Great Day @ Salt Creek
I was welcomed by Tony upon check in. We enjoyed the fabulous new golf carts with GPS. Course was in the best shape we have ever seen it. Lots of obvious improvements. What an incredible course and an amazing value. Tony treated us to the round after we experienced a rain out on a previous round in the summer.
Salt Creek will challenge your game!
Pretty course in Brown County
Course was in good condition, though the bunkers don’t have much sand but didn’t pose a problem for us. Course has elevation changes and blind shots that I wish I knew about, but I will remember for my next round there.
Great course
As usual, Ben Vaness and his staff have the course in great shape. Salt Creek is a course we visit frequently and always enjoy playing. The front and back 9’s are two completely different course with their own unique challenges. Any level of player will enjoy a round here. The beauty of the course will only compound as the seasons change. Salt creek is in the middle of brown county and the fall season will bring breathtaking views of your drives flying down the fairways. Spend and an afternoon here, you won’t regret it. Don’t forget to grab one of their delicious tenderloin sandwiches that will fulfill that craving!
Great course in a beautiful setting
Saltcreek is a gorgeous course with different challenges from the front 9 versus the back. The staff is extremely friendly and attentive. S
Worth a visit
I enjoy the tree lined fairways and elevations. Very fun curse to play. Greens were nice and fast during our play in July. Small greens that were a bit hard. Ball not checking up on good approach shots. All in all I’ll play it again and would suggest it to others to play
Weekend Golf Trip Review
Ok - spent 3 days at the resort, so I'm going to try to be as comprehensive as possible.
First things first: I've played here before, and I've never seen the place "dry" but this is because of when I've played, so I don't fault the course for that. We had a hot and dry July then it rained off and on for a few days leading up to our trip. So we had a wet course and cart-path only the whole trip, which I understand, the weather necessitated it. I've decided to group my thoughts in a tiered format.
The Good
I like the routing, if a bit narrow due to trees. The course is short, kinda quirky and requires some precision off the tee. The greens were in good shape, especially considering the amount of water they endured. The par 3s all play pretty tough and hold their own. The front plays through a flatter routing, and brings in the creek a few times, offering some risk/reward holes. The Par 5s are all pretty gettable, so that's fun. The back moves across more interesting landscape and I enjoyed this more (even if I played it worse).
The Kinda Bad
Water water everywhere...the place just doesn't drain well, period. We had a hard rain Fri night, so I understand the challenges, but the drainage needs something done (tiles installed, fans, tree removal). Holes 13 and 14 are seriously challenged, they need to cut some trees down, get some airflow going. The tee shot on 15 is getting crowded too, which is too bad, it is a nice elevated tee-ball that floats in the air for a while - but plugs upon landing.
The Kinda Ugly
There are a lot of bare spots in the fairways that pre-dated our trip and the recent rain. With the amount of moisture, we played ball in-hand and that was needed to find fairway grass on a lot of holes. The rough was lot of crabgrass and random stuff that, due to the weather, hadn't been mowed, which added to it's unpredictability (around the greens were much better though). The tee boxes were pretty chewed up too; they need leveled and sanded so maybe they can drain better. The bunkers were non-starters; not treated, no sand and we didn't even try to play from them, I told my guys to take it out (rake and re-drop wasn't helping).
The Rest
The staff was all very nice and professional; they did a great job accommodating our group from set-up through finish (including getting us out around the weather). The rooms we stayed in (condos) were great, roomy, full kitchen ,and perfect for hanging out. The resort has a restaurant and bar on-site that do a great job. (One of my fav places to get a Bloody Mary.) We had almost no wind and minimal bugs (which is rare). The greens got mowed each day, pins moved.
The Lowdown
We purchased the unlimited golf package, and when you play that game you know you might be sacrificing some quality to get there, so I didn't have expectations of county club chic all 3 days (not at this price anyway). If we had caught the club a few weeks earlier, it would have been drier I'm sure, and likely would have improved our trip. I'll play here again if I'm in the area (we camp down here once a year or so) and I know it's been dry for while. I think they should get some renovations in improve air flow and drainage then the rest of the challenges mentioned would be more easily met.
Pretty golf course
Beautiful fall day to play golf in brown county! We had a great time and enjoyed the variety of holes and water challenges. We only lost a few balls. We will be back.
Good Course
First time playing course. Greens in ok shape. Course overall was in good shape.
9/27 round of golf
Poor value for the money. Course charges way too much for that course. Cart paths are in extremely poor condition. Too many "hackers" that don't know how or that they should rake the traps. I won't play there again.
Wonderful staff!
My job has allowed me to travel the country and enjoy hundreds of courses. My wife and I over the Labor Day weekend took a small vacation and set a tee time the day before. We were very pleased with the wonderful, courteous staff! They were incredibly pleasant and helpful to any questions. The course was soggy but it was a very overcast day with periods of rain. The fairways were tight through the tree lined fairways and the elevated shots throughout the course provided great views and a change of scenery from what we are typically used to. Overall, next time we are in the area, we will definitely be making another visit to Salt Creek Golf Resort!
Salt Creek review
Overall nice course, greens were somewhat beat up, but it has rained a ton and I can see flooding being an issue for some greens. Carts paths need some maintenance. Fairways were very nice. Overall nice challenging course for a moderate player. In the fall, this course is probably very scenic.
Good dimensions for the course
The front nine of this course needs some work on the cart parts as they are very rough, pot holes, roots causing bumpy conditions. The front nine greens were not very smooth, very rough and needing a lot of work.
the back nine offer a very differing level, some significant elevation changes, and major obstacles.
It rained twice causing delay in the first part and we did not finish the last two holes due to rain again. To give a fair evaluation I hope to play again when dry.
Great bones but in need of sone TLC
Cart paths are in very poor shape. The course has great bones and the fairways in ok shape. Some of the greens are nicked up pretty bad and I fixed at least 4 ball marks on each one. The views and scenery are great. There is a need for a barrier along State Road 46 and the parallel fairway for a par five. Just too easy to get a ball off the tee into the busy hi-way.
Could be Nice, Needs Maintenance
The course has some quirky holes, but I don't mind that, as it gives the course character. The course is pretty short from the white tees. We caught up to a fivesome on hole 10 that was playing out of four bags that really slowed us up. The main problem with this course is maintenance. The fairways were sparse on grass and really rough and wet in areas and the greens were pretty beat up. The staff was friendly. I paid $15 on GolfNow and wouldn't pay more than that to play this course.
Good course for the money
Well maintained course cart path could use a lot of work. And tee boxes are very hard. Otherwise not bad!!
Salt Creek
Cool course layout. Fairly difficult. Must keep your tee ball in the fairways. Solid course.
Great Deal!
I am so glad that I booked this outstanding deal at Salt Creek Golf Resort. There is a good balance of challenge and accessibility. I plan to return to this course in the future!
A Walk in the Woods of Brown!
The course was hit badly with rains this Spring and is slowly recovering. The cart paths definitely need a facelift but nonetheless an enjoyable round as the fairways and greens are in pretty good shape.
