Never Played Before...and Won't Again
I have played all the Montgomery County courses and they are always in great shape and provide some good quality golf. I had never played Laytonsville, so our foursome decided to try it on a Saturday morning. It is very short...forward tees a little over 4200 yards and the tips a little over 6300 yards. It was an extremely hot day and was surprised there wasn't more shade on the course in the way of trees you could sit under. And, we waited every hole, every shot! As for the course, the rough was pretty long, and although the fairways were cut, it was sometimes a challenge to determine the fairways from the rough--maybe it was the way they were cut, but from the tee box it was tough to differentiate. Fairways were narrow and in decent shape, and the bunkers appeared to have nice sand in them. I thought the layout was pretty boring overall--but with the layout and length, this would be a good starter course for new players. It's definitely not up to par with the other Montgomery County courses. At least I played it once, but won't book it again.
Practice Course
Astonishing that anyone would call this course anything more than a practice course. It is short, greens are completely flat., and there is not a lot of hazards. If you can hit a 200 yard shot straight enough, than you are going to have short irons/wedges into every green. If I don't shoot in the mid 70's here, I am not playing well. It is stupidly easy. The price they charge is outrageous for the level of golf you get at this place. I live 7 miles away and I try to avoid this place because of how boring the golf course is and how much they charge. I could play this course with 3 or 4 clubs(including putter) and break 80 no problem. Waste of time.
Great Day
Great Day to Play...everyone had the same idea, but the pace was surprisingly fast.
Fun course for intermediate golfers.
Good course to play as condidence builder. Not much difficulty. Greens and fairways in grat shape

Thank You for your positive words!

Beautiful Course
I played Laytonsville during the early afternoon and finished my round in less than 3 hours. This a beautiful course and the greens were in great condition. I'd definitely play this course again.
I Like the greens and there challenge
Course was in good shape. I particularly like the openness of the course.
Great course for the money
I have played this course 5 times of 6 times now. It is a great source for the money. Course is mostly well kept. Staff is fantastic. Wait time is mostly acceptable on most days. I will continue to play this course this year as long as the price is right
slow play
this course is in pretty good shape but the pace of play is way too slow. 6 hour round is not acceptable!
Underrated course, great value!
I've been playing this course with my buddy for the last 2 or 3 years, almost weekly. It's a bit of a hidden gem. In fact, several of the Montgomery County courses are hidden gems. Most people prefer Hampshire Greens and Northwest, but I prefer Laytonsville, Poolesville, and Little Bennett. This course has some relatively easy holes, especially #1, #8, #14, and #17. But it has a good variety of different looks and elevations, shot-making holes, long and short holes, easy and challenging holes. The only awkward ("squirrelly" hole) is #7, which is an L-shaped tee shot across water. The back nine is fairly tough, especially #10, #11, #15, and #18, all of which are long-ish and more difficult than average (for the average golfer). The staff is always friendly and helpful and efficient. The driving range is so-so, and the food is so-so, but the pro shop staff is great, the starters are great, and the course conditions are always great, considering the amount of play they get and the lower greens fees (especially if you get the Mont Co card). All in all, this is a very underrated course, and the greens keeper does a great job.
Favorite MCG Course
Love this course with generous fairways and usually easy and true greens. Nice course to get your game back on track as it can be a confidence booster with many scoring opportunities out there. Can be long rounds on prime times during the weekends, but the course is almost always one of the better maintained of the MCG courses. Check it out.
Great cource for the value.
Excellent staff, great facility, good condition of the cource, putting green quiet fast, so get use to speed.will play again.
Too Expensive
Average golf course... I enjoy playing here but they (and all Montgomery County Courses) are getting too expensive for quality. Have to play late in the day for a decent price.
Frost delay + late start = only 13 holes and no raincheck
Can't complain too much about a Friday round after Christmas Day in high 40's, but GolfNow should have arrangements with course to provide rainchecks for players who get out later than scheduled tee time and don't finish 18. Could've scheduled later time directly with course for little later time at less expensive rate. Sorry, just a cheap Scottsman!
Nice variety, no two holes alike.
The course was in nice condition. For mid Decmber the greens were quite good. Be careful of downhill putts, they can be a quicker than expected. A mix of short and longer holes. Not much trouble, water in play on just 1 hole. Maybe half of the sand traps are now grass bunkers. Very nice and accommodating staff. I plan on returning.
In good condition
Course was in good shape & appeared to be well-maintained particularly for this time of year. Fairways & rough had been cut, greens were mostly smooth and bunkers were in good condition with plenty of sand.
This is a pretty forgiving course with wide fairways & large greens. Some of the greens have a severe slope which can make them difficult in the summer when you're above the hole but otherwise it's pretty fair with very few blind or deceptive shots.
The Grill is closed during the winter months.
Good friendly course
Friendly course with nice views. Nice relaxing escape. Wish they had a range officer helping with the pace of play.
Confident you will enjoy
This course is a confidence builder. White Tees play short so move back if in doubt. Condition, price, pace of play, staff all above average. Overall a nice experience and value.
Nice course
Wide open. Very little trouble. Course was in great condition. Staff was super nice!
I am playing this course on Sunday. I'm thankful that this course sounds "stupidly easy". I have not swung a club since last September!
