Great deal to play a nice course
Difficult holes with alot of sand surrounding greens front sides and back. Neat layout. Good condition. Greens Sept 26 2025 a little slower than some nice public courses. Great deal for $50\$40 18 holes with cart deal.
Pure Golden Age
What a time capsule. Tucked into the neighborhood perfectly where you would never know this gem existed sits the huge mid century clubhouse. A fire in 58 took the original which would only hold this place truly 115 years in time. As far as the layout, the man who created Olympia Fields knew what he was doing. Genius routing with the front being an interior loop and perimeter back nine. Short par 4s, lacy edged bunkers, blind tee shots. This historic track has just that, historic, perfectly preserved elements (with a restoration by Mike DeVries in 2018 I believe, well done Mike) strongly considering membership after one go. I’m sold.
Gorgeous Course
Couldn’t have enjoyed a nicer day. Everyone from the members, the pro shop and the halfway house were so welcoming. The course itself is a beautiful classic parkland layout and was in pristine condition. A definite must play if you’re in the area.
Cool Architecture and Great People
Flint Golf Club far exceeded my expectations. Its routing superbly navigates some gently undulating land hidden near Thread Lake. Friendly people and cool, old-school facilities made me feel like I was right at home.
It’s also home to some of the coolest green complexes I’ve had the pleasure of navigating. Each one fits its setting and has contours that make for the perfect amount of unpredictability.
I’m thankful the club knows how lucky they are to have one of the most original Willie Park Jr. layouts around. They’re working hard to restore this gem to its former glory. I’ll definitely be making a return trip (if I’m invited).
