Scenic Rolling Layout
Previous reviews may not have played this course. Front 9 plays over hillier terrain than back. I enjoyed the par 3 9th over a lightly trafficked road to an elevated undulating greens.
Green locations and hilly layout are the strengths of course. Worth the effort to play if in area.
Poor golf etiquette
Course looked kinda empty so I thought I could play a quick 9. Paid and asked the gentleman which side to start. He said front and I arrived right behind two ladies who just tee'd off. Foursome in front of them. Caught them at second tee. All 6 of them, nobody in front of foursome. 3 hours for 9. Need a ranger out there, and a drink cart.
This review is in the context of other nearby golf courses and not what it could be or compare it to courses in other areas.
Starting off let's correct a minor error reported in an earlier review. There are Three par 3's on the Front 9 and 3 par 5's on the back 9..
Pace of play is generally good when I have played. I prefer afternoons, when it is less crowded.
Considering what else is nearby, it's an OK course.
Off-Course Amenities - or On course for that matter. Practically none, for that reason 1 star.
Course Layout - Mostly flat and tree lined fairways. Very few bunkers. Surrounded by corn fields and a highway.
Silly Par 3 hitting across the main road in front the entrance. No rating below 1 available.
Value For The Money - At $40 on the weekends, probably not bad, but considering the location.. The one plus is that 18 round green fee allows unlimited play
On a camping trip
I golfed with a friend on a Saturday while camping at Starved Rock. Very nice course, great people, really well maintained. Three par fives on the front. We played from the middle tees. Just can't say enough nice things about the place. We had to wait at number 11, but the trio in front let us play through as soon as they finished. Highly recommend
