Not bad
Not a bad course. Layout fairly interesting. Tougher than it looks if you play the tips. Greens nice.
Fairways could have been mown a little shorter.
Great value
Pick this course up and put it in Naperville or any larger populated area and you’d be paying 3 times what they charge for how nice of a course this is. Expect nothing but a great time and great value if you’re willing to make the drive out from the burbs.
Nice Course to Play
Third time playing this course this year. It’s a well maintained and fun course to play.
a nice country course
had a nice round here. course was in pretty good shape. there are some difficult lies around most of the greens. some weird areas of very fluffy grass that push the ball up high on the face on chip/pitch shots. after having a little pitch of about 20 yards go 10 feet on #4 i got smart and used a putting stroke with my 5-wood the next couple times i was in the fluff. however, you have an issue when the fluff is at the bottom of an elevated green and you need height. still haven't figured out that shot.
Former Country Club
This former country club has a solid original front 9 and a newer back nine that caused some rework to front 9 and longer travel between holes. Still the conditions were great and the hilly terrain and undulating greens made for a very fun round.
too long for front tees
not real women friendly need to move front tees up on some hole
A teriffic suprise
Went back to the area to visit family and although we normally stay around Rochelle and Shabbona, we thought it was finally time to branch out. I couldn't be more happy that we did. This course immediately jumps to the front of the course list when getting back home. The value for the money was fantastic and as far as I have seen, the best in the area. With the course routing and design, conditions, and 18 hole layout it will take a special course/experience to overtake this club.
The greens were in great shape and for how much play the course seemed to have this Saturday it's a testament to the players as well. The mounding and green complexes are the main defense for course as it doesn't play overly long. I haven't seen green complexes like this anywhere else in the area, if they are out there I need to find them. The pace of play was great and didn't feel rushed or slowed down at all throughout any part of the round.
The membership seemed excited to show of their home course. The age of the members we encountered gave off a perfect vibe that made up appreciate the experience even more. We were shocked at the cost of the food and beverage, everything was so reasonable we had to do a double take when we received the tab.
The overall experience was something I'll remember for awhile and something that we ensure we make a return visit. This is a course I cannot recommend enough.
Well Kept Well Conditioned 4.25 stars
My interest peaked when I noted Golf Advisor ranked Mendota #9 in Illinois for 2019 and #7 friendliest in the nation in 2019. The topper was a $19 hot deal fee inclusive coupled with.a perfect weather morning to make a 1 1/2 hour trek from the Western burbs of Chicago. Folks are friendly the course is well conditioned/well maintained in all areas (even the traps). Trees but no real issues.....plenty of room to route your ball. They take great pride in this course and it shows. Some of the greens are smallish and have lost their size. #4 thru #6 stretch of course is formidable and the back nine provides plenty of challenge as well - windswept tee on a ridge dog leg right par 4 13th over a creek greenside. Both the Par 3's on the back 14 & 16 feature fronting water hazards. Hills and dales/down and up. Nice old school 50's clubhouse with lots of windows. The members really are friendly to newbies and the folks in proshop most pleasant and welcoming. A top ten in Illinois? - that's a bit of stretch.....but certainly within a top fifty. I wouldn't hesitate to return. Highly recommend if you're in the area or want to go experience a nice pleasant quiet day in the countryside.
Awesome
Awesome time, fun course with a homey feel! Great shape and managed well. You can tell the locals and the owners take pride in this course.
Confusing layout
Played 18 with my friend and it was the first time for both of us to play there. Had it not been for the next holes number being painted on the cart path with an arrow leading the way we would have been lost. Sometimes the path cuts in between a holes tee boxes which makes up think you are somewhere different. Overall the course was great. Very well kept fairways and greens. Very little break on the greens, so play right at the pin.
