Texas prides itself in being bigger and better than most states. That extends to its golf courses. The Lone Star State is loaded with plenty of good ones.
GolfPass releases a Top 25 Public Golf Courses in Texas every year thanks to YOU. We create our annual Golfers' Choice lists by curating the reviews submitted by everyday golfers. We use GolfPass' Ratings Index logic that weights newer reviews and combine it with a course's subcategory averages.
Each course needed at least two reviews and at least some public access to qualify. You can play golf at nice golf resorts or top public courses throughout the Lone Star State, from the famous Cowboys Golf Club near Dallas to the border towns near Mexico.
We make our Golfers' Choice best-of lists user friendly. Simply click on the photo of each course to learn more about the facility or to book a tee time (in most cases).

Waterchase Golf Club
Green fee: $60-$76
What they're saying: "I loved this course. Well kept, bunkers and water EVERYWHERE! Challenging. Not too hard for a recreational golfer to play, but you’re not likely to get your lowest score ever here either. I’ll likely be back." - GolfPass Reviewer -

Great greens, plush course and definitely a course I’m playing again this weekend with some buddies!" - Davidshaulis32 -

Live Oak Golf Club
Green fee: $25-$40
What they're saying: "I really enjoy playing this golf course even though it’s a little bit pricey. I played 18 holes in just over two hours yesterday thanks to three different groups letting me play through as a single. It’s a players course and the guys over there know how to allow faster players to play through unlike what you will find at local municipal golf courses where the people are completely oblivious to the golf groups backing up behind them. Austin in the clubhouse is a great person to deal with and hats off to the maintenance staff that maintain the course so well." - bawboy -

Golf Club of Houston – Tournament Course
Green fee: $62-$187
What they're saying: "Course played very well for Sunday Afternoon. Greens were in good shape and running fairly quickly. Pace of play was best I have seen in a long time, as the tee sheet was fairly empty on a NFL Sunday afternoon. Overall course is close to dormant except for some highly fertilized areas around the greens. Pace was quick and golf course in great shape, win win." - Travis822 -

Kissing Tree Golf Club

Wildcat Golf Club - Highlands
Green fee: $89-$115
What they're saying: "Had a nice 4 hour round of stress free golf for our mid-day tee time of 11:30. Nice views were on a bunch of holes and some challenging shots up and down hills. It's a course with a lot of blind shots that would not be hard the 2nd time around. This is a course I would make a regular stop. Before we had a nice early lunch that was tasty and reasonable. There is a second 18 hole course that I understand is nice also. These would make for a great weekend of golf to play both twice." - bsarocka -
Heritage Ranch Golf & Country Club

Tangle Ridge
Green fee: $55-$93
What they're saying: "I really enjoy the layout of this course. Some nice peak-a-boo views. Open fairways, two par 5's on the front and 2 on the back ending with a fun par 3 on 17 and par 5 on 18. Plenty of shade for hot days. Carts have a club and ball wash, but would be nice if they attached a cooler. Pro shop staff are complete duds. Don't expect much from them. (It) seems like an upgrade there would be good. Overall, very fun course to play and a nice scenic drive to get there. I'll be back!" - brock50 -
