On green of 5th hole of Willow Crest Photo submitted by u642535502 on 09/08/2020
The course is it terrible condition
I decided to take my mother golfing and wanted a nice course to take her to. I paid $80 each person. There was no sand in any of the traps just solid clay. The greens were all beat up terrible condition. It was awful. I played really well, but will not return, it was like I was playing a $20 golf course and nobody was maintaining anything except cutting the grass
Bring your mud boots
For a course that charges as high as most others in the area this was by far the worst course around. Mud pits where sand should be. Not a ranger in site for a 5.5 hour round. Avoid at all costs
Can’t Recommend
Our tee time was at 10:54 on Labor Day, the course was full but not packed. Pace was solid, we wrapped up in just under 4-1/2 hours for 18 (and didn’t shoot particularly well). Overall, the course itself was nice enough, but for $80 go elsewhere. First issue: the cart-provided divot repair bottle was empty, and the first par three tee box (as with all the others) needed some love. Second, sand traps were rock hard, there was just no getting under the ball. Third, on a 90+ degree day, you cannot run out of hot dogs at the turn. When I asked if they had some inside, the attendant said no. The three they had left, which our group grabbed, were probably the worst hot dogs we’ve ever had: cold, overly firm, like they’d been there keeping warm for days.
I know golf in the Chicago area is expensive, but the amenities here were garbage. No range, lackluster food, hard traps, and too many divots. We may go back, but for $80 there’s much better out here.
Good layout, terrible bunkers
Bunkers are basically hardened mud. Rumor has it the course is being sold off so maintenance has lacked. Most groups we played near said it’s a commonality and expectation that if you hit in the bunker you drop next to it. Aside from that, not a bad course layout, pace of play was good, but not worthy of $80
Decent course if you get a deal
Pace of play was good on the front but waited on every shot on the back 9. Course is narrow, greens and tee boxes are not in great shape. Do not play it out of the bunkers, no sand
Overpriced
This course is not worth the greens fees. Poor conditions, over crowded. After the round we had drinks and they were overpriced. They charged $3.00 for ICE??? We will NOT be back. There are way better courses in the area for less money.
Course has really gone down hill
This used to be my favorite Go to course. The greens are really beat up. The maintenance crew was constantly around moving and it was around noon. so annoying. Cart paths are in bad shape. Pace of play was terrible and there were no rangers keeping an eye. so sad to see this course go down hill. It used to be amazing.
Played Sunday.
Challenging course but too expensive for what you get. The Greens are not in good condition. Also no sand in the traps just hard packed dirt making them hard to play out of and no range finders in the carts. The course has some nice holes and a friendly staff and will put your golf skills to the test but there is better value for the money in Chicago.
Avoid All Bunkers
Course bunkers in terrible shape, all mud no sand. Not worth the price of playing very disappointing.
Willow Crest
Course in good shape considering the weather
Only bad parts sand traps very hard
Greens to many people not fixing ball marks
This was a shame, heard this course was great in its heyday.. it’s a resort course we get on the first tee box the starter says “there’s some standing water in the bunkers” so I’m thinking ok a little bit of water in a few bunkers... every bunker was literally flooded, so every time you hit a bunker you lose your ball. Just absolutely frustrating, I mean green side bunker and you lose a ball, that’s a joke on a golf course. Not to mention tee boxes were all jacked up with divots, greens had craters from jerks not fixing their plugs, it was bad. Then it’s hot as can be and I had to call the clubhouse to send the cart girl to use on the 8th hole, just ridiculous. Other than that staff was nice but that doesn’t justify $76 or make up for how bad of shape tees & greens were.. heard they’re going under blah blah it’s a shame when courses are this bad when you go out to play some competitive golf with a buddy.
Course Review from BigShooter
Very disappointed on how all the bunkers lacked sufficient sand in them. Most were very muddy and unplayable if your ball were to land in them. Pace of play was somewhat slow but not too bad. Tee boxes were a bit worn down.
Why do I keep playing this place?
This course is what you get when you combine a championship layout with no maintenance and lousy clientele. The bunkers are an important part of the layout, and they are all hard pan dirt. Greens are trashed because the weekend resort morons playing 5-6 hours rounds don't fix their pitch marks. Tucked pin locations on busy Saturdays make no sense when I have to short side out of dirt bunkers. All for the low low price of $80!
Pay the few dollars more and play seven bridges or preserves. Or save $30 and play at plenty of courses that are at least somewhat maintained..
