Enjoyed Our Round
Staff was great and they have done a fantastic job shaping up the course.
Slow Pace, lots of dirt but greens were good.
Almost a 5 hour round for a Sunday 8am tee-time. This place desperately needs grass , almost all tee boxes were dirt/sand with very little grass. The layout is decent and fair but not overly complex. The greens were in good shape but the pace of play and lack of grass will keep me and my mates away from Lake Spivey.
Ill be back
The clubhouse people were great. My first time playing the course and they answered all my questions. The starter explained which holes were cart path only & where to avoid a few areas. The course has a lot of tight lies right now and a few tee boxes were lacking. The greens are recovering nicely from the aeration 2 weeks ago. Overall pleasant experience.
Course conditions
As a beginner golfer and my second time playing here, it was a decent pace of play for a Monday morning. Overall the course was average and would play here again.
Quit after 9
The course layout is nice but conditions were so-so. Greens were aerated which I wouldn’t hold against them, but the amount of sand they used was borderline ridiculous. The pace of play was pathetic. Took almost 3 hours to play the front 9 with no sign of improvement. I don’t think I’ll be back.
Strange layout
First time playing the course. Not in great shape, some super wet areas, some super dry and dead areas all on the same hole as well as virtually all the greens. The course isn’t set up very friendly for the golfer shooting in the high-80s to low 90s. Holes 1 and 10 are hard doglegs where you can’t hit more than 200yd off the tee and on 10 you’ve got 275 after the dogleg. 15 has A trap across the middle of the fairway at 200 yards so don’t mess up your tee shot. There were also 4 blind tee shots Where you can’t see the landing area.
To be fair, this was my first time playing here, but I doubt I’ll go back. .
Good Value, Tough Pins
I always like playing Lake Spivey. This time out was tougher than normal because of recent rain. I felt the pin placements were borderline unfair as every pin was on a hill or on a downslope. Other than that the course is in wonderful shape and a great value to play.
Doing Their Best
This is another public course that is suffering from lack of funds. I think they are doing their best with their limited budget to maintain the course. However, there are a lot of shortcomings:
- Tee boxes are not well maintained. Hard to sometimes find a level spot tee it up.
- The water coolers were misssing.
- A lot of bare areas that should be longer grass/rough.
- Poor drainage in a couple areas -- especially the 10th hole where I had to leave my ball in the middle of the fairway for fear of sinking up to my knee in mud (to be fair, we've had a lot of rain the last few weeks but the rest of the course was pretty dry).
Positives:
- Greens were in pretty good condition.
- Interesting layout.
Full Price - partial value
No Hot Deals, but played anyway. Had to abandon cart with dead battery on #5. No apologies from staff, just another cart. Course play was good until #14 when we encountered two five-somes! Very slow play for last 4 holes. No Foodservice, but that may be COVID-related.
Great shape given recent rain
I hadn’t played Spivey in several years, but got a great hot deal on Sunday morning , so we decided to give it a go. Given the season, and recent rain, the course was in great shape. Greens were soft and receptive but rolled true and quite fast compared to other courses in the area. Some soggy spots in fairways, but again the recent rain.... Tee boxes do need attention. Overall for $24 on a Sunday AM, I do t think it can be beat!
Mismanaged
Great course but mismanaged. Restrooms locked, no water in coolers, ball wash stations has filthy water and course greens are patchy despite have plenty of rain.
Did not get to play - raining- and could not cancel
tee times. . Last time using your service.
Very difficult contacting your company.
Good value and experience
Great value and experience. Course is beautiful and challenging. Everything works well except pace play. Several groups are very slow and recommend staff to monitor and remind them to speed up or skip next hole. The touchscreen on the cart is impressive and helpful with high tech.
need marshal on course
Both hole 1 and hole 10 are par 5, and both are cart path only as well..
They must have marshal on the course so people don't spend all day finding their lost balls.
This course can take up to 5 hours plus if you have someone who has no manner.
