Difficult course
The new club house is very nice, the course looks nice but the fairways are very narrow and thick woods everywhere. For a beginner like myself who doesn't hit the fairway from every tee it was a frustrating course.
Decent course. Overpriced for me though. Wouldn't pay more than $20-25 to play it again.
good not great.
the club house is under construction and the course looks a little beat up. the fairways were yellow and looked dead but easy to hit. once the club house is complete this will be a course favorite of mine in the Cincinnati area. fun and challenging course with more hills than bunkers. really have a tough time seeing the pin from the fairway with all the hills. pretty forgiving layout and a lot of fun for a scramble or group play challenging for by yourself.
New clubhouse coming
Only reason for average review on amenities is that they are using a temporary shelter until their new clubhouse is complete and it should be a great complex.
Thank you for your review and your business. We are as excited as you are about the new clubhouse. We truly appreciate all of the guests having patience during our construction period. We know that is is not ideal but we have the greatest golf guests in the area. We are hoping to be in the new clubhouse some time in May. We will post updates on our facebook page. It is going to be a great year here at Devou, again thanks for the business and the nice review!
Slow play
Greens condition are best in the city consistently. I was playing as a single. Two foursomes let me play through. Very nice of them. Next foursome did not let me through and it was torture with lon, long wait every hole. Their time spent on every green was ridiculous. Desperate need of a Ranger on the course. I teed off at 11:30 on a beautiful day, but due to frustration of waiting all day, I left on the 11th hole. I have never done that before. I will only play the course during the week going forward. Slow play affects all golfers I play with in a negative way.
Dead fairways
The grass in every fairway was completely dead. Greens were fine. For about a 5 hole stretch on the back nine, when you went to tee off, you were swarmed by about 2,000 gnats.
pb809111,
Thank you for playing Devou Park Golf Course. We appreciate your business and feedback. Below is some information regarding our fairway turf type. The turf is not dead, it is dormant. Our fairways have already begun to come out of dormancy. Luckily, we have been blessed with a mild winter allowing golfers to play much earlier than typical for Cincinnati. Within the next 6 weeks, our fairways will be green and lush. We hope you will return to enjoy these playing surfaces. Thank you!
Winter Dormancy
Zoysia, like deciduous trees, goes dormant after the first killing frost and will go off its green color until the ground reaches temperatures of about 50°F in the spring. This is a normal, healthy process. In fact, zoysia's ability to go "dormant" is important to its ability to better withstand extreme winter cold and still come back full and green every spring. Amazoy will not be damaged by snow and cold weather conditions. Amazoy can withstand temperatures of -30°Fahrenheit ( -30°F below zero).
Under construction
The clubhouse is under construction along with the first hole. I wish I had known this. The course was in good shape. Some great views of the area from on top of the hills. You need to take the course terrain in to play. Cart paths have been re done since last fall they are in very good shape now. Great to see money spent on a course for improvements.
Hope the work being done pays off
Nice to see the cart paths and hole #1 are being re-done. Could care less about a new club house though. Got stuck behind a slow 3-some that wouldn't let us through. Course was in pretty good condition - greens were very good, fairways good. Impossible to walk this course. Some blind shots make it difficult. Found a really good deal on golfnow but wouldn't pay more than $25 to play here. Love the views.
Tight fairways/ Temporary pro shop
The course has very tight fairways, it is fair to moderate for play. shorter par 4, easy to 220 yd drives with 160 or less for greens. but challenged with hilly lies and a few blind greens.
Also spent almost as much time in cart between tees as on course- rather erratic hole layout
great shape
course is great shape, keep up good work.
Leave your driver at home.
This course in insane. Between the up and down and left to right roll of the fairways you are either hitting a blind shot just about every time or a shot that will not stop rolling until it's off the fairway. It makes play very unenjoyable. Course was in very good condition with good views of the river and downtown Cincinnati but I won't be back.
Cold golf beats no golf!
It was about 29 degrees when we teed off. Made the first few holes difficult. Overall, the course was in ok shape. Fairways dying out for the year, but greens were in excellent shape. Fun round, despite the temp.
Fun and Challenging
our foursome was pleasantly surprised by the course and conditions. Very challenging with elevations changes on every hole. The greens were pristine and rolled true. We appreciated the course book supplied by the friendly staff. Give Devou Park a try if you want a unique golf experience.
Target golf at its best
At 6200 from the tips most golfers can leave their driver at home. The zoysia fairways are a luxury to play from and the greens were in great shape. The rolling hills of northern Ky. provide an excellent setting with a couple of spectacular views of downtown Cincinnatti. The holes are shoehorned into a confined space and if play is heavy (which it wasn't on our round) dodging incoming could be a concern. The hilly terrain and the distances from green to tee make this an arduous walk. Success here is a result of accuracy not length.
Devou rookie
Staff was excellent, very knowledgeable and friendly. The course is by far one of the bar maintained courses I've ever played and one of the more challenging. Tight fairways, forced carries and plenty of shots that will test your skills. Very hilly, so be prepared to do the math to figure out your best club to attack. A must play.
Great Course, nice views, and fun time
I played early on a Sunday morning with my father. Neither had played the course before. It was a nice surprise from what we expected in Northern Kentucky. It was a fun course, with picturesque views and shots throughout the course. Tons of elevation changes, but still vary playable. It is not a super difficult course, as long as you keep it in play, which requires most players to play to landing areas rather than just blast the driver every hole.
Views of downtown, the Ohio River, and Ohio, plus scenic views of the course made it a great experience.
My only complaints would be its been its not easily walk-able and its a little short, but with the tightness of the course shorter length makes it more playable.
always fun at devou
The staff is friendly and the course is always in tip top shape. A little bit pricey but still worth it
Thank you for your review!
We hope to see you many more times in 2017!
