Looking Good!
Ponkapoag is a State run Golf Facility;
However the site is being kept up clean and neat.
My only pet peeve is that some of the holes are on
Real grass-which makes it difficult to get your ball
In the cup/hole.😳
What happened to the greens?
First off, the staff is efficient and helpful.
The beer is cold in the snack bar.
The teeing areas have a little grass and the fairways and rough has improved.
The greens are in terrible shape. They are worse than the fairways especially Course 1. Course 1 has four temporary greens. This is a travesty. 6 weeks ago the greens had grass and then they scalped/cut very short every green and the greens browned out and were ruined.
Greens are not puttable now.
Course 2 has 3 temporary greens. Some greens due have grass.
Bunkers are improving too.
It still is golf and try to avoid the five somes.
Home is free
Worst golf course in the state. Greens are dead, sandy or not even there. No warning on holes that have “greens under repair” and they don’t even attempt to mark out the “new” green. It’s literally just a flag in the middle of the fairway. No signage to let you know where you’re going, not to mention every single employee there is lazy and doesn’t do a thing to help out the course. My recommendation if you want to play this course, stay home and play in your back yard. You’ll have a better time.
Most holes do not have proper putting greens
The course is an economical way to practice your shots except putting since putting greens are either unplayable or non existent.
A good value for the money.
While it may not be a country club , I like playing Ponkapoag Golf Course. I play here a few times a year. There are actually two different 18 hole golf courses here. Both are challenging , but fun to play. A good value for your money. I really like the layout on course two. Some holes are in better shape than others . When I played some had temporary greens and rough tee boxes. Disappointed, but not discouraged. The Golf Now “hot deal” made it all worthwhile.
Nice Course with a lot of potential....
First time playing Ponkapoag. I played twilight so it was nice and quite. The price is reasonable. It is a public course with a traditional tree lined fairways. It is a good place to practice your swing and drives but not putts. The greens are 2.5/5. There is difficulty in figuring breaks and speed. The pace of play is very good and some playing singles are hitting 2 balls. There is lack of cart paths and carts are only available before 4:30pm tee time. There are plenty of parking spaces. Overall there is potential for this place to shine.
Bunkers were better than the greens
When the greens feel like fairways and are in poor condition I wouldn’t want to recommend anyone to this course unless they are trying to get some warm up swings and no putting.
Returned After 3 Years and what a regret.
I have a son who is now getting into golf. Figured I would try Ponkapaug again after 3 yrs thinking it couldn’t get any worse, unfortunately I was wrong. I feel bad that this was our first experience together on a golf course.
Cart died on the 4th hole, called every number on the website, no answers, finally after an hour got a replacement. Greens were either not present (temp greens) or we were putting through patches. I could go on and on but not worth it.
Find a different venue, not worth the time, effort.
Worst Golfing Experience EVER!
Terrible, they should sell this course to someone who would take care of it, I played in a league here 5 years ago & thought I would give it another chance, BIG MISTAKE & NEVER AGAIN until it's sold... Great layout, it really is a shame because it could be an awesome 36 holes! 1 last thing, not 1 take on the whole course... UNREAL!
You get what you pay for
Great layout , greens are in horrible condition, but price is great - beats going to the range and finished round in less than 4 hours
