Great course if the fairways were in better condition!

The fairways weren’t as bad as the greens at Mitchells, but they weren’t far behind.

Fairways should not be as bad as the roughs.

Tee boxes were chewed up. Fairways had dormant/dead grass. Greens were cushiony like a new thick rug. Also aerated but it is what it is. Some sections of cart path are very steep and not in great condition. Needs some love and could be a decent track.

When you spend $40+ a round least you expect is a fairway. Fairways at this course were non existent. The course going up to it and the clubhouse makes it look really lush but it is in fact not well kept and not very well maintained. Course markers and stakes were very irregular, greens very okay - some good and then some had sand patches in them. Bunkers were rocks - scuffed my sand wedge on a rock that was hidden underneath raked sand. Fairways were patchy and just hard ground - basically felt like hitting your ball out of a divot mark almost every time.

I will say about 50/60 yards around the green the course was much more bang for buck.

Additionally there was a concern with the cart paths and golf carts. Paths are steep so be careful if you do go as the brakes on the carts don’t work very well and you will slide around on the loose gravel.

All in all terrible experience and don’t think I’d ever go back.

The course is not always in the best condition overall but provides unique and fun challenges. Many dangers to losing your golf balls, but an overall good experience.

Course conditions are improving but come with an open mind. Tough track and every hole unique. Staff always wonderful.

This course would be quite the workout to walk as every hole has large uphills, downhills, or both. It is very nice and scenic. Some holes are also rather challenging like a 500+ yard par 5 they have with extremely skinny fairways with woods on both sides, it’s a nice challenge but can cost you a few balls.

I'M REALLY LOOKING FORWARD TO NEXT SPRING, AS A LOT OF THE STAFF'S HARD WORK WILL PAY DIVIDENDS. GREAT PEOPLE, TOUGH LAYOUT, TERRIFIC GREENS. SOME ROUGH AREAS AND CART PATHS ARE IN NEED OF WORK BUT LOOK BEYOND THAT AND YOU WILL ENJOY YOUR ROUND. TYPICAL HILLS DESIGN WITH EVERY HOLE DIFFERENT, AND MOST OF THEM ARE CHALLENGING!

River Downs is a challenging course. Young lady at desk was friendly when checking us in. Great deal with Hot Deal!! Golf carts actually have power!!! Course fun challenging and frustrating ( lost couple golf balls). Would recommend to others. Thanks!!!

Their hard work is paying off. Greens are really good and bare areas are starting to fill in. should be really playable next Spring.

Had a great visit. Beautiful course with some amazing scenery. Only issue was while there weren’t many vehicles in the parking lot, I believe there was approximately eight golfers on one single hole. Waited quite a lot the entire round. A sign we read said pace of play was less than three hours, but we were held up for nearly four. I was in no hurry and it wasn’t a problem for me but it was my only complaint. I had a tee time, but I was waiting on the very first tee box. Great course. Loved the layout and it was the best greens I have seen this year. Very commendable for being October. I live in Tennessee, but I’m in Maryland nearly every year I would love to visit again.

There are so many things wrong with the course. It does not appear the owner is putting any money into maintenance. For it being the 2nd weekend in October, thought the course would be in much better shape. Every tee box we hit off of had a type of grass that is not meant for tee boxes and it was not cut short enough. It did not appear that the tees had been moved in many weeks so there were not many places to tee off between the tee markers. There were a lot of bare spots in the fairways. There is not much the course can do about inconsiderate players who do not fix divots or ball markers, but feel the course should have signs up and make an attempt to fix some of those bad spots. Our cart had a big problem w/ back firing. The cart paths are a mess and need to be addressed. I could go on, but you get the picture.

The dedicated staff continues to make every effort to improve the overall conditions of this truly unique layout. There are some thin areas but the greens are wonderful. We look forward to plenty of play at RD in the Spring!
