Great layout. Great food and drinks. Play again
Only one thing was off. The bunkers have deteriorated from rains and lost sand.
Bad Experience
Pace of play was almost 3 hours per nine with no marshal in sight. Group two holes ahead of us was over two holes behind on the front nine alone. And, yes, we were a foursome. We had no recourse
Nice course - surprising challenges
The course was laid out nicely and the GPS on the carts helped as it was my first time playing Otter Creek. I found the course to be challenging in a couple of areas. 1) Length. I'm usually teeing off and then hitting from 160 or less on the approach shot. At Otter Creek, I was usually hitting 180 - 200 yard approach shots. That was surprising and presented a challenge. 2) Some fairways were narrow and missing the fairway was extra tough on some holes because the rough was super tall. 3) It had rained a ton and the bunkers either had water in them or the sand was very wet. I wasn't a fan of the bunkers where I usually don't mind hitting from a bunker.
Pleasantly surprised
This is an above average layout with above average course conditions. I will come back again.
Under appreciated hidden gem
This golf course is great. One of my favorites to go to in the Des Moines, Ankeny, Ames area. The course layout is a great test for beginners as well as good experienced golfers. The greens are exceptional. Pace of play is extremely good, especially on busy days. Great course that is in great condition. Would highly recommend
Good track
Fun. Wet. Good condition.
Bag drop situation is less than favorable.
Greens on a chinese checker board
The greens are like trying to putt on a chinese checker board. Due to the high number of outings or ignorant golfers, very few players appear to know how to fix a ball mark. If it isn’t an unrepaired ball mark, it is a pile of goose crap in your putting line. Staff needs to educate players on the need to repair ball marks.
Well ran muni
Combo links style with some water. Windy time of year which makes it difficult.
Nice course
Course is in good condition and fun to play. Carts are really nice with built in GPS monitors. Only suggestion I have is placement of bathroom facilities on the course. Maybe a porta potty every 3 holes?
