My son at the 18th hole! Photo submitted by Hassellcari on 08/24/2013
Good Times
I thoroughly enjoyed my time at Lake Spivey. The course was in excellent condition. The layout was challenging but the holes were gettable. I am eager to play here again on my next visit to Jonesboro.
This course was harder than usual
The greens were the slowest I have played in years
Gotta Care More
When I got there at 7:45 AM the guy in the pro shop was fast asleep with his head on the counter. I had to say excuse me three times before he woke up. My cart had not been cleaned. There was even garbage in it. Luckily I had something to sanitize it myself. The cart then ran out of power by the 9th hole, so I switched carts and the new one did not have a monitor, or sand to fill divots, and the brake didn't work well. The course itself was O.K., although the tee areas were awful - truly, truly awful. Some were so hard that you had to push really hard to get a tee in the ground. The bathrooms on the course were locked too. The cups were not elevated, so you had to reach in to retrieve your ball, which with COVID, was not a good thing. I santized my hands and ball on every hole with my own sanitizer. It seems like management does not take much pride in the course. Too bad. It could be a nice course under the right management. I won't be returning.
Good course that will challenge your short game
Second time playing this course and the first since the new owners/management. The first time I had an issue with pace of play and this time was much better even though the starter warned me as a single I would be waiting a lot. Was pleased to get a play through on 11 after waiting on a five some on 9 and 10. Fellow golfers were friendly and the staff as well. The course is beautiful. However, on the back nine the sand traps were basically mud . The greens are awkwardly soft for this time of year and are unpredictable but that added to the challenge. Your approach shot is key with these other greens . Overall great experience and I will be back but as other reviews and previous experience has proved you may have to deal with pace of play issues.
Tee boxes are in poor shape.
The course Could be a very nice course but the tee boxes could use a lot of work. Fairways were in better shape I guess because of the rain since there aren’t any sprinklers for the fairway. Greens had been aerated but were still in ok shape.
Would play here again!
My party and I had a good time playing this course. Beautiful course would definitely play here again!
Nothing bad to say!
Only problem I had was being approached by a woman that said we were on here property and it wasn't clearly identified.
Hidden Gem
Once you arrive at the first hole you realize why the slope on this course is what it is. I’ve shot 10 over both times here. Very challenging.
Gotten straight
The Individual behind the counter was very unkind
the course is very nice very nice place to play golf but the counter guy was very rude because I paid for my tee time online and I have a group that plays on Monday now it doesn't make a difference or when the tee time is made because we all go out at the same time it's all the same so I didn't understand why he was being rude but its very nice and a good place to play I was suggested to a friend.
Avoid on Weekends
Unfortunately, we didn't get to play since the starting tee had 4 groups of 4 waiting to tee off and we figured it would be an hour before we could start. This mainly happened because there was no starter to regulate when groups were allowed to tee off. We were told afterwards that there are tournament groups throughout the day every weekend. They were the ones causing the jam at the start as they jump in front of people with scheduled tee times. Our tee time was 11:50 and we arrived around 11:15 but already the course was so busy that we didn't get a cart until very close to our tee time. Meanwhile, there were several groups (assuming for the tournament) with carts sitting at the practice green.
I've played this course before and it's usually a decent place to play. It's currently priced higher than previous years which is okay considering the demand but the intentional overcrowding of the course is a good reason to avoid. I'll definitely be staying away from this place this summer after reading some of the other reviews about the pace of play and the conditions.
Nice course.
I enjoy playing this course. Some of the holes are challenging, but that's probably more of an operator error! Keep it in the fairway and don't leave putts short; you'll have a fun time!
Greens are pretty rough
Could have been cause we went out a day after it rained, but some of the greens were nearly unplayable. Large patches of sand and dirt on some of them, slow, and apparently no one fixes their divots here. Tee boxes were also very rough. Fairways were fine and it’s a very fun layout but just needs better maintenance and this could be a 4 star course.
Beautiful course, greens need work!
Tough little track. Greens are slow like putting in sand. Great value though.
Haven’t play this course or golf in about 3 yrs , but enjoyed the course and the new layout
Very good value.
Very good value.
Like the fact that it was only $20 to walk where a lot of golf courses seem to include a cart in the fee whether you want one or not. Course was in terrific condition with the greens very receptive but maybe a little on the slow side. Receptive and slow is better than fast and hard though. Pace of play was very good and might just make this my Wednesday golf course even with it being a 50 minute drive.
