Lake of the Woods Golf Course - Championship

Every time I tee off at Lake of the Woods Golf Course, I feel like I’m stepping into a nature documentary. The course itself is beautifully maintained, with tree-lined fairways and peaceful surroundings—but what truly sets it apart is the wildlife.

Without fail, I spot wild turkeys strutting across the greens** like they own the place. They’re surprisingly unfazed by golfers and add a quirky charm to the experience. And then there are the deer—sometimes entire families—grazing near the rough or watching from the woods**. It’s not unusual to see five or six in a single round, and they make the whole outing feel serene and special.

The course layout is solid, offering a good mix of challenges for all skill levels. But honestly, the wildlife makes it unforgettable. If you love golf and the outdoors, this place is a must. Just don’t be surprised if your backswing gets interrupted by a curious doe or a gobbling turkey!

Pace of play was extremely slow. Need to have someone out on the course keeping pace of play up

Pace of play was rediculous. It took almost 5 hours to play. No staff on the course ensuring that players moved along at a ready golf pace. Very disappointing. Not alot of fun to stand around and wait to play each shot.

Beautiful course. The old timers say it’s in the best shape it’s been in thirty years. Wide open fairways and not too thick roughs. Sand traps are in great shape. The course is short but protected by tricky greens. The breaks are sometimes inches in front of the cup. Fun course, friendly staff. Enjoy.

Got a good deal on teeoff. Definitely worth the money. Have played it for several years.

Course has definitely been upgraded. In my view, it is one of the better course in the area.

Unfortunately, this makes it popular, thus crowded. Pace of play pretty slow even on

weekdays. It is a pretty course, though. You will almost always see some deer.

What a nice round of golf with friends. Great staff doing a fine job of attending to a public course with much play. Fees are quite low and afford the golfer a value round on a very well maintained course. Could not have been better in any way we experienced. Anxious to play there again as soon as possible. Loved seein twin Bambi’s bounce about. ❤️❤️

Course in great shape all new sand in bunkers very heavy everything else two thumbs up

To call this course amazing is an understatement. The mix of par 3s 4s and 5s is wonderful. The course itself is stunning. We played at 12:50 on a 90 degree day with 20 mph winds and with all the trees you could hardly tell. Greens were difficult but not impossible. Fairways are in immaculate shape as well. We even saw a deer grazing on the the 6th hole mid day! Arguably the best public course in Champaign county. 10/10 will be back.

I was late for my tee time but they very kindly hooked me up with the group I was supposed to be with. Great guys btw. There was a 4-some ahead of us that mysteriously became a 5-some around the turn and pace of play slowed a lot. They were not experienced and did not suggest we play through. Everything else was really great.
