San Saba River Golf Course

About
Carved out of pecan orchard, San Saba River Golf Course is one you don't want to miss when you're within reasonable distance of this quaint little town. More than 600 pecan trees dominate the landscape, helping the course produce more than 30,000 pounds of pecans each year. Unlike other small-town courses, there is nothing easy about a golf round at San Saba. The front nine, built in 1972, is really tight, and anything that strays from the fairway will require imaginative recovery shots from the pecan trees. Most of the par 4s are close to 400 yards, the par 3s play over 170, and the two par 5s are extremely long, including no. 9, which goes 625 yards from the back. San Saba River's back nine, added in 1987, isn't as squeezed by the pecans, but has more water hazards that impact play. This side also has two long par 5s, but there are a few solid birdie chances, especially the 152-yard, par-3 13th.

Hidden gem in Central Texas
When we checked in for our teatime, the older gentleman behind the counter, said this golf course was the best hidden gem In central Texas and he was right. The greens were some of the better ones I have played on in a while and overall the course was an excellent condition. Our only issue for the day were the holes and layout aren't clearly visible so we did get turned around and lost a couple times. A little better signage would solve that and it would be a perfect weekend course for your Joe
Course
Beautiful course, nice fairways, tough greens. Really have to think about second shots on the dog left and right turns. Overall had a blast playing this course and would recommend it to any golfer. One suggestion is if you miss a fairway bring extra balls. 🤣🤣🤣
Back nine
Love the course, was not notified that the back ninewas closed, set up at the rv parked and enjoyed our stay
Greens Rock
The greens were in exceptional shape. Especially on the first nine. The back nine greens were also good, but they told me they are being redone later this spring. Can't wait to see what they look like new!
Fabulous Golf Course
Course is in the best shape since we have been playing it - fun to see it look so beautiful - greens are back and beautiful - terrific people both in the club house and playing - make you feel so welcome. Carts are average and they work perfectly - highly recommend this course.
Fabulous Golf Course
Greens in excellent condition - fairways improving with warmer weather however they are fine now - staff and other players make it such a fun course to visit and play. Holes have challenging characteristics which make it a challenge and fun to play. Highly recommend.
Winter golf
Have always enjoyed playing here. Very challenging coarse. Coarse only gets a 3 star for today but simply because all the pecan trees are loosing their leaves which are everywhere and you often loose your ball in them. They will soon be all gone and coarse will be great again.
A Hidden Gem, in a small town!
The front 9 greens are still in a recovery process, but surprisingly chipped and putted pretty well overall. The back 9 greens are in great shape. We (2 some) usually play pretty fast and we’re pleased with a 3 hrs and 10 min. The course offers plenty of shade here and there, but also open enough to get a breeze to make it very manageable in the summer heat. Despite the front 9 greens, the rest of the course was in great shape! A hidden gem in a small town! Great Layout and fun course with still more potential!
I have loved this course layout over the years. A few new challenges with trees getting older/larger, bunkers are now grass bunkers which is a nice new challenge. Overall a balanced course of easy holes to attack and difficult holes to survive. I plan to be back more often for the price, and rest of the course conditions! Very friendly people as well!!
Beautiful course
First time playing San Saba, beautiful course. Busy but pace of play was good, finished in 3.5 hours. Highly recommend playing it in cooler weather.
San Saba
Fun, challenging course. Played first out on a Saturday by myself. Got around the course in barely over 2 hrs. Although I did run into a sixsome and seven pack of locals on the back nine, they were really gracious to let me tee off with them and play thru right away, with no wait. Greens were a little burned out, and a 2 or 3 were worse off than others, but they were playable, except for one. There was a temporary green on the par 5 6th hole, which was kind of a bummer to see. Tees and fairways were in decent shape. Front nine is pretty wide open, while the back nine is very tight, with alot of trees that come in to play on approach shots. Overall, well worth the $40 price on a Saturday morning, but maybe not worth the 1.5 hr drive from Georgetown.
Hidden Gem
A hidden gem in Central Texas. New greens on front 9 are maturing and nice. Fairways have good bermuda grass. No sand - grass bunkers. Built along river so lots of variety in holes including water, trees, doglegs, etc. Truly a fun place to play with enough to challenge all skill levels.
Wonderful golf course
Fun course to play and challenging holes throughout the 18 holes. Staff are excellent and very professional and friendly. Highly recommend this course.
Perfect Find
It is a small town course, I did get lost for a second but overall a great course. Needs some work but for a small town I loved it. If you like Hancock Golf Course in Lampasas you will love this course.
Winter play
The course was in good shape for winter., lots of people playing, & all had a great time.
