Furnacebrook great nine hole course
Furnacebrook great nine hole coursethis course is in great shape the people are very nice once you know the whole layout it is a very challenging track would recommend this to any golfer of average to above average level
Great value
Course is in great shape. Very hilly and not very long, so bring your wedge game. Played mid week in 3.5 hours . Restaurant was not open, but pro shop had drinks and snacks. Great value - $29 for 18 holes with cart.
Nice spring course
9 hole course. Played whites then blues. Good shape this time of year. Nice pace. Great value
great 9 hole course
greens, fairways and tee boxes always in great shape.
challenging because of the hilly nature of the course.
Fantastic greens
Played yesterday 05/20/17. This is a 9 hole course , not long and located on the hills. From practice facilities: putting green next to the small club house. Approximately 15 minutes drive from the center of Boston. Parking slots available.
Quite a lot of blind areas. Well laid fairways and excellent high-speed and difficult greens. A bit cramped and guys, do something with the tracks for the carts, pit must be sealed. In general, all is fine, stuff is friendl and helpful, have hgp 10 and round on this course was interesting to play for me.
Course is in great shape, once I found it.
Google maps has the address of the course wrong, and one 'road' on the map is barely a dirt path. But I did find the course eventually.
With the drought this summer, it's hard to keep a course looking this good. The fairways were all nice and green, and the tee boxes and greens were great. Sure, there were a few bare spots, but that's fall golf.
A couple of slow groups, but otherwise pace was good. One group was apologetic, "We just wanted to get up the hill to the bar, sorry for being slow."
Guy in the pro shop was great. Answered all my first-timer questions. One rude guy on a mower. Drove my cart to the side of a fairway, and the employee drove his mower over and yelled "THAT CART DOESN'T BELONG THERE." Even though there wasn't any "NO CARTS" signs. He drove over to another group right after and scolded them as well. Dude must have been having a bad day.
Great little course though. I'll definitely be back.
Well kept course, employees are rude tho
Great course! Well maintained. Greens and tee boxes are the best I've played this year. Fairways are green. The only problem was the employees weren't helpful but instead incredibly rude. Especially the grounds crew.
Tricky greens
Not a very long course but the difficulty came through several blind shots and sharp breaking greens. The greens played very soft from the fairway, but putting they rolled rather quickly. Overall a great course and I will be sure to play there again.
Short but fun
This is not the longest course in Boston. If you hit driver on any of the par 4s, you're looking at a wedge into the green. The greens themselves we're in very good condition, providing a lot of slopes and decent speed. Being only a 9 hole course with only one par 3, at almost 210 yards from the blues, and no par 5s it still was a fun round of golf. Would play again.
Good for a quick 9
Course in very good shape. Fairways very good and rough not to bad. Greens could be a little faster. Tee boxes okay. Staff friendly. Cart a little run down. Could use some tic.
Layout typical for the area, lot of blind shots into green.
In a lot better shape than las year.
Not very interesting
Course is just not very interesting. Most holes are straight with no water but a few traps. A lot of blind tee shots which doesn't help the first time you play.
Still much better than Leo J.
Good Test of Golf
A lot of elevation changes and course knowledge is key. 1st nine will be difficult your first time playing. Rough is thick and difficult. Its like playing a us open. Fun to test all aspects of your game. Bunkers are not good, but all of mass seems to not know where to find sand.
Great to play twice for an 18.
A moderately challenging course, there's enough going on for a fun replay for 18. Lots of blind shots, elevation change, and interesting lies to keep it fresh. Because of the lack of length, be prepared to set up your second shot strategically (i.e. don't always use the driver) but it's still a challenge to walk because of the rolling hills. I was out of gas by hole 6 on the replay - out of the ordinary for me, but it was 91F outside!
Tee boxes and fairways were comparably cut, as in the fairways were a bit hairy - maybe a result of alternating rain and sun over the last week. Greens weren't too challenging in their shape and pretty slow (also probably weather-related). bunkers were in great shape. The rough was THICK - punishable by at least an extra club on your next shot - and hole edges contained lots of uncut fescue to get you in trouble.
Pace: I played as a single before a Quincy Rec group (30+ kids) so I can't get a good idea of what a regular pace of play would be.
I'd certainly go back and play again.
Beautiful Course
When I played here, I was scheduled for 18 holes. The staff somehow thought I was only doing 9 though. I cleared it up with them and they were very kind about the situation.
Great time
Had a great day with my brother exa lilt time on the course
Furnace Brooke
Hilly course that makes yardage tough to determine. Challenging for a 9 hole course. Very interesting sign on the 7th tee that does not allow hole to be played "during school hours" a school is located adjacent to the hole, rather than installing netting, the hole is unplayable... Interesting for a 9 hole course , you can only play 8. Staff has been rude past three experiences. With granite links and presidents within walking distance, you would think the staff would be more accommodating. The starter on this occasion acted and spoke as if we were about to T off at agusta national. Very unprofessional to not just our group, but the groups preceding us. Tough first hole that is a blind shot, drivable for some, and no way of verifying if the group in front has finished. Very dangerous. The starter insisted on us teeing off, and we ended up hitting into the group in front of us. Only a matter of time before an injury. Perhaps the stater should get off of his chair and relocate to the crest of the hill, to ensure safety. Or perhaps a bell, like 1000 other courses. Over all, not a bad course, but the staff made it an overall poor experience.
Hilly, short well kept golf course
Nice little course, well kept, but if you are just a foot or two off the fairway you can lose your ball because the grass is too thick and high especially when you have a tee shot where you can't see the whole fairway because of all the hills, but I would play it again, and the price was great
Great course.. Awful groundskeeper
Let me start this review by saying this course is excellent, especially for the money. It is very hilly and the rough is long.
The pro shop staff is very friendly and helpful, but where I am very upset about is the groundskeeper.
On both occasions this big angry looking guy in overalls was absolutely awful. Shaking his head and giving filthy looks to me and my foursome because we parked the carts to close to where he was mowin.
My friend was in the wrong and drove on the course where it said no carts. He had driven by the sign and made an honest mistake. Big overall guy came steaming over swearing and calling him an idiot. Absolutely no need for this, while my friend obviously should not of been on the green, the angry overal man had no reason to act that way.
On another occasion the same guy was mowing the practice tees. My shot was about an inch over the tree line when he mowed over my ball and told me to move it since it was out of bounds and in his way. What the heck kind of friendly staff is this?

Shane,
Try it again, that individual is no longer around. Course is worth another try.

I really hate to hear about club employees leaving a bad impression on the paying public. Honey over vinegar every time. I know the atitude you are talking about. It stays with you, and you pass it on to others, all because of one person with no social, people or golf etiquette skills.
