of the green. Only one par 5 is over 500 yards, and most of the par 4s are under 400 yards. Bollinger Creek runs throughout the course and forces carries on four occasions. The back nine, built in 1970, is a little more open than the front nine.
Getting there : From I-10 driving north, take a left on Park Rd. 38, then proceed less than a mile to the course.

Rains helped out
Saturday was the best I can remember seeing the course. The last rains sure helped the fairways and the trees out quite a bit. The greens were not as good as they have been in the past. Very bumpy and slower than usual. However, I still have a hard time paying $50 dollars to play here. All in all this is a neat and challenging course.
Take a deep breath and relax.
Beautiful setting! Wife wants to join me just to drive the cart and get away. At one point I just sat and felt the cool air, listened to the birds and critters as I let others pass me by.
wonderful day.
I love this course!!!
I really love playing at SFA. I've played here many times and the staff is super nice and friendly. This course offers challenges for all types of golfers whether you're a beginner or a well-seasoned vet. The choices for description of course condition above is limited as I would rate the course as being in very good condition. The greens are always in tip-top shape. The landscape is nice and
the hills offer up some added difficulty and for the price, you can't beat it. I highly recommend giving this course a try. I am sure that you will be back to play another round shortly after.
very scenic and quiet
We all liked it very much. It is a beautiful course, away from city trafic.
Would definitely play here again
Pace of play was very good - we were heading for a four hour round before a thunderstorm struck. Overall, the course was in good condition and even after the 45 minute rain delay the greens remained fast, smooth and firm.
Nice course surrounded by beautiful trees and wildlife.
This course can be challenging for an intermediate player. The grounds are surrounded by beautiful old trees jumping with all sorts of wildlife including birds and deer.
The course is a pretty course that can be challenging but is fair.
The course is an easy drive from West Houston and the course continues to get prettier during the Spring and for the rest of the year. Deer are normally seen when you play the course.
Some of the fairways are straight but a number of them bend right or left and one par 5 has bends in both directions! A few of the greens are fairly small and the newer greens are much larger. The greens are in very good condition.
While the driving (warm up) area is not really convenient to the first tee box, that is one of the few downsides to the course.
You will have a very nice time playing this course and number 18 definitely challenges players to return to re-enjoy the other 17 holes!
Beautiful and well maintained
I played this course a few months ago and am really glad I went back. Great staff and the course is very well maintained. Some fantastic holes with one par 4 that big hitters can stick off the tee thanks to an elevated tee box. I feel very far away from everything when I am on this course.
Nice little course
Nice course, short but challenging layout. The fairways and greens could use some attention.
Fun course to play.
This was a fun course to play. During spring, summer, and fall there is always lots of wildlife to look at. Course is a moderate course to play. However, they needed a few more acres for the course as it seems that some of the holes were just dropped in where there was space (par 3's). In some places, there were 2 teeboxes right next to a green, so it was hard not to disturb someone on the others.
Good value for the money
Greens are good, a little slow pace. Fairways need some work.
Very tight fairways that require a straight tee shot
Challenging course, friendly staff, and a great place to shoot golf on the weekend.
NICE PLACE
I ENJOY THIS PLACE AND ITS VERY NEAR MY HOME. I GOLF THERE WEEKLY.
Awesome and relaxing
Course in great condition, greens were awesome..you will use every club in our bag..wildlife abundant..very peaceful and relaxing...friendly staff.
Stephen F. Austin Golf course is a true shotmakers course.
Stephen F. Austin Golf course is a true shotmakers course, although short in length it has plenty of trouble around. Plenty of trees to snag wayward tee shots & the greens are small but roll true.
