So many condos.. and even more ball marks
To start - every green had dozens of unfixed ball marks - some very close to the hole. The greens are otherwise nice - they're soft and fast. It's infuriating that members and guests are not fixing their ball marks. This club seems focused on one thing - making money.
They've built approximately 20 townhouses in the entrance to the course. Two of them are so close to the 17th green that it has to be moved. I repeat - they are moving a green to accommodate condos they can sell. There are plans to build many more residences on club owned property.
The clubhouse is newly renovated and there is a great patio. I wish their members and guests knew to fix ball marks.
New name, same good course
Spring Valley, now called The Cape Club of Sharon, is a solid private course a few miles south of Boston. The course was in great shape and the greens actually help shots but were also fairly quick. The layout is interesting with several doglegs that force you to hit long irons to the corner and there is also a creek that meanders throughout the course and some lead to ponds that come into play. It's nice to play a New England course where you can hit the driver a few times without fear of spraying it into puckerbrush just off the fairways. I would highly recommend that if you can play this course with a member or in a tournament.
Good test of golf New England style
This is one of the better course I have played in Massachusetts especially those south of the city. The staff was very friendly and the course was a good test. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a course to be a member of.
