top-notch greens and beautiful fairways
This former 18-hole course was converted to a 12-hole layout due to financial and economic reasons, etc. You can play 6,12,or 18 holes if you desire.New management kept many of their old holes and re-designed a few new ones within the confines of the space that was left to them.I think it's a fun and challenging course and am glad that they got to keep some of the nicer holes on the course. The fairways and greens are still top tier and management continues to be friendly and accommodating.I will definitely be back soon to play this wonderful course again.
This course is a joke and misadvertised
This course is now 12 holes. They turned 9 holes into a corn field and hacked together 3 holes that are not legitimate golf holes. They don't have gps on their carts and they don't take good care of their holes. We are never going back. It is a shame because this was a great course.
Confusing track
I grabbed a discounted online tee time and played Railside for the first time. To be fair, this course has some potential. There are about 5 or 6 decent holes. Then, there are some holes that are completely the opposite, either way too easy or completely out of proportion. There is a par 3, 60 yard hole for example followed by a hole that is built on the driving range with no fairway.
I was pretty disappointed even at the discounted fee. If I would have paid the full $40 I would have been furious. The entire layout is confusing. Old holes with permanent signs are still in place while cheap, laminated signs call out the new hold number. Yardage markers also appear to be way off.
The restaurant, bar and deck was nice. There is potential to MAYBE convert this back into a 9 hole course with legitimate holes. The 12 hole format that is currently in play is highly suspect.
12 hole nightmare
This place used to be so much fun. They took a great course and turned it into a 12 hole nightmare of a layout. No GPS in the carts anymore and the the course is in horrible shape. Not sure what they were thinking with the new layout. I'd give this place a few years before going back. Not even worth the hot deal on GolfNow.
Railside Golf Club
This golf course has been on my play list for a long time. The bunkers could use some work, but the greens were in great shape. It was well worth the drive.
Downhill
When this course was new it was incredible. The fairways were perfect the sand fluffy. The fairways are being overtaken by rough grasses, the bunkers are clay with a little sand that has washed into the bottom, some of the bunkers have not been tended too in weeks. There were rakes laying in the grass that had crab grass growing over them one foot tall. All the bunkers were flooded Sunday but we did have 3 inches Friday and Saturday.
It seems. Courses are raising prices but maybe they need to drop them to get more players. At least we got a good rate. But regular rate us still too high for the conditions
Great course, good value
Great place to play. Staff very friendly. Food looked good but didn't have time. Will have to do that on next round.
Great value
Great value and pace of play. Course was in good condition, the greens played consistently. Would definitely recommend especially for the price.
Great Course for the Deal!
Great course I have played this multiple times. Nice Staff and club house. course bunkers where not in the greatest of shape probably due to recent rain in area. Really enjoy playing this course but it is usually very windy.
Good value
Course was in great shape for November, fairways and greens were just like they were in spring.
Nice staff, TERRIBLE conditions
This course changed owners a few years back and I really enjoyed the course back then. Not so much under the new ownership. It looked less like the nice links course I remembered and more like the set of Mad Max.
I expect a little bit of brown grass on any links course due to wind and lack of shade but this was extreme. The fairways were mostly dead and what wasn't was more crabgrass than bentgrass. The tees were the same way.
The greens rolled fairly quick but had large dead or spotty patches as well. It's been a fairly good year for rain here so my only assumption is they've tried to save money by not watering. Hope they saved a lot.
The cart gps was also very annoying. I went off the path on one par 3 that set off the return to path alarm and then it continued to go off at random for the rest of the round. So that was great.
On the other hand the clubhouse staff was great and the bar and restaurant had a very friendly and welcoming environment. I'd say go there for a cheap lunch but skip the golf. Even the $15 golf now rate I got wasn't worth it.
Course has been better
I've played this course a couple times before and it was always in great shape. This last time the greens were pretty beat up and had an affect on a number of putts. The course layout is still fun, staff is still very friendly and the value for the money is excellent. The amount of rain has likely made it hard to maintain the course and it has seen better days. I would still go back and recommend playing it.
Railside review
The course is fast due to lack of watering.
Sand needs attention.
But for the golf now rate it was a deal.
Great afternoon of fun
The area has had plenty of rain and there are wet spots that showed just that. Some of the fairways still were soggy and the green were slow, which made play a bit more giving to hit on. Conditions were excellent on the course as it was well mowed and the rough was not so tall to be a complete lost cause if you hit into them. But note, if there is some wind, it is really windy here , for the lack of trees or woody cover.
Wide fairways give the average golfer a chance to still recover if you do hit a bad drive, but there are still enough challenging water hazards and sand traps to frustrate even a low handicapper. Course play was great as I was able to pass the slower group players with no problems and got 18 holes of play just a bit over 3 hours.
There is a full service clubhouse good enough to serve great meals and was recently remodeled.
Since the rates are quite reasonable for a quality course, this is a must play for any golfer.
NICE COURSE; WISH IT WAS CLOSER
ONLY NEGATIVE WOULD BE THE CONDITION OF THE BUNKERS. MORE POWDERED DIRT AND SMALL ROCKS THAN REAL SAND. OTHER THAN THAT NO COMPLAINTS.
Great course but may not drain well
We played Railside 4 days after heavy rains. There was standing water on #18, soggy spots in a number of fairways, and most bunkers were unplayable, many with standing water. The layout is great and each hole is unique but the course may not have adequate drainage based on this one experience. Otherwise it was in outstanding condition and a great value. We will definitely play again...with an eye on the weather.
Best course in the state for the money
Railside is a great course for amateurs to get a nice, challenging, relaxing, and reasonable round of golf. There are always specials on golfnow or other area programs. You can always find a round at railside for under $25. The sand traps can use some work, but the fairways and greens are impeccable. Food is great as well as reasonable. Practice facilities are second to none. Not going to shoot your worst score here., but not your best either. Great course at a great price!
Great Place
Very friendly staff, pretty good conditions for spring and high wind.
