Meadow Brook Gettysburg, PA 17325
This is a drought year in the area of Gettysburg, which I am a resident. This is one of my favorite courses for the price. The owner has the greens watered and the tee-off areas, but the fairways I think are left to Mother Nature to water. So the fairways can have some bare spots, especially this year (2020) because of the draught. The course layout is challenging with some greens below the teeing area and others above the tee. There are some water holes and some par 5 holes that are uphill making them longer and some downhill. A good course for the money..
Excellent lay of course!
Really enjoyed playing the course. Course condition was terrible though. Fairways did not have grass in about 25% of the area. So call tended to roll into hard dirt making shots more difficult then they should have been.
Loved the layout and will definitely play again.
Value for Money
Design wise, the course gets 5 out of 10. There are a few water hazards and some dog legs and some bunker protected greens.. There are also some interesting elevation changes and a few blind tee shots.
The course gets about 5 of 10 for the condition of the course. There are one or two fairways that have almost no grass and so preferred lie hardly helps. The greens are large and run fair but have a few patches.
I recommend this course for golfers on a tight budget and for folks who like trying different courses.
you get what you pay for
super cheap course, sometimes clogged with inconsiderate golfers, and many fairways are horrific. but at ten bucks a pop, hard to complain.
Meadow Brook golf course is like a cold glass of ice water on a hot summer day. It is refreshing. Its rolling green pastures matched with its unique high grasses makes this a golfers dream. The course is is always in great condition and the staff members will always greet you with a warm smile. Meadow Brook matches the level of challenge it presents with its easy going pace of play. I highly recommend getting a famous hot dog at the pro shop. They are to die for.
Unique Layout and Great value
This course has good things and bad things about it.
First, the bad things. The course is very cheap to play, and because of that, gets very busy on good weather weekends. Another result of cheap rates is course conditions. The greens are always furry and slow, and the course does not drain very well in some low spots. Also, there is no pro shop or snack bar. If you get hungry and want something to eat, make sure you bring it with you. They do sell some balls and have some candy bars and crackers, but not much else.
After all of that, I still consider this course as one of my favorites. This course has one of the most unique layouts I have ever seen. After the first two holes (par 4's), there are not any more back to back holes of the same par which nearly all other courses have. The front 9: par 4, par 4, par 3, par 5, par 4, par 5, par 4, par 3, par 4. The back 9: par 4, par 3, par 4, par 5, par 4, par 3, par 4, par 5, par 4. It has a lot of variety also: two drivable par 4's, a long par 5, a short par 5, a par 5 that you have to layup on the tee shot but can then go for the green in 2 with a well struck 3 or 5 wood, an island green par 3, and beautiful mountain views throughout the course. And because of the no snack bar, the course encourages you to bring coolers. The only thing better than a course having cheap beer prices is BYOB.
Anyone who plays this course should not expect Augusta conditions. But, $20 on a weekend for 18 holes of golf with a cart in unbeatable. A great course to play with your buddies and have a great relaxed time for cheap.
I give this course 4 out of 5 stars based on the course layout, value, and fun.
