Pleasant in every respect
Randall Oaks is doing it right. No pretense, no formal bag drop, no nationally acclaimed celebrity architect, etc. The course is completely booked from sunrise to sunset and somehow the conditions remain tremendous by public course standards. I am not sure how they do it, but I am impressed each time I visit. I don't know much about Dundee, but certainly wouldn't assume that they have such a first class golf operation. The practice facility is second to none,; traditional range + learning center complex. They also have a three hole par 3 course. The grille has a beautiful deck view overlooking a pond/9th green and runs all sorts of events and dinner specials. The community really seems to support this place in a special way..
The design is fair; there are a few very demanding tee shots, but definitely some holes where you can relax a bit and make some good scores. There is a nice mix of risk-reward on both the 4's and 5's. You will probably hit a different iron on each par 3 and the 4's/5's have a really fun mix of yardages. There are plenty of ponds and bunkers that keep you honest, but the rough is not penal, so there is a nice balance. Also has a good variety of links-style open holes and wooded holes. The property features an east-to-west ridge that creates a bit of elevation and some nice vistas.
Nobody talks about this place, there are no recent reviews on this site, but clearly they have a recipe for success judging by the lack of available tee times. 15 years ago I went far NW to play GCOI, Whisper Creek, or Red Tail, but now I would recommend Randall Oaks above all three.
Randall Oaks reminds me a bit of Schaumburg Golf, but with better terrain and a bit more space.......fair course that has the financial support of the municipality and a fiercely loyal customer base.
Nice afternoon round
Course was in great shape even e lack of rain we have had. Front nine play was a little slow due to having a five some in front of us, but it picked up on the back nine when most of them dropped out. Love this nice little course and the staff is always super friendly.
First Time Playing - A Great Walk !!!
I had been wanting to check out Randall Oaks for some time and I am really glad I did. The course did not disappoint and it was worth the drive. A great walk and the greens were in great shape. This is a hidden gem in my opinion. The staff was very friendly and they have a nice practice facility. I highly recommend this course to anyone.
The course was recommended to me by many, so I tried it. It lived up to the hype. A great value. Nicely manicured course.
This course is challenging but fun to play. Staff treats you as if you are at a private club. Very fair with many challenging holes. Greens roll well and can be tough when sped up.
This one of the best and challenging course. I consider this course one of the best in Illinois. Coming from Florida where everything is flat, this is one of the best playing shape courses in Illinois, beautiful hills great views is a hidden gem. I would highly recommend for low and mid handicap players. The course defenetly challenges you at every hole.
I’ve played this course twice this year. Mid April and the course was in great shape despite the temperature and wind conditions. Great start to the year despite my score however I walked away knowing it can be tamed
Played again in August and even better shape and still challenging and overall results were far better than my April score.
Good pace if play
Course offers many risk/rewards but well worth it
Practice area is well maintained
Look forward to playing Randalll Oaks in 2019
This is my home course for league play and outings. Great staff with great knowledge. Highly recommend.
Great course, always in really good shape, they keeps this course top notch year round. Very friendly staff and treat you really good.
No carts after 530pm when your special starts at 5pm?
Why would you deny a cart to a single at 6pm, to take advantage of your "happy hour special", and yet allow a 4-some to make the turn with carts while I am sitting here writing this? Just be realistic and either apply common sense or move your 5pm special up an hour to justify your denial of carts due to "it getting darker earlier now". (Staff quote) Thank you.
First time playing. In Chicago for business and this course was close to where we were staying. What a find! Thoroughly enjoyed playing. Staff was very friendly, course was in excellent condition although hole number 4 was closed for bunker repairs so we were detoured to executive course for replacement hole (would have rather played hole #4 but I understand). Well managed with a friendly starter on hole #1 who offered course tips. Clubhouse accommodated our request to move up our scheduled tee time after our group arrived early. Nice quite Club Car electric carts with GPS (USB ports would have been nice). Course was very well maintained and in great shape. Greens ran true and pin placements were challenging. Rain ended our round after 13 holes but we thoroughly enjoyed our visit. I will make it a point to play this course again when I am in the area. One of the nicest public courses I have played in some time. Highly recommend!
Beautiful layout and in Great shape for time of year
Played on a cool blustery day but thoroughly enjoyed the course although I am still trying to figure out hole # 10 . I will have to play it again to see what I may have missed as far as the thought process behind the design . All in all the course is well maintained and very scenic .Will definitely play it again !
In my opinion, 10 is a true risk/reward style hole. Choose to take on the bunkers and should you carry them, you have a short iron or wedge into the green. Choose to lay-up short of them with a hybrid or iron off the tee and your second shot is with a long iron into the green. Personally, I think the best play is something in the 210-225 yardage range off the tee. Carries the bunkers but is short enough to stay out of the trees to the right.
Love playing there course is well kept!! I had one of my best rounds there.
Really Kept Up Well
Great course for $30. All of the traps were well maintained. All the fairways were nice. The greens were very nice also. It is a great course. If you play badly here you can't blame this course. It has to be you. All good and will definitely go back next year when the price foes back down to $30. Back nine greens were aerated but done in such a way as to not affect putting. A real value.
Enjoyed playing this course again.
Haven't played in a few years because of price.
Found a deal on a Sunday and was pleasantly surprised.
Trees and bushes have been thinned back and course seems more wide open and playable.
A case of supply and demand. This course is in such great shape, and along with an excellent layout, gets a lot of play. As a result, the prices are sometimes fairly high, but if one pays attention to golfnow, one can on occasion get a decent deal. I got a great one monday and enjoyed the course thoroughly, as I always do. The course has a real diversity of holes, making it most interesting.
